So you’re not supposed to eat a heavy meal (like your primary dinner) and hour or less before you go to bed.
Because of my schedule, I have to wake up at 545 and do a workout from 6 - 730ish and then eat at about 8 then go to work. I get home about 530 and then at 730 - 8 I either have a yoga or martial arts class, which will go till about 9, I get home about 945 and have to go to bed at 1030. Because of this schedule its hard to get all my calories and nutrients before I have to sleep.
I am wondering if it would be smart to just wolf down a heavy meal at 530ish, roughly an hour and a half to two hours before my classes, or if there is something I should do after my class? or something else entirely? does it matter if I eat after class/would a pre-sleep shake be enough? Maybe I should add to my pre-bed shake with some kind of meal replacement instead of just protein?

A really large meal even 2 hours before working out probably wont work very well. A small-medium meal you can probably get away with, but anything Id consider large for myself would not work out well for me personally.

Nothing wrong with some rice or potatoes or whatever since youve been exercising quite heavily prior. But yeah with your schedule I would stuff myself silly at this point.
I am at about 75% of daily calories within 3 hours of sleep. Typically per Keifer I get my workouts in the 5-630 pm period and then stuff myself funny. Boy do I sleep well !
dreadlocks1221, I see no problem with eating a heavy meal before dinner, especially if it’s in your post-workout window. If you think about it, digestion is more optimal when you’re sleeping because your body is resting and can devote most of it’s energy to the digestion process.
Based on your schedule, however, it seems more reasonable to just have your big shake (with some fruit) and hit the sack. No point in cramming a meal down there if you’re not even hungry. I’d push for a meal prior to your night classes and then just do the shake when you get home.
For you I’d train fasted in the am w/ a post workout shake after. Have the majority of your big meals between 8am and 7pm, and then just do the shake again after your 2nd workout. 8am-7pm is plenty of time to get 4-5 solid meals in there!!
