Yeah, good synopsis.
Hopefully, Ohio State and Alabama will both be excluded, and Central Florida will be in. Tons of people would be pissed.

Controversial Hot Take;
Georgia defeats Alabama 27-21 in an All SEC Final.
Broken record time
8 team playoff
That OU game was fun. Not! Probably best seats ever at Jerry World only to get spanked. Always happy for a few days in San Antonio.
Not sure I agree with Bama getting in but didnāt agree w/ OSU getting in over Baylor or TCU in 2014. 3rd year in a row Big 10 will not have scored a point in the playoffs. Hoping for an all Crimson championship.
I think if OU stays healthy they destroy everything in their path. Bama would kill UGA, doubt either one survives the first game.
The 50? Sweet!
I hope Clemson beats Alabama like a rented mule.
Hereās why - it will be an uproar to go to 8 teams.
And there will be some influential schools questioning why the conference championship means so much (if it doesnāt), and why the committee has the ability to change the parameters fior getting a shot at the title, on a whim.
Lastly, why bother saying there is a Power 5?
The āNational Championā title has always been a subjective rather than objective choice, anyway.
True, need more teams in. If you are going to segregate the top 5 conferences then each 1 should send atleast 1 representative.
Dadās side of family has 7 Tide grads so hoping they do well but not optimistic. Doubt they beat both Clemson and OU.
Not exactly sure the purpose of the conference championship games but yesterdays affair surely made money. If it was ever Iowa State v Baylor or even TCU v KState itās probably a losing proposition.
In basketball and baseball itās the Cinderellas that make things interesting. I had never heard of Stony Brook college until they made it to Omaha 1 year, but in football they do their best to squeeze those teams out. How do we really know if UCF could play with the big boys unless they actually tee it up?
What about a play in game, if necessary? they do it in basketball. Bama v OSU.
Oklahoma does have a very potent offense. But the Georgia defense will Actively attempt to stop them and aggresively try to Take Away the ball. It will be interesting to see how OU performs under those conditions.
Football aināt basketballāit takes a far greater toll on the body and mind (read: CTE). A four-team playoff is plenty, in that itās simply not reasonable to ask these kids to play more and more games. As fans, weāll just have to deal with the fact that, on occasion, a deserving team will get left out. Cāest la vie.
Thereās actually a fairly reasonable solution to this: shorten the regular season back to 10-11 games (which it used to be, and things were perfectly fine), and expand the playoff to 8 teams (P5 champs; one spot reserved for highest-ranked G5 team; two at-larges).
For the record, I donāt think any ādeserving teamā was left out this year. If OSU doesnāt like it, perhaps they shouldnāt give up 55 points to Iowa next year.
True, but the problem with that is it requires we take a game away from ~120 teams in order to allow 8 others to play one more. And some (most?) of those 120 teams need that extra game in order to pay the bills.
Further, we all know what would happen if the playoffs were expanded to 8 gamesāinevitably, people would declare that allowing āonlyā 8 teams to participate leaves deserving teams out, and thus the playoff should be expanded further. The point being, fans will never be satisfied with the size of the playoff field, so we might as well cap it at 4. Just my 2 cents.
Every weekend is a Play Off game!
Also, the āLoser Bracketā of (sometimes) intriguing, competitive Bowl games is better than watching Clemson over Wisconsin in round 1 or something.
I favor using the rest of the bowls like an NIT, but only 1 conference tie in per bowl. When I was a kid (and the earth was flat) the Southwest conference had 3 bowls and they were free to get opponents from wherever, so generally all 3 were good games, or atleast interesting matchups.
Iāve never been a fan of the bodybag games and donāt feel that the more profitable schools owe someone a payday, and as a fan I hate having to pay for that game as part of my season ticket package (I know the pros include preseason as part of the packages, but I hate it). If anything play the 1AA (or whatever they call it now) in late august, in a format similar to a high school scrimmage, and it does not count in standings.
I like the 4 team playoff. It can be two bad for the one (or two) conferences left out, but I am ok with that because there are other good match ups in (some) bowl games.
Two I am particularly looking forward toā¦
This year we get a āclassicā Big Ten champ vs Pac-(10)12 champ, except OSU and USC meet in the Cotton instead of the Rose. I am also very intrigued by Auburn and UCF in the Peach. Itās interesting the Frost is sitting around to coach.
Agreed, Frost coaching the UCF Bowl game is really cool. I hope he has a lot of success at Nebraska.
@EyeDentist @ActivitiesGuy This was my earlier season solution.
1 - 2 inter conference games could be scratched if 14 games is too many (Texas HS is 15 games for champion, l think).
One big item is Div I lets too many conference variables exist - disparate division strength, some conference championships, uneven conference size, win padding by playing perpetual doormats or Div II schools. Unless these are more equalized, a playoff of any size still has a popularity factor.
Was reading about one of the coaches of old (donāt recall who) that said they played for conference championships and then bowl wins, since they couldnāt control how the AP voted the āNational Champā title.
Texas High School is 16
Playoffs are a bit too āparticipation trophyā-ish.
2 divisions, 4 teams per district - bleh.
Hey we made Bi-District with a 2-8 seasonā¦
I would agree. 4 teams per district is ridiculous. Tons of blowouts the first 2 weeks.
