New Forskolin Study COOL

Just so happens its at KU just miles from my home town.

Any way neat study

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the effect of forskolin on body composition, testosterone, metabolic rate, and blood pressure in overweight and obese (BMI > or = 26 kg/m(2)) men. RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURE: Thirty subjects (forskolin, n = 15; placebo, n = 15) were studied in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study for 12 weeks.

RESULTS: Forskolin was shown to elicit favorable changes in body composition by significantly decreasing body fat percentage (BF%) and fat mass (FM) as determined by DXA compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05). Additionally, forskolin administration resulted in a change in bone mass for the 12-week trial compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05).

There was a trend toward a significant increase for lean body mass in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p = 0.097). Serum free testosterone levels were significantly increased in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05). The actual change in serum total testosterone concentration was not significantly different among groups, but it increased 16.77 +/- 33.77% in the forskolin group compared with a decrease of 1.08 +/- 18.35% in the placebo group.

DISCUSSION: Oral ingestion of forskolin (250 mg of 10% forskolin extract twice a day) for a 12-week period was shown to favorably alter body composition while concurrently increasing bone mass and serum free testosterone levels in overweight and obese men. The results indicate that forskolin is a possible therapeutic agent for the management and treatment of obesity.

Good post from a fellow kansan! More interesting stuff from the jawhawks!

Very interesting. Thanks, Phill.
After reading this, I started doing a little research on forskolin. It seems to be either great or the next NO2. I’m curious as to what the supplement gurus here at T-Nation think of it.

Guys???

I’d guess they believe in it…or at least an isolated component of it.

'The name of the novel anabolic compound is Carbolin 19. The actual chemical name is colforsin 1,9-ethylcarbonate. Carbolin 19 is a carbonate ester of a naturally occurring diterpene called colforsin (aka, forskolin). Don’t even begin to confuse this material with an herbal extract of Coleus forskohlii! We’re using a carbonate ester of pure colforsin, which means it’s a highly pure, single compound.

We spent the last year extracting and purifying colforsin to pharmaceutical-grade standards and further refining it into a carbonate ester. This reaction extended the duration of action from four hours to 12 hours. The carbonate gave us an increase in bioavailability as well, but it wasn’t enough. So, we incorporated the compound into our Nano-Dispersed Gel, which improved bioavailability to the point of being drug-like.’

Thanks, Scrappy!
I wasn’t aware that forskolin was the infamous colforsin 1,9-ethylcarbonate.
Not sure how I missed that, but I feel pretty stupid right about now.

Very informative, T-Nation bringing us the best as always!

Bump.

This study was actually one of the main reasons for developing Carbolin 19.

As others have mentioned, Carbolin 19 is essentially colforsin or forskolin with ethylcarbonate esters on the hydroxyl groups at the 1 and 9 positions. The reason being that those hydroxyl groups are responsible for pharmacological activity.

didn’t know you guys were from kansas … me 3.

Bastard

Good stuff…Bump again!

Ohhh, Forskolin.

I thought the title read “New Foreskin Study”.

This is more interesting, though.

Cy, out of curiosity, any idea how many people are taking Carbolin 19?

If there was a study out there showing that foreskin consumption increased lean body mass levels:

A) would Biotest identify the active compound and put out Thor-Skin 9000, and

B) would you place your bottle of Thor-Skin 9000 proudly on your desk and pop handful upon handful in front of your co-workers every morning in spite of the subtitle “Release the Power of Foreskin” in bold red letters on the label?

  1. How much would it increase lean body mass?

  2. Co-workers don’t come into my office anyway (they’re skeeered), so the bottle wouldn’t be a problem.

I would probably try to convince the office girls to get their daily requirements naturally, but they should just put it under their tongue to increase absorbtion.

PS Thor-skin 9000 is piss funny!!

Hi lucasa,

Sorry, I don’t quite know how many are taking it. But, now that you mention it, that would be something interesting to get a figure on.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! Nice.

Damn it! I had my forskolin removed when I was a baby…
