Need For Speed

Looks like your rehab is going well.

Rehab is coming along just great. Worked on arms and shoulders today. Went some what easy today, not wanting to mess with the back. Felt good but I’m biting the bit to get the arms super pumped. Get the belt on for the dips and give’r shit.

So I wanted to start cardio today. Which ment that work was going to F me over in someway. Got home at 6:40pm, which was just in time to catch a rerun of GSP and Matt Serra. I never get tired of watching that fight.

Try again tomorrow for the cardio. If nothing else I’m persistant, cause that’s how things that get done.

I have been working through your, log
that is allot of volume , impressive stuff.

I have some 5 wheel skates from soloman…
think I need to clean them off after reading your logs.

The longer you wait, the more you will later wonder why. When I skate, I can’t get the smilie off my face until I stop. If not for the exercise, then for the pure joy of it.

Not much time to skate these days seeing it gets dark at 5pm. Any indoor tracks?

That is so true and no indoor tracks around here. Had a beautiful day yesterday, but the bach/hip tweek I got keeps flaring up. It’s really starting to piss me off. I feel great right now. Zero indication of an injury. Then out of the blue I’ll be doing something easy and it starts up.

I have three days off starting tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go easy and see if a couple of down days will help cure this aggravation.

Staff Christmas party in Vancouver on Sunday. Worst time of the year, I don’t like travelling, period. A four-five hour party and it takes twenty hours to get there and back. Need to spend the night, zero Ferry service after 10 pm. I better win a big prize or I may tell the bosses exactly whats on my mind. Which I can do, because I’m so fucking great at my job they don’t want me working for the competition, I hope!

Healing as best I can so I can become as strong as I can. Have a great weekend guys.

This tweek in my back/hip is extremely frustrating. It has flared up at work twice. First was at the end of the day thankfully. The second time was yesterday about half way through the day.

The pain it creates is off the scale. At times it was made me want to throw-up. I can usually handle a large amount of pain. This is crippling, can’t move shit. It’s in a spot that can’t be stretched or rubbed.

The crazy part is it will settle down in about twelve hours. Then it’s as if it never happened. I’m staying home of the staff Xmas party tomorrow and laying around doing nothing. Same as Monday.

I really need this to go away forever. There is no warning that I’m aggravating it. I feel a little pressure and now that I know, I get ready for hell on earth. IBU 200 are the only painkillers that work.

This is the first time in my life that I have carried painkillers with me. Now that sounds old and you just know I don’t like that at all. I truly hope this rest will put an end to this cluster fuck. I’m not a happy camper right now.

I don’t know what it is. Which means I don’t know how to heal it. I can’t even pin point what aggravates it, so I can prevent it from flaring up. Right now I feel on top of the world. Like there is nothing that I can’t do.

Twenty four hours ago I was almost in tears. Unable to move correctly, or wanting to move. The pain is there whether I move or not. It’s times like this that I totally understand why the body has no memory for pain.

I want my God like status returned, right fuck’n now. PLEASE!!!

This is going to sound strange and may go absolutely nowhere, but you might want to track what you’re eating a few hours before the pain happens.

There may be a relation… There may not. It sounds like an episodal inflammation of some sort, and may be an allergic response to something you ate.

Thanks Skidmark. I’ll keep that in mind. All though my deit has not fluctuated more than 2% in the last 7 or 8 years.

My big concern is since I can only feel it once it flares up. I have zero idea as to whether it’s healed or not. I have done nothing the last three days.

I do remember doing the same activity prior to the pain. I have told myself to change my technique when doing that activity. Plus I plan on slowing down my pace for a couple of days.

My holidays start in seven days. I would much rather low key the next several day. Just to make sure. I can’t sit around for three weeks unable to workout. That’s called going insane.

So in short I’m not willing to rule anything out. So again thanks Skidmark.

I know - it’s like some fella following you around with a trucheon, whacking you when you least expect it and for no discernable reason. Hard to deal with.

My thought was that maybe some structural change has happened since your crash and now the area, which may have had inflammation before but had enough room to swell without pain, now no longer has enough room to inflame and so hurts. You weren’t specific with the location of the pain, but I was guessing it was in the spine… Easy enough to misalign the nerve channels through crashes and falls and millimeters can make the difference between feeling god-like invincibility and feeling like a worm.

It’s strange Skidmark but pin pointing the exact location is difficult. The best I can do for location. Is it’s back in hidden right of the spine and close to the hip.

I’m leaning toward the hip flexors, Iliacus & Psoas Major. However the pain may be shotting from Lumbar 1 or 2 or the sacrum. So many nerves in the general area.

I have also been thinking about the possible correlation between my accident and this problem. Appears great minds think alike.

Skidmark I appreciate any and all input. My hopes are that I just pulled a deep sensitive muscle. Some rest and light stretching. If it flares again we’ll be going to the experts and see if there’s damage.

Once again Skidmark I value all the input you and all the others give me. It’s not often you come across a place with so many, way cool people. Thanks Skidmark.

Put in a solid day of work and zero back issuses. I really want to go to the gym tomorrow. Torn between a want and a maybe. Want the gym but maybe the back isn’t healed.

I’ll decide tomorrow. Stretch out nice and easy and take it a day at a time. Just another speed bump on the road to glory.

