New Movie Trailers and Spoilers

I really enjoy this trailer, I enjoy how it’s set up to be a more calmly unorthodox direction in kind of a Wes Anderson/Charlie Kaufman vein than the '47 adaptation was. I’m not entirely sure just yet how well I see Ben Stiller handling this in the director’s chair, but I can appreciate him in the role of Mitty.

I think if I were to make a prediction, I see this leaning positive, but that’s just on the trailer, which is very well made (especially if the movie turns out to be awful). Ben Stiller’s style suits the kind of bland luckless nerd Mitty is seen as when he puts his game face on, I can see him staying comfortable in the role. This could be a nice little semi-indie flick from Stiller if he summons his inner Tenenbaum, I will be watching this, but likely based on some pre-release reviews.

I also really enjoy that Matrix reference.

Haha, its like if Rodriguez and Tarantino were sitting around fucked up on Ouzo and Wild Turkey and Tarantino started flipping Rodriguez shit about being a pussy for not being able to “take it to the next level,” and then Rodriguez stays on like a two-month, pissed off bender, and boom, feast your eyes on “Machete Kills,”–take that Tarantino, you fuckin’ pussy!

Exactly. No way in hell I would ever pay to see this.

Skip to 0:20 in this clip from one of my favorite 80s movies. The Hidden to see Danny Trejo in his forts role ever.

I saw this movie in 1989 so it’s neat to see Danny go from this to being slightly well known.

The Venice film festival showed up recently and showcased some very interesting news for the film world, perhaps the most shocking is this feature by Studio Ghibli’s adept lead director Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki has gone on to announce his retirement and say that “Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises)” will be the last film he makes. The respect I have for Miyazaki’s work makes this a must see, and I do not doubt it will stand up boldly to his best efforts.

I teach English conversation in Japan, and a few of my students have been to see it. Those in their twenties haven’t been too impressed with it whereas those who are over 60 have nothing but praise for it.

Mmm, seems a little edgy to pull it so close to war-time and take on a controversial topic for the Japanese public. Aside from all the personal bias I wonder how this actually pans out quality-wise, for right now I’m still more or less blind to this one, maybe it’s just the fan in me hoping that Miyazaki does go out on a high.

Does it seem like the split opinions come mostly concerning the subject matter, or the meat and potatoes of it as a piece of film?

Well the Robocop trailer is out. Can’t say i’m very impressed other than the visuals look good. He just seems too human to me.

The critics are all over this movie and i’m really interested in seeing it too.

For some reason, his non-armored hand bothers me. Its like he is some kind of cyborg Michael Jackson or something.

Cannot wait for this one, I really enjoy Alfonso Cuaron’s work and I’ve heard brilliant things about this.

I think it is the subject matter. The oldies like the “natsukashi” feeling it gives them. It fills them with nostalgia and fond memories. The younger students just seemed quite “meh” about it.

Watching the Priest smoke weed, hit Bricks and jack newspapers

Apparently a teaser trailer for Godzilla got leaked sometime in the last few days, but it’s been pulled from pretty much everywhere I’ve looked. This is all I could find, which still leaves me feeling pretty good about it.

I didn’t realize it’s being directed by the guy who did Monsters, which was a low-ish budget indie film I really enjoyed. That movie really nailed the realism vibe of the believable chaos of having giant monsters/aliens in the world. If he can pull off the same thing with Godzilla, should be pretty awesome.

I know its long, it gives away story, yada yada yada…IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!
