New All-Time Raw Deadlift Record 1025lbs

And this is why many people look at powerlifting like it’s a joke.

Did you place top 3? if not, divide it up by weight class and re-attempt

Did you place top 3 in your weight class? if not, add gear restriction and re-attempt

Did you place top 3 in your weight class with gear? if not, remove 1 specific piece of gear and re-attempt

Did you place top 3 in your weight class with a belt, a 2-ply shirt, and only one wrist wrap? If not, don’t make eye contact and deny having gone to the competition

Powerlifting kinda turned itself into a sport of participation trophies with this nonsense.

P.S. I know your post was in jest

It absolutely wasn’t. I think there’s WAY too many rules.

This is basically USAPL raw lifting minus the knee wraps and plus the possibility of being drug tested. Edit: I always liked the requirement that one bar be used for all of the lifts though I never thought of its impact on sumo deadlifts specifically. I like that!

This would turn into an engineering battle. Dudes would squat 5,000 lbs in Tony Stark Iron Man suits.

That sounds pretty awesome.

cant reach the bar… i can barelly reach the bar on a high bar, lol…

trained only sumo for 6 months… hit a silly sumo PR with a red face… then just to test, switched to conventional, with no rest, no warmup and pulled it like it was a warmup… havent done conventional for 6 months before it still was much stronger than my sumo…
i officially cant deadlift sumo worth a shit. suddenly started respecting sumo lifters a bit more as i actually switched to sumo in hopes to do better - all i got was like 15% worse.

That’s why I don’t say sumo’s easier than conventional, I just say it’s a different exercise altogether.

Bingo. I cant sumo for shit. This whole “sumo is cheating” thing is dumb. If it were easier for everyone, then everyone would do it.

Now if federations want to change rules to say feet must be inside grip, fine. Thats up to them and people will decide where they prefer to lift.

Same here. I could never get into a comfortable position with sumo because my legs were too long, was always good at conventional though.
