II@KSman - stress reactions indicate adrenal fatigue or low thyroid? You mentioned possible thyroid issues before.

Going to see what else I can provide from stickies:

Waist size - 34
Workout regiment - typically workout 3 on 1 off. Combination of cardio - running, sprints, etc and cross fit inspired workouts but usually involving body weight and non Olympic exercises. Lots of push-ups, pull-ups, etc.
since surgery, because of pain and discomfort, my workouts haven’t been as consistent or strenuous.
carry fat mainly in abs/hips - pretty lean overall
heath conditions - heartburn issues led to discovery of candida overgrowth in esphogaus in 2009. Besides that, no chronic health issues really. Two separate rounds of IV ABx in 2008 and 2009 for cuts on hand that let to blood poisoning. Never taken propecia.
medications took anti fungals - fluconazole and dystatin during that time. Besides that, Prilosec (2001-2007, off and on) ABx at various times
diet- 90% of time eat whole food and paleo. Smoothie or eggs/bacon in AM, salad for lunch or leftovers, meat/protein and veggies for dinner, occasional gluten free pasta or rice/quinoa stir fry dish
testes ache/fever just since the V surgery. Fever just the one time I went to ER about 5 weeks ago and had epididmoorchitis. Doxy for 30 days.
Morning wood and nocturnal elections are few and far between. Been completely different since the surgery. Much less frequent and no where near as firm/hard

@KSman hope this info helps you and again appreciate everything from you.

I will add this info to the top of my thread as well.

Temps this AM

97.2 arm, 97.6 oral

Temperatures look good. Measure at mid afternoon and see if you hit 98.6 consistently. Waking temperatures seem to vary for some reason, mid day temps are more accurate to see thyroid function. Body normally is coldest early in the morning, now that coldest can vary. There’s nothing ambiguous about normal temps midday.

12:30 temp is 97.7. Probably not a good sign?

I have seen a pattern with guys who metabolically compromised who plow through training with shear will power when most others would be slowing done. Your T and thyroid are not good and you are probably driving on adrenaline and cortosol … until your adrenals poop out - which may be going on now. So this training is a lot of stress, making things worse. If this is true, fT3 may be low, or fT3 good with rT3 blocking, leading to low body temperatures and other symptoms.

See references in the sticky to:
adrenals
DHEA, DHEA-S
rT3
Wilson’s book
fatigue

Get measure around 3pm, could be different depending on waking up times. I wouldn’t worry too much about thyroid if you reach 98.6 mid day, whatever time that maybe.

Just did oral temp again - 97.6 at 4:30.

@KSman do you recommend I pull back on my training? Or just try to really listen to my body?

Joint pain suggested Lyme as a possibility.

training through low thyroid function

Antifungals can impede E2 clearance leading to lower T values.

There are a lot of factors that probably have been wearing you down and the V surgery and complications have have simply been the tipping point. Suggest that you read Wilson’s book on adrenal fatigue and see if you find that some of it seems to be talking about you.

@KSman

Thanks so much for all your help. I agree that I may have had some underlying issues that I’ve kept at bay by living healthy and eating Paleo. Doesn’t mean that I didn’t have imbalances and underperforming areas. Think the V tipped me in a number of ways.

Will have all of my other labs Sometime this week so I will update them for you guys once I receive.

I was tested for lymes a month ago which came back negative. Blood test.

When you read about Lyme, you see how the diagnostics are often in doubt. So a negative does not inspire me deeply.

Any other ways to test? I’ve never had bullseye rash or anything that I’ve noticed indicating lymes.

Hey @KSman

Wanted to update my additional lab work and info with you.

So antibodies came back negative for AI, Thyroglobulin, and Thyroid Peroxidase.

RT3 came in at 20, range 8-25

Basal temp 5-day average in AM was 97.3.

