NBA Free Agency/Offseason

Also wanted to add that the “confirmed” reports of James winding up in different places were probably started by James himself to generate more attention his way. I think it’s even more likely that they were started by other people [mainly journalists] who wanted some attention, for seemingly breaking a story. I remember on PTI they were making fun of LeBetard for first breaking the LBJ to Miami in a Superteam story a couple of days ago when it seemed like that wasn’t going to happen. Reporters are desperately searching for the smallest thread of evidence to make a story on, whether that’s a quote from Worldwide Wes, an ‘unnamed executive’ speaking informally, or something even more ridiculous.

That isn’t to say that it LeBron couldn’t have started one or two of them. It’s not weird at all in the world of TV/Movies/Music for an artist to resort to cheap ways of marketing. If an actress can go out and lie about being bisexual or previously having anorexia right before her movie is out, this isn’t unfeasible. It would be a precedent in sports though.

A very timely article (with a 12 hour shelf life) from Bill Simmons regarding the free agency bonanza that will culminate tonight at 9 pm EST.

And here’s one snippet to whet your appetite…great article:

Let’s say LeBron signs with Miami. Can you even make the Finals with LeBron, Bosh, Wade and nine minimum-salary guys? Because that might be next year’s team â?¦ and if that’s what happens, the answer is “no effing way.” You don’t win titles just because of your top three. That belittles the meaning of guys like Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, Steve Kerr, John Paxson, Brian Shaw â?¦ you could go on for hours naming role players who swung a title. The 2008 Celts lucked out by getting James Posey, Eddie House and P.J. Brown for practically nothing; Miami wouldn’t have that luxury this summer, not with so many role players jockeying for contracts one year before the possible lockout. Nobody is taking less money to showcase themselves for a summer that might not happen. Even if Miami could spin Michael Beasley for a fourth guy (say, Trevor Ariza), that’s still not enough. They’d need one more rebounder, point guard, a 3-point shooter and a center. Good luck.

^^ There’s no doubt in my mind that it’s his “camp” that keeps leaking all of these reports that he may end up here, there, and everywhere. It’s pretty despicable behavior. I already disliked the guy for a variety of reasons. Now after this free agency process and reading the articles I posted a page ago in this thread, I genuinely loathe the guy.[/quote]

You and I have been at the top of the list of people that like James the least, so it’s no surprise we agree. It’s crazy how off-putting this guy is considering I never met him. Oh, I skimmed the last article you linked and the writer brings up some really good points all around. This years free agency nonsense has furthered my “The NBA is turning into the WWE” suspicions. This shit is fucking ridiculous.

This is true… their starting offense would be good but who would they have coming off the bench? They would need some good role players and probably wouldnt be able to get good ones with whats left of the money. Interesting point! They’d probably roll through the regular season but that shit wont fly in the playoffs

I’ve got to start reading more Bill Simmons. That is all.

Yeah I dont like James either. I used to but this whole thing is bullshit. It really cant end in a good way. No matter where he goes he’s going to look like a douche for waiting it out to announce his decision. He’s known for a while now where he is going and all this hype/build up is rediculous.

If he leaves he’ll be hated in Cleveland (which would be awesome) but if he stays then he’ll look like a real asshole for stringing the Cavs and their fans along. I think the only good announcement would be that he is actually signing with the Cleveland Browns and will be playing wide receiver next year! Now that announcement would have totally been worth the wait/hype/bullshit!!!

Thank goodness the raps signed Linus Kleiza to replace CB4 :stuck_out_tongue:

Ditto; over the past few years due to workload I’ve fallen off the "Reading Bill Simmons/ESPN articles at work " thing but man that article…

Serious laughs. Being a Torontonian, I have mixed emotions about Bosh leaving us for the Heat but whatever; sad to say the Raptors are nowhere in the hunt for the next few years/decade…

Props to Durant for doing it old school. OKC has got it good with a player like that.

Was just about to post this. They were absolutely tearing him apart. And, like the woman [McMullen?] said, no matter what he does at this point he can’t win. All the shit he’s done up to this point has left a bad taste in the publics mouth and nothing he can do tonight will erase that. Like I said earlier it’s really ironic to me that he’s more concerned about his image than anything but the way he’s handled things recently has knocked him down a couple of pegs in the publics eye.

Did you guys hear about LeBrons newest advertising deal in order to become a Global Icon? He’s trying to one up D Wades T-Mobile deal by signing with Apple. Apple is going to release a LeBron James phone!!! The signature feature is that its vibrate only… It has No Rings!

x2 on Jay’s avatar being fap-worthy

On TheScore, the ticker has a specific section about LeBron. There one for the NBA, NHL, MLB, etc, then there’s one for Lebron. LOL Some things from the LeBron section:

-Chris Paul is reportedly urging James to play for Cleveland under Byron Scott. Maybe because Paul want to join them soon?

-James is planning a party in South Beach to celebrate his decision.

-MSG stock went down 5% now that it looks like LeBron’s not going there.
