Jeez, I totally missed this thread. Well, I wouldn’t say I really missed it, but you know (thank you, Mike Judge)…
First off, It’s the internet. Things can change on the fly. We had a basic idea and had to make considerable adjustments to “get it right.”
No, this is not “THE redesign.” This is a minor adjustment that we all felt was required right now.
Text size: can’t make everyone happy all the time. We still have people that complain our normal text is too small. Making it smaller there would only create another issue with those people. All browsers have the ability to adjust font size. Give it a shot.
This one change should make the articles section a LOT more efficient, as far as giving people a real idea of what they are about, etc. Those of you that do not see that are probably just used to the old way and will need to adjust to it.
Are the new visitors blind? The “Most Recent Articles” banner is right above the articles. What more do they want, flashing banners and arrows pointing to the articles?
You’d think it was enough. But from some people’s point of view, there was just too much similarity between the articles section and the forums. While they function the same, the info (and therefore presentation) should differ. The way it is now really emphasizes that you are NOT just looking at some random threads.

Ha I just figured something was wrong with the site. Doesn’t look right.
At first me too.
I think the pic and the paragraph are great ideas, but the format clash with the rest of the site. I’d prefer the pic and the text in a box like it was before
I’ve frequented a few internet forums and this is always the first reaction I’ve seen if the format was changed.
It’s a great site, the articles are going to contain the same quality of information regardless of how they’re presented, and we’ll all get used to it in a few weeks, maybe even less. And usually, when that happens, you’ll wonder why you ever liked the old format.
I’m glad you showed that graphic. In Safari 2.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.8, I see NO lines between articles; everything is jammed on top of each other.
At work, with Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP (SP2) I see the same thing. I had no idea there were supposed to be lines between each article.
So I just fired up Firefox on the Mac at home and NOW I see it as you intended. Looks very clean now.
We use Safari here (and are also on v 2.0.4) and the formatting is fine. It is most likely due to Safari’s cache handling ability. We had to create several new styles for this layout and your browsers are probably still using the old ones from cache. Clear your cache in Safari (Opt-Command-E) and reload the page. (Additionally, you can clear your cache in Firefox as well and it should also be fine.)
For what it’s worth, I clear my Safari cache a few times per day. It has deadly kung-fu grip on stuff like that.
Also, we do endorse Firefox here as well. That browser is definitely one of the best (as far as compatibility, etc). But you should be able to use any recent browser and see the site the way it’s supposed to be.
