And about the triple double, LeBron could easily average 10 APG running Miami’s offense, so if he can manage 10 RPG it’s a definite possibility. That’s always been one of his goals, along with a ring and being a billionaire athlete. But it’s gonna be hard for him to get that third one without divorcing Tiger Woods.
say James averages 18, 10, and 12 over 80 games and MIA gets the 1 or 2 seed? don’t they have to give him MVP again? what about 16, 10, 14 over 82 games?

Not outrageous to envision something like this unfolding…
There’s two ways to look at that. One: Larry Bird thought the triple double was the most useless “stat” in basketball. He said he could do it every night if that’s what he focused on, but that’s not what his team needed. Two: No one in the modern era has done it. Jordan came close a couple of times, James has come close a couple of times, and Grant Hill almost did it as well. That fact alone would sway a lot of voters, kinda like James chase down blocks swayed the voters to put him on the all defensive team despite the fact that he’s an average at best man defender. I seriously doubt he gets a triple double for the season either way. Despite his size he’s not known to mix it up. I can see him at 22, 10 & 8.
Rebounds will probably be the thing that holds him back if he doesnt get a triple-double, but if he does or gets close enough he will be an MVP candidate for sure. But unlike the last two years, hes not the clear-cut favourite.

He could easily lose to Durant or Kobe at this point, even if he averages a triple double–assuming the Lakers get the first or second best regular season record, or the Thunder make it to the top 4 in the west. Even though most fans put too much weight on stats, I`m more confident in the writers and others who vote on the MVP award.

Nice!! Rolling over to a second page!

So who do you guys think are the biggest winners/losers so far in the FA period?

Winners: Pat Riley, Wesley Matthews, Amir Johnson, Drew Gooden, Bulls, Mavs

Losers: Richard Jefferson, Amar’e Stoudemire (if no one joins him in NY), Bobcats
Orlando were already championship caliber teams, and still managed to get better. The Magic signed Q-Rich, and kept Reddick.
I’d like to believe this, but I’m not sure whether Quentin Richardson will make up for losing Barnes. Barnes was streaky and prone to stupid turnovers at times, but he was tenacious and provided a lot of spark on a team that is lacking in that area. Richardson can shoot the 3 ball, but Barnes had a much better overall FG%.

Yeah, from what I know Barnes was one of their better defenders, and tougher players.

I think with Reddick, Q-Rich, and Rashard Lewis, and Vince Carter theyve got a very strong outside and 3pt shooting team there, which is key when they have to face Boston. Boston is maybe the best team at defending the paint and doesnt let you have easy baskets, but they essentially cant defend the perimeter and cant do anything about good outside shooters.

I know the number one reason the Magic lost was because of effort, but also Lewis and VC had terrible shooting. Assuming at least one of those guys is on-or Reddick starts in place of Vince like he should have this year- and Q-Rich does well, the Celts are toast. Other than Reddick, all of the Magic`s best outside shooters had a bad series.

Orlando hasn`t fixed their ability to raise performance when the games matter more, or their lack of toughness-and losing Barnes made it worse- but they may have just added enough firepower that it wont matter. They are stacked.

Oh shit…we actually got Barnes. LOL

T, took the survey last night. That was well put together. Y’all hear Jordan diss James’ move to South Beach? he said in not so many words that James is a pussy for doing it. Awesome.
this cracked me up,
bird mj and magic were never friends
their contracts never expired at the same time
they weren’t part of the same draft class
larry and magic had already won
bosh isn’t comparable to magic or larry
Dude, you are so fucking gay for Lebron it’s not even funny. Go read fucking Yahoo Sports, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated. They all say Lebron took the easy way out. The only one who doesn’t see this is your millenial fucking retarded brain. Magic, Larry and MJ were “friends”. Friends in the 80s and 90s meant I respected you off the court but I wanted to kill you on the court. Not this millenial “let’s everyone be friends” gayness that happens these days. Give it a rest butt plugger.
Now Rand I do not share your homo feelings for athletes. Besides LBJ isn’t even one of my top ten players, in fact I own a Kobe shirt and like his game more. It’s sad you would let your feelings for another man cloud basic logic but it’s ok. Just remeber he’s married.

Preciate ya Flash, thank you for taking the survey.

Yeah I hear the MJ comments. I think MJ pretty much said what everyone else is scared of saying. In public at least.

Any updates on Jeremy Lin? Is there a chance he’ll be in the NBA next year? Dude would have a quite a following with Asian-Americans.
Dude, this cat is LEGIT. My brother saw him play in person last year, and I happen to catch a game of his on TV. This kid has game. J-Lin was Bay Area player of the year his senior year, but no scholarship offers, only walk-on opportunities at Pac-10 schools. Took him game to Harvard and did his business.

Word is that he is in serious talks with DAL for a contract. He did well at Summer League (and held his own against John Wall) to earn him some well-deserved buzz. I think this will be good insurance to sign him if Beaubois doesn’t pan out to be a leader on the floor.

49ers all the way!! This is our year!

We should totally make these threads a year-round sports thread.
LarryDavid wrote:

Just read about it. Solid. Should be a good fit.

Although he reminds me of Drew Gooden in the sense that he’s a good player no one seems to want. TOR will be his 8th team in 7 yrs. I think he’ll work out well for the Raps.

what the H is going on here?

A Lakers fan and a Patriots fan?

A Thunder Fan and a Niners fan?

What is the world coming to?

I bet next you guys are gonna say your favorite college football teams are Florida State and Michigan?

Alright greg, your turn. A Lakers fan and a ______________ fan? (fill in the blank)

LA Lakers
San Fancisco 49ers
USC Trojans
and San Diego Chargers… (its ok to have two favorite NFL teams because they’re in different Conferences)

San Fran was my first team when I started watching football when I was 9 and when I moved to SD I started to follow the Chargers. So since I live here and go to games every year SD has become a favorite team of mine… but the 49ers are still my favorite NFL team

What a fricken Socialist.

I’m not sure if Orlando will match TO’s offer for Barnes, they said something on TSN but I missed it.

Kobe Bryant Deadlocks Tiger Woods as America’s Favorite Sports Star
NEW YORK (AP) – Tiger Woods has dropped into a tie with Kobe Bryant as the favorite American sports star.

Woods had held the position alone since 2006, but the Los Angeles Lakers guard moved up from fourth last year to grab a share of the top spot, Harris Interactive said Tuesday.

LeBron James dropped from third to sixth in the company’s survey of 2,227 adults conducted online from June 14-21, before he left Cleveland to sign with Miami. Retired NBA star Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh.

Yankees captain Derek Jeter moved up one spot to third and quarterback Brett Favre went from ninth to fourth. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning was fifth, up from seventh.

New England quarterback Tom Brady, who failed to make the top 10 last year, returned at No. 8, followed by New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Jr.

NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon and St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols dropped out of the top 10.

Among female athletes, sisters Serena and Venus Williams were 1-2, followed by race car driver Danica Patrick, retired soccer star Mia Hamm and tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova.

Volleyball player Misty May-Treanor was tied for seventh with gymnast Shawn Johnson, basketball player Lisa Leslie was ninth, and retired tennis players Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova were tied for 10th.

Dropping out of the top 10 were basketball’s Candace Parker, golfer Annika Sorenstam, former tennis star Chris Evert and skater Michelle Kwan.
Guess that goes to show you how important winning [and banging white women] is. While I think Tiger’s conquest of the past year outweigh Kobe’s, I’m still impressed at how much his popularity has bounced back from it’s low in the middle of the 00s.

Toronto was the biggest loser.
