I think Maynard did that with APC on their last album and it sucked…

I really wish entertainers would leave politics to the politicians.

if the media is hijacked and no one expresses an opposing opinion (the JOB of media is to QUESTION, not cuddle up to the power) then america has fallen.

“step away from the window, go back to sleep”

tool isnt all about politics rather, the power that come from opening your eyes, in politics, or religion.

thank god for an opposing view point.

being able to see both sides of a story is a marker of intelligence.

just got it, I likeit, athough I must preface this statement with three comments:

I am drunk

I am in college

I love metal (although until recently I hated tool, the videos gave me nightmares back when I first discovered tool/mtv)

I haven’t tried IRC that much for files, but I like Bittorrent:
get Azerus
and then go to isohunt for the files.
Quick and easy. The only problem with bittorrent is that it is slower on 1 or 2 month old files.
(I won’t give the links for the sites here for semi-obvious reasons, and there really eazy to find in a web search)

Just bought the album and listened to it from start to finish. I havent formed an opinion yet. I can say that it is a pretty weird album, even for Tool. What does everyone else think so far?

There are far too many wasted tracks. Is the best they can do after seven years? Some songs are pretty good, but i wasn’t that impressed. 6.5/10

For the record, i am a huge tool fan. I am not trying to sound cynical.

I picked it up today and just finished listening to it.I loved it ,i’ve actually been killing lateralis lately and the new album is a definate change of direction i find.I dunno,i’m sure some people are gonna hate it but i like “weird” albums, maynards vocals are a little more “open” and free flowing on the new album.

I picked it up at lunch and haven’t formed much of an opinion yet because I keep listening to certain songs (The Pot) over and over.

You can pick it up at circuit city for only 10 bucks, and the cover art is worth at least that much. The trick is to focus on infinity.

It takes some getting used to, as it’s certainly not a rehash of their old work. Be sure to read the lyrics and reserve judgement until after you’ve listened to it a few times. The subtle nuances are everywhere.

Personally, I think it’s fucking incredible.

Agreed. I know to never know what to expect from them, so I tried to be as open-minded as possible for my first listen today. I’ve really only listened to the first 4 songs, and I enjoyed them the first time I heard them and they keep getting better.

I simply can’t listen to the whole album right off the bat. I don’t think I have the capacity to do that.

Usually when I hear people say they buy an album for the cover art I think they’re being absurd, but the box this album comes in is like nothing I’ve ever seen. A souvenir if you will.

It is a pair of stereoscopic lenses and a pair of almost identical looking prints that let you form the two images in front of you into one 3-dimensional image. You kind of have to cross your eyes just the right way to see it right, but try to superimpose the two images on top of one another. You’ll know when you get it right.

There’s some Alex Grey work and some other indescribable images that are very striking. Downloading this one is nowhere near the whole experience. It is a work of art in more ways than one. Is anyone planning to see them on this tour? If they’re anywhere near Florida I’m there. No date set yet, though.

I’ve got it cranked right now and I’m sitting here doing work reports and I have to agree that this is fucking incredible! This along with the new Hank III album are by far the best albums I have heard in quite some time.
Fucking Hell Yeah!!

Ok I absolutely cannot stop listening to #5 “The Pot.” I’ve listened to the entire cd and loved every minute of it. I give the entire album a 10/10, and I give song #5 “The Pot” an 11/10. Phenomenol.

I’ve listened to it about twenty times now. I have to say it’s pretty sweet. The bass and drums are incredible. I agree that there are alot of wasted tracks.

8/10

My Review of the album:

The album is AWESOME, and 10,000 days the song (track #4 aka wings pt 2) may just be my favorite tool song EVER. My top 3 songs on this album as of now are:

  1. 10,000 days ( #4) - this song is simply beautiful… musically and lyrically
  2. Right in Two (#10)
  3. Vicarious (#1)

Overall the album has a few worthless tracks(common in regular bands but unheard of in Tool history), and I wouldnt say that it is up to Aenima or Lateralus par, but it is still excellent.

If you guys wanna look at the lyrics you can google them or go here:

I still stand by my original review

holy shit, insanity. easily my favorite song thusfar. even though im a fanboy for a decade plus, im not gonna ride tip and call this album a masterpiece, cause imo, it isn’t. the first 5 tracks, as well as right in two, are really the meat of the album. thats 6 out of 11. there is nothing redeeming in the other 5 other than maybe a slight nod to intension, even though thats 7 minutes worth of, well, not so much…

regardless, im upset that i wasnt able to get tickets to their ny show, even after all morning with 2 phone lines and constant refreshing of the venues web page. im sure 10k days live wouldve been worth the price of admission alone…[/quote]

That’s my initial impression so far. Vicarious si very good, 10,000 days is out of the fng ballpark, and some songs are kinda boring. They may grow on me (the other songs are very different), but we’ll see. This will be my commuting album, so I’ll let you know in a month what I really think.

I agree - Track 5 is my favourite song on the cd.

I was sans girlfriend last night so I listened to the first 8 tracks on my good Sony studio headphones.

I think each song is great in its own way–I think only one of the first 8 comes close to being a “wasted” track, and given the depth, complexity and energy of songs like Vicarios, The Pot, etc., bitching about “wasted” tracks is fucking stupid.
