NBA Free Agency/Offseason

You know which player made the biggest bonehead move this free agency period?

Richard Jefferson

Underperformed with SAS, they STILL wanted to keep him at $15M for next season, and he opts out. Now he’s a FA and surprisingly no one wants to pick him up.

What a way to lose a good thing.
Wonder if he goes back to SA and they knock off a coupla’ mil from their initial offer? How old is Jefferson now? 29 or 30? He should still be relatively young, and he has some game left in him, I just think SA was a bad fit and he wasn’t comfortable. Not unlike Turkoglu in TO. Surprised Phoenix hasn’t expressed interest. He’d fit well in their system, would add some D on the wings and he’s from there.

Wow! The Heat resigned Haslem… he took a contract for $12 million when he had offers from other teams for $25 million!!! Wow! Thats pretty crazy.

Agreed. Everyone talking abut James or Wade leaving a few mil on the table need to look at this. This guy just gave up an oppertunity to have his salary doubled to win. Who else would/has done that? Pretty admirable. Even so, you have to think they’re gonna compensate him somehow.
Miami apparently has no income tax and lower all around taxes, so the annual money differential isn’t as significant. Plus I’d rather have 12m in Miami than 25m in Milwaukee.

Y’all are putting love on the OKC Thunder but I just can’t place that much enthusiasm in them. What’s to say they don’t turn up like the old PHX Suns team that every basketball fan loved to watch, that drew excitement and therefore expectations but never materialized into anything solid. I like how they play together and their team oriented mentality but I think ultimately experience will be their shortfall.

Pretty sweet if you ask me.
How about the Seattle Supersonics.

What is this team that you speak of?

Listen, I still believe in the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks. If only these 2 teams would rule over the West every single year.

I’m talkin’ Shawn Badass Kemp.

Then old school Ray Allen.

And don;t forget about the Glove.

That team had some nice players and some nice moments. What a shame…

This is 'cause you don’t know much about basketball.

I’ve got an international perspective of Basketball. Sorry if you Americans know so much…

HAHA it was a joke. I know about the Sonics.

Can’t forget Hersey Hawkins and Detlef Schrempf. And don’t forget Jack Sikma haha.

I thought you were gonna make a comment about how the team relocated to OKC (even though the citizens of Seattle voted against a new arena four years in a row. The people of Seattle still say OKC ‘stole’ the team. Not true, they had their chance to keep the team and they didn’t).

Haha don;t worry I knew you knew. But yeah when ever I think of the Thunder I think of the Sonics and those cool teams they had. Same with the Bobcats and Hornets. 90s basketball rocked.

You know what’s funny about what you said here?

After we lost the series to LAL, my cousin, brother and I were talking about our playoff performance. My cousin asked me ‘are you disappointed in our playoff performance this year?’ and I said (paraphrased) ‘no I’m not disappointed, because we’re a young team with no playoff experience. We’ll get there. Now, if we turn into the Phoenix Suns where we make the playoffs 15 years in a row and not win a championship, let alone even PLAY for a championship, then yeah, I’ll be mad.’

So it’s funny you brought up PHX because I used it in reference to the Thunder. Hope we turn out like the championship team we are destined to be.

Gospel

Did anyone else catch the pre-championship parade/celebration in Miami Friday night with the three stooges coming out on stage celebrating like they just won something? I actually think I hate Lebron more gan ARod now. That’s saying a lot since I can’t stand ARod. I was just listening to sports radio where the announcers were criticizing this pre-celebration. They put out there WWKD or what would Kobe do? Ha. Once again they were saying he wouldn’t be caught dead doing any pre-celebration of any sort without accomplishing anything.
Yeah but Kobe is an entire different character with what appears to be a paradox set of attitudes and beliefs to someone like LeBron. Maybe we should stop setting Kobe as the gold standard for a champion. You don’t have to have Kobe Bryant’s attributes to become a winner.

I look at the pre-celebration as a preemptive strike on other teams in the NBA next season. It’s a scare tactic to show that they (the 3 Amigos) have an immense amount of confidence and motivation to accomplish great things in the upcoming season.

Other than that I don’t think LeBron James and the Miami Heat mind being the villains in the League next year. Who knows maybe its the ‘push’ LeBron needs to finally win.
tmoney1 wrote:

After Kobe, I would call Melo the best clutch shooter in the game (with KD right behind Melo). It would be a nice fit for all those guys to go there and make NYK relevant again.

After Kobe you don’t have Dirk? =(

Yeah. I could have said Jordan. It’s that mentality of wanting to kill everything in your path. I’m just overly critical of Lebron in particular because his ego is so big and he likes to celebrate a lot when he hasn’t done anything yet of significance the 7 years he’s been in the league. Did I mention that I hate his guts?

Guaranteed Kobe and the Lakers aren’t scared. Neither are the original THREE with the Celtics.

You have a lot more belief in him than I do on the mental aspect of the game. I think he’s mentally weak and I don’t see Lebron doing any significant pushing any more than he already has. Once it gets tough out there in the playoffs he’ll fold again.

Just got this from a Rick Reilly article snippet that makes the point nicely.

If you’ll forgive someone weighing in from Europe, here are five things that maybe haven’t already been said about LeBron James:

James loves to have fun. He’s not a killer, like Michael Jordan. He’s not a harping-on-the-court-coach, pain-in-the-rear like Kobe. He doesn’t need to win like he needs his next breath, like Lance Armstrong. He is goofy and funny and whimsical. The fake camera shots, the dancing, the chalk. He was like that in high school and he’s still like that. So why should anybody be surprised when he wants to play with his friends in a city that’s 97 percent fun? The Miami Heat are the perfect fit for James. It’s Dwyane Wade’s team. Wade can be the killer, like he was while winning a ring in 2006. James will just dunk, swat layups and do his Kid n’ Play impressions. You could see it in how much he loved the over-the-top bacchanalia the Heat put on for the Three Rise Men – fireworks, fog, voguing down the catwalk. You may want him to be something else, but he’s not. What are you going to do, sue?

Be sure to read the other four points he makes about Lebron. It’s kinda funny.

NEWS: DAL and UTA coming down head to head with MIN to get Al Jefferson.

UTA needs to replace Boozer, so Jefferson would be nice. DAL re-signed Brendan Haywood so not sure what DAL would do with him.