Ferritin 153, 20-345
B12 1114, 200-1100
Mag 5.0, 4-6.4
Cortisol 15.5
DHEA-S 224, 106-464 (been supplementing 25mg per day)
Vit D 58, 30-100
Heavy metals came back negative

My Dr wants to put me on Armour based on basal temp, other symptoms and no reflexes.

I’d rather start supplementing with iodine first to see how I respond.

Let me know thoughts.

I can see why doc wants you on Armour thyroid. But rT3 worries me.

As you increase T4, T4–>rT3 may increase and perhaps lower T4 was masking a rT3 problem driven by stress or adrenal fatigue. Watch your body temperatures. If Armour does not increase temperatures, even with higher dosing, you might have that problem. Then you would want to do T3 only medication.

Thanks @KSman

I’ve been doing the iodine protocol for the past 5-6 days.

I’m slowly building up and currently at 15mg. Every two days or so i’ve been trying to raise my dosage.

Overall, i’ve been feeling better. Feel like my cold hands and feet have improved. Temperature hit 98.6 this afternoon actually. Still low in the AM though.

Today, haven’t felt as good as I had the last few days though. Somewhat cloudy head and dizzy feeling today. But, i’ve definitely had more good days than bad on it.

I’m taking magnesium, selenium, real salt, vitamin D, B-Complex 100, and Vitamin C.

I have NOT started taking the Armour. Would rather see how I do with the iodine protocol by itself.

Thoughts?

@KSman

Strange. Woke up this AM, after only 3 hours of sleep, with super low temps. Like 96.4- lowest they’ve been in AM.

This, after a couple of checks yesterday and temps consistently being in 98.2-98.6 range in afternoon and evening.

@KSman

Hey man, struggling a bit here and hoping to hear back from you.

I took 20mg today of Lugols and i’m starting to notice some scary symptoms. Have soreness on side of throat, around thyroid area. Feel tight/swollen though not noticeable by sight.

Also, temp was 97.8 this afternoon after being very low this AM. But, getting hot flashes/sweaty feelings as well. Also, getting dizzy spells or difficulty focusing…which was a symptom of mine before. Seems to come and go over last few months since haven’t been feeling well.

Are these normal side effects of iodine protocol?

That low body temp could be there if you had been mouth breathing.

Are you still taking selenium with iodine?

Your symptoms could be describing coming down with a cold. But with your issues over the last few months … the waters are muddy. Sorry, no easy answer.

Hey @KSman

IR was brought to my attention by you and the stickies. Certainly done my reading on it, but wouldn’t have known about this protocol if you didn’t mention. Would love for to you offer a little more.

Throat tightness? Have you seen this before? Hot Flashes?

Yes, taking all co-factors, including selenium 200mg. Trying to go in steam room once a day as well.

Do you think I should continue bumping iodine up? I felt really good for the first few days on it on lower dosages. I’m taking some adrenal fatigue medicine as well from my Dr.

I just want to know how best to proceed with this…feel like i’m on an island here.

@KSman Would love some feedback here man.

Woke up last night after falling asleep 30 minutes prior - heart pounding, sweating, jitters, nervousness, etc.

Yesterday took 20mg lugols…all the supplements recommended. Was still feeling soreness in throat so continued to detox with Redmond’s real salt throughout the day.

Not sure what is going on here. Decided not to take iodine today. I’m tired - didn’t fall back to sleep til after 3am. Scared more than anything man.

Only other thing that could play into equation is Dr. has put me on Adrenotone - http://www.amazon.com/Designs-Health-Adrenotone-180-Caps/dp/B004NK8FUK?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

I took it last night, around 9:30, about an hour before bed. I hadn’t noticed that it gave me any side effects, but could that have contributed to what happened last night?

Temparature has been jumpy. 96.4 yesterday AM and got up to 98.6 throughout the day. 98.2 at 7am today, 97 around 10am and 98.8 at 12pm.

Anyone other than @ksman, would love to hear your thoughts too.

Thanks
