NFL 2011 Offseason

DJ,you hoping that JJ has some Bob Lilly in him? One of my all time favourite(non Pittsburgh) players. Double digit Pro Bowls I believe and HOF of course.

When I was a kid I would relish the times I caught the NFL films segments on Saturday afternoons. Kids are spoiled theses days with the internet for football stuff. old man grumble lol.

^ Yes of course. Or Randy White who was my favorite. There have been a few other good DT for the cowboys over the years. Leon Lett was great, but Lilly and White were all time HOF special players.

Wasn’t Rany White called Manimal or Manster or somesuch?, great nickname whatever it was.

Manster half man half monster

My alltime favorite player. If his son Greg LLoyd JR get drafted by Pittsburgh he will be an instant fan favourite.

I remember this interview like it was yesterday, fuckin’ SB…they lost to, let’s see, I can’t seem to remember, do you DJ? lol.

On a tragic note, the player behind Bill Cower with the beard, Justin Strzelczyk, took his own life in a crazy police car chase years later. I think he was diagnosed with bi-polar disease. He was a big time juice head and used to impress people by doing pushups with a vending machine on his back lol.

edit\It was blamed on head trauma from playing football.

I’m still planning on the 49ers getting Luck NEXT year. I think anybody else’s hopes are completely within reason compared to that ha.

For anybody that’s near a computer when the draft roles around, we should start a new thread for it so we can comment and react to the picks. Deal?

^ Done, since the new format sucks balls at least we can get a discussion going.

New Thread or bump the Draft 2011 thread?

New thread. “2011 NFL Draft Live Discussion” or something like that. Should be a great time.

What are peoples thoughts on Tebow? I can’t believe Denver is talking about taking another QB in the first or second round when they already have Orton and Tebow.

Seems ridiculous.

New Coach he did not pick Tebow and he doesnt want a project QB. Ship his ass to Seattle for draft picks.

This really could be the most fucked up draft of all time. I think the owners/GMs may go in picking who they want instead of worrying about the slotting from the past. They cant sign contracts on any of these guys until the CBA is done and there will be a rookie salary cap.

hahahaha ill give you your hope but there is zero chance he falls past my team! my guy mike tice loves him which is enough for me. if tice said he liked a guy predicted to go in the 5th and took him in the 1st i wouldnt be mad in the least bit because tice is the man.

in for the draft talk as long as im home. we should see if they would open up a live spill for us during the draft so that we can be up to date instead of lagging with posts…

i think its ridiculous too. i understand new coaches dont want a “project” but thats all youre getting with a qb in this draft too. upgrade your team and let tebow and orton get a year in. i think one of them will succeed if not then take one next year but dont waste anything in the first three rounds on a qb this year.

^ I think it is all dependent on the team and the situation. You could draft or groom a project QB if you know your team is a multi year project. Take the Broncos, they were dismantled after Shanny left. Only quality player on that team is Dumervil and maybe Moreno. Total overhaul so Foxy has a few years to grow the team and the owner has shown patience in the past to stick with a coach.

Teams like the Vikings no way does Frazier have time to groom a QB project. He needs a more experienced QB or a Franchize QB that is not in this draft. That team is a QB away from going back to playoffs.

I’m probably bias, but I think it’s really dumb for the Broncos to be looking for another QB. How can they possibly know if Tebow is a project or not, when he’s only played what, 3-4 games with a dilapidated, completely dominated Broncos team?

Plus, Kyle Orton can effectively manage a game, as much as I hate to say it. He will never be a 4000 / 30 / 10 kind of quarterback, but that team has issues upon issues that extend far beyond the quarterback position. As long as they have a certain amount of money invested, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t give the young buck a shot, seriously.

But most experts on QB’s have said he will not be a franchize QB anyway. It has only been a year, not setting back much by shipping him off and drafting a new one.

Hey now, prefaced my entire response by saying I’m bias, haha. TT is, without doubt, my favorite college football player of all time, too.

But really, ship him off to Seattle - I’m fine with that. I think Seattle has a good, solid base of athletes to work with and will probably only be getting better in the next few years. The thing that sucks, though, is that theoretically the 49ers and Rams are looking to be getting better as well.

I don’t know. I know that there’s scouts who get paid to over-analyze people’s throwing form, accuracy, yadda yadda. What if Bellicheck would have shipped off Tom Brady after his rookie season, because he really didn’t have much time invested in him, so no big deal?

I’m just saying - Tim Tebow was one of the most successful and winning-est players to ever play the game - in the hardest college conference there is. (Sorry, truth be told.) He has a high work ethic and drive (which earlier, many of you were saying is going to credit Mark Ingram in the long run - this doesn’t apply for QBs either?) and he certainly seems to have that “get it done” factor.

I watched Ryan Mallet play, and the dude has fundamentals for days. Hell, on paper, so did Alex Smith. But they didn’t have “it.”

How can you ever know someone’s worth if you just throw them under the bus because of what some 40-year old “expert” opinion is, instead of seeing for yourself?

***For the record, as I’ve said before, I’m a large proponent of the theory that QBs can either get it done or can’t. Give Tebow 8 games, at least. If he sucks, then yeah, ship him down the line.

This, to me, would be like the Panthers drafting Cam Newton, having Matt Moore starting all season until the last 3 games, and then hiring a new coach, and talking about how unsuccessful Cam Newton was in the NFL, and a bust. Ummmm… wat?

Dammit, I really didn’t mean for WALL OF TEXT, sorry guys.

No worries about wall of text great discussion. I still feel like the College game is not comparable to the NFL. How many greats from the college game didnt even make a roster spot in the NFL. How many no names came to life in the NFL. It is more rare for a great college QB to be a great NFL QB. Not average but Great. Is Tebow worth the work with the true documented can be seen by a arm chair QB like me that he has a long fucked up delivery? Would you sacrifice a season to develop him to be an equivalent of Orton? Vince Young was great in College, has a winning record in the NFL, is he worth the work?
