New Factor in Heart Disease

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/06/health/05cnd-protein.htm

The article is talking about a specific protein, not protein in general. But you know this is going to get blown out of proportion. Ban Protein Powders! They cause heart disease! Dammit.

I thought the exact same thing. I’m waiting for some one to call me and tell me about the new “heart healthy, low protein” diet they’re going to try.

This is another good reason why statins maybe aren’t so bad…

C-Reactive protein is NOT a protein that you consume but rather is a protein in your blood that is a marker for heart inflamation. This is not new. However the emphasis on treating it as aggressively as cholesterol is what is new.

Only someone who does not know what they are talking about would try to ban protein powders over this. OH wait the media and congress generally do not know what they are talking about.

A simple multivitamin can lower C-reactive protein too ( without the risk of adverse effects ).
