New Superman is...

Bulk?

I couldn’t find the actual panels where Lex ells him he looks sloppy and that he should try lifting weights, but see this pic here and you can see what they did.

This is a sketch of how he did it.

Pfffft! I suck in my gut like that all the time. I’m like the reverse of this! I strut around like I’m Supes all day and turn into saggy Clark when no one’s watching!

Great pics! Thanks for posting them ! Goes back to what I said about posture. Just because Clark Kent looks normal doesn’t mean that he (and therefore Superman) is built like a normal man.

You’ve got the argument that he needs to blend in to keep his identity a secret, but then you’re also dealing with a character who doesn’t wear a mask, but wears glasses instead and that is enough to fool people around him (for the most part anyway).

That’s where (wait for it) suspension of disbelief comes in.

I found my copy of All-Star Superman, here’s what Lex says to Clark:
A tall strapping, Mid-Western farmer’s boy with brains, integrity, and no style of his own? That’s a prize catch for any cynical city gal…throw in some weight training and that flabby physique of yours could even come to rival Superman’s build.

To which Clark mumbles in reply: I don’t know about that

If this happens, I will light myself on fire in public in protest. This fucking skank needs to burnout already.

The line Lex uses there is, “You write like a poet and move like a landslide”. Love that line.

The cast is shaping up for the new flick, but I can’t say I’m super-thrilled (pun intended, because I’m occasionally a dork.)

Ma Kent: Diane Lane. The science teacher where I used to teach looked just like her. Excellent.

Pa Kent: Kevin fracking Costner. I am not amused.

Lois Lane: Amy Adams. Again, I am not amused.

And above is a pic I found of Henry Cavill pulling off a Clark-ish look successfully, I think.

I did find a recent interview where Zack Snyder kinda talked about the build he wants Supes to have:
“My taste level goes to the more, I guess, muscular Superman. The bigger, more muscular Superman, the way Jim draws him. Those tend to be the artists I like in comics. So Jim’s Superman, for sure. That’s not to say that’s how the movie will be, of course, but as far as the comics. It’s an interesting thing to think about though.”

Sounds like he’s trying not to say anything definitive one way or the other, so I’m not really sure how to take that.

This thread is funny. Some people here are acting like there’s some Hollywood conspiracy keeping super muscular actors out of lead roles. That is so fucking stupid. The facts are if there was a bodybuilder who could actually act [and move, not being completely muscle bound thus unrealistic for a superhero] he’d get the part. End of discussion. There aren’t, so they cast an actor and put some muscle on him and the camera makes him look bigger than he is anyway. Also, Nick Cage keeps getting roles 'cause he’s Francis Ford Coppolla’s nephew. He is the worst actor of our generation, hands down, and as far as I know his movies tank at the box office. Anyway, probably not gonna see this 'cause chances are it’s gonna suck just like 99% of the shit that comes out nowadays.

some new pics of superman

Clearly there’s some padding, but he still looks ten fold better than Routh.

more

Do you think there is padding where his junk is? If not, good for him.

Even if Hollywood DID find a perfect bodybuilder for the part (one who is built like Phil Heath AND can act), he’d look like a bodybuilder in a regular business suit. His character’s coworkers and friends would most likely treat him the way “regular” folks treat bbers. He’d get chided for his crazy diet, get asked about steroids all the time, asked what gym he trains at, and what online forums he frequents.

lol

I don’t mind the new suit that much at all. As I said somewhere else the general population of earth has accepted the slightly ridiculous concept of Superman’s costume so there really isn’t any need to change it like that. Different materials and different hues are OK.

i thought this was interesting, seems the guys from screen-rant are speculating Zod and one of his cohorts are both wearing motion capture uniforms in these set pics, making it seem as if both of those characters will be CGI enhanced.

It seems there’s a padding everywhere in that costume…

All I know is, the guy they are claiming is Harry lennix, ain’t Harry Lennix. Michael Shannon is yet to be seen in a mo-cap outfit as well.

Did you see the preview for True Legend in the right top corner of that webpage?