Things went south yesterday, with the muscles in the tail bone area flaring up. It could even be tendon, since the location of the soreness is right at the bone. I was able to determine this yesterday.

Things started to flare up on my first job. As soon as I felt a problem I stopped work and probed the problem area. Before the pain was to intense and wide spread to locate. Today I able to determine the source the injury.

In away the flare up yesterday was a good thing. Having identified the area of concern I was able to start working on the problem. Ice, heat, massage, stretch and rest have all been applied.

Today started off with some stiffness and discomfort. Now I’m sitting here in comfort. With the knowledge that my holidays at the gym will be a total success. I will continue my injury treatment for the next three or four days. Then it’s back to the gym.

This small injury sure has shed some light. I realise now even more, just how much this thing we do means to me. Sitting here with a big old shit eating grin on my face. Looking forward to getting stronger and faster. I am a happy camper!

Short up date. Some discomfort in the solf tissue area of the lower back. Started to tighten up mid afternoon. Not the pain and discomfort of the past. It’s settleing down quickly with my treatment.

I worked hard today. I needed to see where my injury was at. Still a few days to go, but really good progress. It makes such a huge difference. Went you know what the root cause of the injury was.

Three more work days and it’s 20 days off. Time to go to work and play all day. The powers that be were considerate enough to give me the HMSC Protecteur to clean on my last day. If you’ve ever heard any jokes about our armed forces. This is the biggest ship in our pacific fleet. It can’t be more than a thousand feet in length.

Not that I care. I just like doing a real bang on job for our sailors. It will take two of us all day to just do the carpets. Lay out about 450 feet of vacuum hose and crank that suction up to full sucking power, ugh, ugh, ugh.

I’m good to go. Legs tomorrow, starting the plate loaded leg press. See what kind of heavy shit we can press. I love doing full range of motion. I’ll find my working max then do my sets. Then I’ll finish them with single press max outs.

I’ve been waiting for this cycle. It’s unfortunate that I lost some leg days due to injuries. Need to move on though or I’ll fall way behind. Time to kick it up.

I get six solid leg workouts on my days off. Almost seven but it falls on New Years and the gym is closed. Work on the second then three days off. These are going to be hour & a half to two hour sessions.

It’s going to be a great holiday season. For Christmas I get to be stronger, Yah! Well I have to go write Santa so he knows how strong I want to be.

SL - my mid to upper back issues created pains that were deep and unidentifiable in the lower back - very similar to yours. my “pains” were in lower back near the hip. i found that pain actually originated from intense muscle tightness in my mid to upper back. when i stretched/massaged the taught mid upper muscles, the lower problems went away.

when i do the stretch where u do a pushup with hips on the ground it really helps.

I think you maybe on to something there. From what I can determine it appears that the activity that is the root cause. Is in fact a mid to lower back activity. Now that you have brought this to my attention. I will start doing more stretching in that area.

With three weeks off work I plan on working out and stretching. I am having to put myself in a hard core frame of mind. The weather here has set numerous records for low temperatures and will continue to do so for a while. Although the snow is not deep. For a city that doesn’t usually get snow however it’s a bad scene.

I have told myself that I go to the gym every day (starting tomorrow) even if it means walking the forty-five minutes there and back. I’m getting everything done today because the temperatures are going to drop. Not like most places but with the melting and freezing bouncing back and forth. I don’t wish to be driving with all the retards that will be out there going crazy trying to do everything at the last moment.

Thanks for the imput wasBrOk3n, I do appeciate all the advise I can get to solve this irritation.

no problem - i poked and probed my lower back and never could really pinpoint the pain no matter how deep i went. i was amazed to find how tender some of the muscles were farther up the back, but there was really no lingering pain there. its funny how issues can manifest themselves in other areas.

i get a stiff neck from rhomboid problems - same deal.

sounds like u could use a good massage - amazing what a proper therapist can do.

good luck with the pain issues and the cold.

Dec 18, 2008 Leg Workout

The walk to the gym took forever, 70 minutes but my legs were warmed up.

45 Degree Seated Leg Press: 320, 410, 500, 590, 640 @ 6 reps, 680 @ 3, 730 @ 2, 770 @ 1 all full range of motion, except 770

Romanian Dead Lifts: 185, 225, 275 @ 8, 295 @ 3

Standing Calf Raises: 240, 255, 270, 285, 300, 315 @ 8 reps

Seated Calf Raises: 90, 135, 135, @ 10

Long walk home. Tomorrow I’ll bus it. Great to be back at the gym, home away from home. The weather here is going to continue to suck for a couple weeks. So walking or busing is just the simplest way to get around. Not like I’m in a hurry as I enjoy my days off.

Tomorrow I’m going to pump up the canons. The forearms are going to get a solid workout as well. The shoulders will get there share as well but not to much, yet. Time to get back to doing nothing!

How do you sleep?
do you sleep on your face?
side?

and do you foam roll?
do you have tender spots or stiff hard spots on your back?

I would second the opinion to try for a really strong massage.
I try to get one once a month, twice if I am particularly beat up.

I find I have to do allot for my back and neck
I have to use ice and heat.
that is why I ask about the soft or “hard” balls or spots on your back.
Ice and heat to break up the build up of
toxins fluids etc.

foam and ball rolling the rhomboids helps too.
