I like what Paul Chek said a while back. Anyone dispensing dietary advice should be made to do it in a thong.
I always smack my hand against my face when articles say something like: “Showed an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.” and then leave the reader to find the actual statistic on their own.
What if it turns out to be a 3% difference? I’d rather not spend a chunk of my life worrying about reducing my risk for [insert scary sounding thing here] by 1%.

What’s even more worrisome is how they will often use relative risk rather than absolute.
So, to use your # for example. The media and even the studies themselves will use relative. That small 3% increase can be spun by using relative risk measures and claim a 50% increase.
Drug companies are notorious for this.
