Need For Speed

When you put it like that DZ, I feel like a nap!

You almost made me want to take up running again for a minute there, alomost.

When you deadlift 525 you don’t have to run!

Streamline - its been good catching up on your log and seeing the rededication happening.

Great job!

Jan. 12, 2009 Leg workout

Machine Squats: 320, 410, 500, 500 @ 8 reps

Leg Press, moving seat: 300, 300, 300 @ 40 reps

Leg Press, 45 degree: 500, 590, 590, 680, 680 @ 8 reps

Standing Calf Raises: 255, 285, 285, 315, 315 @ 15 reps

Seated calf raises: 135, 135, 135 @ 15 reps

One of those days when everyone is doing legs. Work with or around them but I got the job done.

Next leg day I plan on doing speed drills and front squats.

Nice work my inline skated friend!

I’ve resigned myself to doing legs Sundays or Mondays when everyone is either taking a day off or doing Chest and Biceps

Jan, 15. 2009 Leg Workout

It’s a constantly changing world. So I have to change with it. Looks like the five minute mile will have to wait a little while. It is rumored that the sun will shine on me for, you got it, three days. I have all three of those days off. I think I’ll go skating.

Machine Squats: 230, 320, 410, 500 @ 12 reps

Front Squats: 135 @ 8. 185, 185, 185 @ 4 reps

Kick offs: 135, 159, 165, 165, 180 @ 8 ea.

Standing calf raises: 255, 285, 315, 315 @ 15 reps

Seated calf raises: 135, 160, 160, 160 @ 15 reps

Front squats are going to take a couple of sessions to get comfortable at. Otherwise a good workout. My mind is a couple days ahead of me right now. The weather has been dry for once. By the weekend all the roads should be completely dry and ready for me.

One more long greuling day of work to go. I’m trying to decide whether or not to do a time trial. I’ll need to give that some serious thought over the next day and a half. Bigger, stronger & faster, that’s how I’ll be on Saturday! Yah!

That was fun. I just finished the daunting task of prepping my skates for the weekend. The cleaning of the bearings is such a pain, but so vital. These are persission bearings and if not replace properly you get friction.

The wheels are spinning free and easy. My legs are strong, relaxed and flexible. All my gear is clean and waiting. First aid kit is stocked. We’re good to go!

Now I have to wait and that sucks! Well I guess I better start stretching and eating carbs. Soon it will be time to play and I’m not going to want to come back in. Zoom!Zoom!

Have fun and kick ass!

Jimmy T, cross my heart and hope to die if I don’t do just that.

I’ve decided to attempt a time trial tomorrow. We’ve been getting lots of fog right through the AM. With the clear skies I can be assured a cold and crisp morning. All this means I will most likly have skate in the afternoon. This will mean increased traffic flow at the University.

The plan is to go with the flow. If morning condition permit we’ll pound it out early. Otherwise we’ll attempt it later. If the traffic cramps my style I’ll switch to some hill climbing. My favorite hill is within striking distance. One way or the other it will be an awesome workout.

This will be my first time trial using the double-push skating style. Mostly though it’s just going to be the time of my life. That shit eating grin will be spread across my face like a rainbow in the sky. Damn I love this shit!

Underarmour all the way, 10 degrees celsius tomorrow. The good thing about the cold. Is once you get out into it you have to really move your ass to stay warm.

WOW! That was everything I was hoping it would be. Weather conditions put me on the Trail today. Heavy fog all morning so I decide to fore go the time trial to a later date. The fog lifted as I was driving to the trail cursing the weatherman for a shitty job forecasting.

So the sun was out, but it was cold 6 degrees celsius. Had the skins on in layers; under armour skins, cotton T-shirt, under armour skins, wind shield skins, boxer briefs, under armour long skins, wind shield shorts, head skin cap, helmet, glovers, wrist guards, water, first aid kit, ipod, really cool sunglasses, and a huge heart.

Trail conditions were mostly great. Several sections had sand and fine gravel left over from the snow. It offered great traction but prevented full ROM on the stride. It was 98% dry and that was most important.

I simply had an awesome time. I’m sitting here exhausted with legs like jello as content as possible. Did about 45-50 km holding a 70-80% max. My legs were just fried at the end, just the way I like them.

Mostly it’s my spirit that benefited today. Took away the winter blues in fine fashion. I feel rejuvenated and ready to take the world on.

Once again I am thankful for all that I am able to do. My joy comes from deep within. It can’t be bought, given or taken it must be achieved from passion. From excelling at something that ignites the inferno deep inside. Something, that although it’s exhausting to do, you can not wait to do again, and again!

Today I am content. Tomorrow will be all about improving upon today. Because it is the exertion that is the driving force of my passion. Skating is just the most enjoyable way of achieving that passion. The fun is in the speed, the faster I go the bigger the smile. The bigger the smile the bigger the heart.

Yes I am truly thankful and to show it. I will become the best I possible can. So basically I’m going to continue having the time of my life. Bigger, stronger & faster is really worth it!

Blows me away stream.I tip my hat to you bro! That is how I feel about powerlifting.

Thanks guys, it was a great day but it was yesterday.

It was one degree warmer sunny with a slight head wind. The forecast was for heavy fog all day. Didn’t happen here so I was thrilled.

Started the skate at about 50% max for the first 20km. I planned on doing some distance today. An easy warm-up to get the stiffness out and prep the legs for what was about to happen to them.

At 40km the legs were showing sign of fatique and the start of a nice deep burn. At 55km legs were like logs, the hills kept getting higher and steeper. 60km brought me to the hills, quick down and up followed by a longer down and a steeper up. Turn around at the top and do them again.

Cresting the last hill I did question my sanity, Why? All I could think of was the joke about the guy hitting his head against the wall. Then asked why he was doing it, he replied, “Because it feels so good when I stop!”

Total distance 65km just over three hours. Kept the pace at about 60-65% of max after the warm-up. I had to really dig deep for the last 10km. I was able to pace with a bike for the last 5km. It’ll be easier next time.

There will be lots of stretching and leg rubbing for the next several hours. I will stretch everytime I wake to piss. With luck I can get another strong skate in tomorrow. I’d like to do some sprint work. Maybe with a really good warm-up the legs will pull it off.

I must say the smile was fading from my face by the end. Came right back as soon as I stopped. Great endorphine rush and all was forgiven. Started thinking about recovery treatment, the sun is going to shine again. Life is great!

Jan. Skate Log: 110km…Skate Log 370km

Today has become a rest day of sorts. The muscle stiffness I’m sure I could workout. The sores around my ankles from my skates rubbing is a different story. There is zero give in my skates, being made of a heat molding material. They can be altered with heat but are other wise totally stiff.

Anyway the lacks in form and tired legs due to fatique. Contributed to the lack in ankle support, hence the rubbing. I could possibly suck it up and skate but combined with other exhausted areas. The body is saying ease up buddy boy or I’ll hurt you!

I’ll do push-ups, dips and shoulders at home today. While I rest, stretch and nurse my most priced possession back to top form.

The last two days really helped pick my spirits up. January is pretty much gone. So that leaves February to go before I start to torture myself about the arrival of spring.

you are a skating beast. thanks for posting an enjoyable read.

That is one Hell of a skate!!
I would need two days off.

It’s too icy wet ugly snow to skate here.
and I am thinking soon I will need to clean my bearings too.

on a quick hijack
you can get a foam roller on ebay for nothing
or at target, not sure if they are in the big north.
