Hey,
I’m 17 years old, 6’3 and weigh only 158 pounds. I’m really skinny and am getting very upset about it. I tried gaining weight for about 6 months of last year and only got about 5 pounds, plus I grew a inch so thats probably why I gained.
My question is this, im guessing I’m classified as a “hard gainer”. I’m going to start eating 3500 calories a day and going on creatine to. I was also looking into Grow! and Tribex 500 as well. I will do anything except steriods to gain. I just got a years membership to the local olympus here and my goal is to put on 15+pds. before the end of the year. My g/f even said she’d like it if I gained weight so I guess that means I have to gain lol :).
Please help, and remember. Anything but roids :). Thanx

Getting the idea as to what your problem is yet? They don’t make Grow! anymore, but get some Advanced Protein and make calorically dense shakes out of it using skim milk and natural peanut butter. That’s the only supp you need right now, although creatine would be okay. Keep a food log, train with weights- squat, deadlift, chin-up, row, bench etc. No sissy stuff. This should get you started. Go read.
Thanx TEK
I thought I was eating “decent” for what I was trying to do last year, now with what I’ve read, I realize I wasted 6 months trying to gain because I was eating like crap and not enough.
Just a question, why do I “only” need a protien shake and maybe creatine? Wouldn’t the stuff I stated before “help” me gain weight as long as I keep the determination I currently have at the moment to keep gaining? I really want to gain as much weight as possible :).
the reason you don’t need any of the other “stuff” as you put it, besides protein, is that you are not done growing yet, and as such, being only 17 you don’t need it. Your natural T levels are sky high, as well as GH, and Insulin if you died right. Those three hormones will make any one grow. So in terms of what you need to do in the weight room: compound movements (squat, deadlift, pullups, bench, squat, dips, squat, deadlift, dumbell presses and rows, squat, get the point), but all that is wasted if you don’t diet right. EAT ALOT, THEN EAT SOME MORE, THEN EAT AGAIN, and make sure your protein intake is at least 200g preferably 225-250g a day, THEN EAT AGAIN. The only thing I might suggest adding to your supp list is Surge to boost recovery times.
Just like Greg said EAT. It is as simple as that. Don’t pull the “I eat all the time, but can’t gain weight.” If you are eating enough you will gain weight. Go count your calories and see how many you are getting. SQUAT LIKE AN ANIMAL, EAT LIKE A HORSE, SLEEP LIKE A BABY, GROW LIKE A WEED
Hey John I was in your situation about three years ago. I was 6’1" 160. I like you had trouble putting on weight. I found that consistency was my biggest problem. With both eating and with working out. In addition I was not working out properly, just doing random exercises until I decided that I was going to learn proper form and technique, and learn why I am performing reps, sets, etc. If you are going to fail, fail quickly. If it hasnt worked in two months its probably not going to work in another two. I am now a personal trainer and weigh in at 190 lbs at 8%BF.
Just a few things you can do to help you along the way.
Read this site. It has a lot of info.
Be consistent with the eating. It sounds simple but I have found that eating consistently is one of the harder things to do.
Make sure your program is structured. Then at the end of your workout cycle evaluate whether or not it worked, then make changes accordingly.
Most importantly fight like hell and never give up. If you want it bad enough you will achieve it.
