Need For Speed

That is one Hell of a skate!!
I would need two days off.

It’s too icy wet ugly snow to skate here.
and I am thinking soon I will need to clean my bearings too.

on a quick hijack
you can get a foam roller on ebay for nothing
or at target, not sure if they are in the big north.

Thanks kmc, got a couple lines on the foam rollers. My biggest problem is going and getting one.

The weather here is usually a mess from Nov-Apr. It’s mostly rain, but it can rain daily for weeks on end. Dry roads means skating, main problem right now is of course day light. I’ll take what ever I can get.

Good luck with the bearings, I hate cleaning them.

Thanks wasBrOK3n. I want a little more than facts and numbers to reflect back on. Besides, when ever I think I’m losing it. I can read my old posts and get a proper perspective. Mostly it’s to convence myself I’m that I am insane and beyond recovery!

Jan. 21, 2009 Leg Workout

Machine Squats: 230, 320, 410, 500, 500 @ 12 reps

Leg Press 45 degree: 410, 500, 590, 680, 770, 770, 820, 820 @ 8 reps

Kick Offs moving seat: 150 X 3, 165 X 2, 180 X 2 @ 8 ea. leg

Standing Calf Raises: 255, 285, 315 @ 15 reps

Ran out of time, must be slowing down. I’m feeling good with my leg workouts. Cardio is coming along but needs work.

I was told to stay home tomorrow. Work is some what slow at the moment. So I get a good Iron workout and since it will be dry. I get to go for another skate. It’s like my Birthday again and again!

Tomorrow will be 4 degrees celsius with cloudy periods. It will be foggy in the morning but will burn off sometime mid morning. Hopefully no wind, there’s cold and then there’s freezing cold. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but I strongly dislike the cold.

I plan on being prepared tomorrow. I’ll take several forms of extra energy with me. I would really like another long skate, but where are always considerations. My fingers are crossed and I am going into prep mode. Clean the bearing, stretch, rest and stuff my face with carbs.

Life is great then you’re bigger, stronger and faster. Tomorrow it will get even better!

Foggy and -4 degrees celsius with the wind chill. I needed a rest day, that’s my story. If I hadn’t had the last two skates I most likely would have braved the cold. I don’t like the cold, I’m such a pussy!

Got all my food shopping done, health food store, sup. store and grocery store. So I ate all day.

eating is good and staying warm while eating is better…

Did cardio this evening. Held a 5 minute mile for 35 minutes after warming up for 10 minutes. The stairmaster has twenty levels. Level seventeen is a 5 minute mile pace.

This is my delema. I seriously lack the fast twitch muscle fibers in my legs. So coming out of the blocks fast is a killer for me. If I don’t do a 10 minute plus warm-up. My core will over heat, I get nauseous and my breathing becomes hyperventalated. Basically I end up in a mess.

I can train and peek to accomplish speed goals. I can not continue to train at that level and intensity for long.

What I do best is start slow. Working my way up progressively to a high speed and maintain it for hours. Unfortunately thats not what I need to be able to do. So it’s ebb and flow. As I search for my perfect tide table.

The longer I search for perfection the more I understand it can never be had. So I may never be perfect but I’ll be better than anyone else. Bigger, Stronger and Faster one day at a time!

There is no eloquent way to say this. It’s fuck’n freezing out there. A whooping 2 degree celsius -4 with the wind chill. Wind from the north at 11 km. Add 25km plus from my momentum and that was one of the stupidest things I’ve done for a while.

I have no idea what I was thinking. The sun was shining and it really look great out there. I put down 12km around the University before my feet started to freeze. Not for one single moment was I comfortable. After 12km my core was still cold. I need more layers if I want to try that again.

The wind was the worst. It was just cutting though my layers of skins like nothing. We’ll worry about that for next year. The chance of me going out in that cold shit again this year is zero! At least now there will be no quilt for not skating on sunny dry freezing days.

