NBA Free Agency/Offseason

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!! this is bad bad bad news for the league.

Poor Cleveland… I hope they riot and burn his mansion down! What a fucking egotistical douche! Oh so he’s too good to make his announcement at the press conference yesterday with Wade and Bosh? What an ass

.

Insane. He gave up attention and money. I did not expect that. Though maybe it’s just a lack of foresight on his part. Or there’s something I’m missing?

Gave up attention?!? What do you think this whole prime time special thing is about?

While this special was probably a move to make him seem like the most important person on the Heat, the fact is, he is probably going to have to share the spotlight on his team with Wade and Bosh.

I hate how they keep being called the “super team,” I hope that nickname doesn’t stick

Oh you know it will. Just like Bostons “Big 3”… This is gonna be hyped up as the Super team. I just hope they can’t sign any other good role players since they’re giving those 3 so much money and can’t win in the playoffs. And I hope Wade and Bosh double team LeBrons mom. Then Delonte West releases a sex tape with Lebrons mom right as the playoffs start.

The heat will implode worse than the French Soccer team at the World Cup!

This does mean no more MVP’s for LBJ. you can’t be the leagues most valuable player when you’re on a team with two other max contract guys.

.greg.

Well now we need to see the final numbers on the big 3’s contracts, gonna be interesting to see how they fill this team out. Also the domino effect will finally start in NJ/NY, and then the non-max guys still left will finish up(I suppose that already started with J Oneal going to Boston).

Very True…sullies Lebron’s “Brand” for sure

Larry Hoover dove off the mountain top and turned into a golden eagle
It’s time for us to come together as one, one game, one nation
We makin’ informants get plastic surgery

Miami’s new theme music. This team can only be described as BAWSE.

^You just know this guy and the rest of Cleveland have the Kendrick Perkins face on right now. Sheeeeit.

This all started with Garnett and Allen going to Boston. Injuries aside, they’d have probably made the Finals 3 years in a row, and maybe have 2 titles as well. And it’s become obvious that the decrease in stats doesn’t hurt your star power at all as long as your team wins a shitload.

Ray Allen’s on my radar way more than he ever was when he was with Seattle and Milwaukee. Paul Pierce kind of disappeared from the average fan’s consciousness when Boston fell off. Even with his perennial MVP candidacy Garnett wasn’t as big a deal as he could be in a bigger city, and in Boston he’s got that.

The thing is, with Boston, it was a bunch of aging stars who were still technically in the good part of their careers that were resorting to it, and Allen was traded for anyway. It’s more along the lines of Payton and Malone joining LA, no one could blame them [and they don’t count as the first example because they failed].

I don’t like the idea of a super team in Miami either, it just seems like a cop out, and it will leave a few teams with no attractions or foundations at all. TO is already in that position and Cleveland will too. And while Boston’s Big 3 had a lot to gain and not much to lose as far as legacy goes, if the only titles LBJ wins are on a Miami Superteam it’ll haunt him the way Shaq haunted Kobe until he won two on his own.

I can’t say I wont be excited if a superteam is formed to see how it plays out, but I’ll also be a little annoyed, too. Either way, I don’t see them having a chance at 72-10 and a title anyway…and if they don’t build up the rest of their roster with good cheap role players they might not even be that great of a team.

Because if all 3 go to Miami, the Heat have a grand total of FIVE players signed, and that’s assuming that they don’t give any of their players for Bosh.
Garnett and Allen did what they did on the downside of their careers (understandable) after having toiled and paid their dues to their original teams (Minnesota and Milwaukee respectively). In no way does the Boston situation resemble what has just occurred with three players in their prime colluding to one team. The sport has never witnessed this before and frankly, I don’t think it’s good for the sport.

To be completely honest though, I’m not having these guys as the favourites until at least I see how they fill out the roster. I still have Lakers coming out of the west, and if they can keep healthy and not play their age, the Celtics can come out of the East. If not the Celtics, Orlando has proven they can make it.

We’ll see though. The sky’s the limit for these guys if Wade or LeBron decides to play second fiddle [Bosh WILL make the sacrifice, no question], or if both willingly take a hit to their numbers. But it could also be a big disappointment.

Even if things implode they’ll st least get 50-55 wins. We all know the playoffs are a whole different animal. But holy crap right now the starting lineup of the Heat looks frighteningly similar to Team USA.

You gotta see how the ‘Boston effect’ plays out here, there are going to be some people willing to take massive paycuts to hop on that gravy train.

With that said, as I mentioned above, I am right there with you: we need to see what’s going on with Beasley(Bosh’s contract isn’t inked yet, sign and trade could still happen), and how much cash the 3 are taking(assuming 16.6 each, but we don’t know).

I dunno if I buy this team being ready in 1 season, but when that new CBA happens(a lockout would suck for this team btw) they could probably get really cooking with some solid role players.

Also wanted to add that the “confirmed” reports of James winding up in different places were probably started by James himself to generate more attention his way. With each passing day James is coming off as a bigger and bigger douche. I’m starting to genuinely dislike the guy, and I don’t even know him.
x2

The best move for him would have been extreme humility this summer, doing his free agent process quietly with no fan fare. He needed to act like he came up short b/c he did. I think the created buzz, but they were not smart enough to know how it would come off and reverberate against his image. This is what happens when you mix arrogance and the stupid (but loyal) decision to put your childhood friend in charge as your business manager. There are far better people at this than Maverick Carter.

With the looming CBA, and that fact that there are a bunch of teams with too much money and barely any players, dudes are going to have to take bigger paycuts from potential salaries than in other years. This is a great time to be a mid level player. NY and NJ, and TO for the matter are probably going to overpay a lot of guys just to look like they did something [TO is already I believe]. Even Darko’s caked up now.

I can still see some guys taking pay cuts to get on, though. Maybe there are some old guys who desperately want a title that I can’t think of right now.

PS: I’m really sorry man. Damn, I know how you feel. If they’re all taking paycuts than there a good chance we won’t get anyone for Bosh.

Man this is big news. I don’t know how to feel. Cleveland is pissed I know that much. They just saying on SC that Cleveland fans are burning 'Brons jersey. I think that is disrespectful and I stand by with I said before that Ohio sports fans should be happy and be grateful they got to ‘witness.’ On the other side South Beach must be going crazy (how many times have you heard that in the last hour).

Overall, I don’t like this entire free agency so far just because all the talent has been distributed so unevenly. The NBA is facing a win/loss from what has transpired so far. On the popularity, marketing, hype side the NBA has gone up. I expect high revenues in 2011. On the other end it might be a loss on the basketball side. The talent has basically clustered together. The West has become weaker and the East is in a state of disequilibrium.

I can imagine the countless amount of articles, reports and opinion pieces until that whistle blows to kick off the 2011 season but we’re all just going to have to wait to see how this entire off season is going to play out.

Wow. I honestly didn’t think he’d do it. I think all of the talk of him not caring about winning got to him and he made a decision he’s not entirely sure of. His days of being talked about as a potential GOAT are OVER. The great ones take on all comers. The good ones join 'em. Also, what struck me is his choice of wording. He said “I want to LEAD this team to a championship”. Not sure if it was a Fruedian slip or what, but he’s gonna have to learn his days of leading are over. He’s now along for an equal part of the ride. Even with the firepower they have now, I just don’t see this working the way they planned. This may have completely changed the way pro basketball works, and it wont be for the better.

Oh yeah, His ego is out of fucking control. He kept talking about what he did for the Cavs and how he took them places they had never been and would never go without him and how loyal he is and yadayadayad… shut the fuck up. I really don’t think he knows what he just did and he’s gonna regret this really soon.
