Just to show how completely messed up my music preferences are, I also listen to:
70’s and 80’s hard rock/metal (everything from Kiss to Judas Priet, Black Sabbath, etc…);
country music (new and “my wife left me and my dog ran away”);
rap (some new, though I prefer the older rap ie. Public Enemy);
Celtic Music (if you’ve never heard Christy Moore or Paul Brady, check them out);
and others I can’t think of right now.
Why limit myself?
That’s the spirit.
And I’d called those preferences “healthy” a lot more than “messed up.”
There is tons of music out there, why limit ourselves to a single sub-genre? Because it’s “hard core?” Because you’re too “cool” to enjoy pop? God fordib you’d enjoy anything on mainstream radio… your mental image of yourself would immediatly crumble to dust.
In my car, I have the following:
Metallica - Master of Puppets, …And Justice for All, Black album.
Slayer - Reign in Blood.
Anthrax - Greater of Two Evils.
Halo - OST.
Ninja Gaiden - OST.
Some compilation of classical pieces (Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc) who’s name I can’t remember.
Jonathan Painchaud - Quebec french pop singer.
Loco Locass - Quebec french rap band, heavily political.
My friends who enjoy metal see the Ninja Gaiden CD or the Jonathan Painchaud one and ask “What are you? Gay?” while coworkers who enjoy pop/rock see the Slayer or the Anthrax CD and ask “What are you? 12?” But I don’t give a damn.
I don’t listen for them, or to impress anyone. I listen to those because I enjoy them, for various reasons.

The CD isn’t as good as their other stuff; yes.
Is it good? IMO…yes.
Is death metal good? IMO…yes; some of it.
Do I want to hear some dude with a bad cold vomiting on a microphone with some sick drums and guitars in the background? No. Most of the metal I’ve heard really gets me pumped up because of the drumming and guitar(ing?) but as soon as the ‘singer’ starts in, I have to change it b/c its retarded. So much talent in these band are wasted because the singer sucks.
I do agree on the point that the ‘filler songs’ in the album need to go.
Also, while slipknot DOES have alot of “zit poping teens” as fans…I grew up on them and I’m sure (as can be seen by this thread) that alot of other non-teens really dig them still to this day.
But who am I to interject in such a thread? Continue bitchin and flaming…
So why are people bringing death metal into slipknot thread?
I do the gutterals in my tech death band so I guess I suck haha.
Let the nu metal kiddos have their thread.
I brought up death metal becuase people were comparing slipknot to random DM bands.
The point it music is highly subjective and there will always be someone out there who thinks that Band A is better then Band B.
This thread has gone wayyy off topic. The album isn’t as good as it could have been.

Exactly…I don’t even know why people bother shitting on what someone else listens to. If the consensus calls it garbage…then maybe it is,BUT music is such a personal thing…it always be.
Look at how a person is “labeled” because they listen to a certain genre of music…AND vice versa. Which brings up another thing…there are too many damn label or “sub-genres” for music these days…especially heavy metal.

Metal is slowly working itself toward the Holy Grail of sub-genre labeling: One genre per band.

I honestly didn’t know until recently that Metal had so many sub-genres. I started looking them all up and how they were defined and it was just getting ridiculous. Some of the descriptions of the sub-genres really didn’t sound all that different from one another.
I’ve never really gotten into that. Like you said in an earlier post, there’s only music I like and music I don’t like. I could give a shit about what genre or sub-genre it belongs to.
Hadn’t heard any of the new SlipKnot until just before leaving on my hunting trip two weeks ago while driving there on the Radio. I’ve never been a huge SlipKnot fan instead liking one or two songs I’ve heard and having a friend burn me on of their CD’s, I sometimes play.
Well, I heard Psycho Social and have to say that’s the kind of shit I like! Hard, aggressive, want to march through a wall, or go into battle with. Hadn’t heard a song that fired me up like that in awhile and went and bought the CD. Been listening to it driving to work the last two mornings and IMO it’s a decent CD overall better then the one my friend burned for me. Some great hard aggressive shit and a few cool mild more melodic tracks. I’m liking this.
Heard one of Metallica’s new tracks on the radio to and it sounds pretty damn good although the name escapes me now.
