New Guy/First Time Poster

Hey guys, just joined and all that good stuff. Been lurking threads for a few days and thought it would be worth joining since I see friendly people for the most part. I used to work out years ago, but come to find that I never did it right, so I never got the results I wanted. I never learned properly, so I just thought lifting whatever I could would give me muscle and weight. I never did lower body, and I had terrible form for everything else.

I just got some weights and such, so I started doing Starting Strength from my buddies advice along with eating how I should, and I also got my little brother out of his sedentary lifestyle a little bit. Im 5’10", 120lbs (pathetic, I know). These are my lifts at the moment. Theyre all very very low, yes, but Im going with the idea that its better to start too low than too high. Ive been on the program for about 3 weeks, and Ive gained 5lbs.

Bench - 115x3x5
OHP - 70x3x5
Squat - 105x3x5
Deadlift - 100x1x5
Powerclean - 55x5x3

I havent tested my 1RM on any of them, Im just trying to stay true to the SS program and not stray from it. Just a little bit about me, and I hope to be posting proud results and progress in time as well as getting to know you guys.

Glad to have you man hope you make some great progress. It you have any questions use the search bar up in the right corner. If you still can’t find the answer then ask it’ll help keep some of the more seasoned guys off your butt for askingvthe same questions trust me. Starting Strength is a great program so stick to it you will do good. Pick up your calories as much as possible at 5’10" 120lbs you may just blow away.

Good luck.

Good luck.[/quote]Thanks man. Im a member on a car forum, so I know all about using the search function and forgoing the screams of angered vets.

Good for you on taking the right steps to get the results you want. Just keep consistent, have a good attitude and always try and learn more. Also post videos of your lifts for a form critique if you feel its necessary, we (well most of us) are glad to help.

One piece of advice: read as much as you want, but do NOT switch to any fancy program you see in an article. Stick to starting strength until you simply can’t make any more progress - this will probably mean you can milk it until summer 2013 or longer. The three programs I would highly recommend after it are

  • Westside for Skinny Bastards to bring up weak points & make you feel more agile
  • Mass Made Simple for, ahem, even more mass
  • 57371 for long term strength gains on the big lifts

Which one you choose will depend on your priorities. For now, stick to starting strength and eat. seriously, you’ll thank me later.

(says the 5’11 guy who weighed 125 when he first entered a weight room)

Your numbers are way better than mine when i started. Learn, use proper form, avoid injuries, be smart and that will pay in time. Well my 2 cents gift plus Happy season !
PS. Squat deep.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I plan on staying on SS for as long as I can, then Ill look into those three regime’s to see which one looks the like the best road. All in good time though