I think I’ll get some rest and maybe hit the gym a little later today. At least I’m warm now! I’m such a whiner when it comes to the cold!

Jan. Skate Log: 122km Skate Log: 382km

That kind of cold and so close to the ocean makes it 1000 times worse! You are tough as nails for going out in the first place stream!

Jan. 26, 2009 Leg Workout 6:15 am.

Machine Squats: 230, 320, 410, 500, 500 @ 12 reps

Leg Press 45 Degree: 590, 680, 680, 770, 770 @ 8 reps

Standing calf raises: 286, 315, 315, 315 @ 15 reps

Got a late start so I had to cut it short today.

Core and Cardio workout

Did some core work and ended up feeling some serious discomfort in the lower back. Still not healed up completly, what a piss off.

Did 75 minutes on the stairmaster. Time to start increasing the duration until we hit the 120 minute mark. Then I’ll start doing my sprint training.

Not at all happy with my lower back. Life sure can be a bitch at times.

Do you have access to a reverse hyper, or can you jury rig one? The bottom part of that movement is supposed to be good for the lower back…

Yes, there are two different types at the gym. I used it yesterday with a 35# and I was fine. As soon as I did incline obliques back lower back just lite up. I’m fine today, and I learned a little more about the nature of my injury. That would make it a good day.

No weights today. I could get to sleep last night. Finally got about three hours, not enough rest for lifting.

Did my cardio this evening. 90 minutes on the stairmaster. My breathing was very relaxed but the legs were struggling at the end. Which means they most likely won’t appreciate what I have planned for them tomorrow.

With luck we’ll have a good sleep tonight.

Okay, sounds great to me!

Jan. 29, 2009 Leg Workout 0600 hours

Machine Squats: 230, 320, 410, 500, 500 @ 12 reps

Leg Press 45 Degree: 500, 590, 680, 770 @ 8 reps

Front Squats: 135, 155, 155 @ 8 reps

Leg Press moving seat, speed presses + calf presses: 300, 340, 340 @ 15 + 8 reps

The speed presses are as fast as I can. Reps are not the focus the speed is. I may drop the weight down to get a more intense burn.

Cardio, stairmaster 1630 hour

Slow and easy to start. My legs felt like foreign objects for the first fifteen minutes. Once I was warmed up and in the groove I got lost in my music. Did 12.11 miles in 75 minutes. Felt worked at the end. My legs had that satisfied feel to them, they did good today.

Tomorrow I’d like to get in 120 minutes at an easy pace. Start getting use to the time. I was thinking once a week, but it may be a bit much with everything else. I decided to do it every ten days. The 120 is easy, 120 at a 6 minute mile pace is exhausting.

I now have a reminder for stretching. Cramps in the legs and abs. If I don’t stretch enough I get a reminder to do some more. I learn fast to do long stretchs but some times there just isn’t enough time.

Today was a great day, I feel worked!

Awesome!

Thanks JimmyT.

I’ve had some difficulty sleeping (above the normal troubles) the last few nights. So I’ve missed some gym time. Last night my lack of sleep caught up with me. I over slept and didn’t take the time to stretch. That cause me to pull those back muscle again. Made for a rough morning.

So I’m pissed at myself for letting work get in the way of my training. It’s ice and heat with a side of stretching. Three days off, today should have been but a navy ship needed cleaning so I had to work. I get Tuesday however. I’m sure I’ll get in some good workouts either way.

Looking forward to seeing GSP kick the crap out of BJ Penn tonight.

And he sure did that!Pound for pound the best fighter out there!

Glad you are headed to more good workouts.

Had a great arm and shoulder workout. It was a leg day but my foot is sore. I think I hurt it kicking some object in a moment of insanity yesterday. Didn’t start hurt until I took my shoes off. Should be good to go for tomorrow.

JimmyT, that was an awesome one sided ass whooping. BJ deserved every moment of it as well. There are however still alot of disbelievers out there. Well I guess Las Vegas depends on that type of thinking!
