And about the triple double, LeBron could easily average 10 APG running Miami’s offense, so if he can manage 10 RPG it’s a definite possibility. That’s always been one of his goals, along with a ring and being a billionaire athlete. But it’s gonna be hard for him to get that third one without divorcing Tiger Woods.
say James averages 18, 10, and 12 over 80 games and MIA gets the 1 or 2 seed? don’t they have to give him MVP again? what about 16, 10, 14 over 82 games?
Not outrageous to envision something like this unfolding…
There’s two ways to look at that. One: Larry Bird thought the triple double was the most useless “stat” in basketball. He said he could do it every night if that’s what he focused on, but that’s not what his team needed. Two: No one in the modern era has done it. Jordan came close a couple of times, James has come close a couple of times, and Grant Hill almost did it as well. That fact alone would sway a lot of voters, kinda like James chase down blocks swayed the voters to put him on the all defensive team despite the fact that he’s an average at best man defender. I seriously doubt he gets a triple double for the season either way. Despite his size he’s not known to mix it up. I can see him at 22, 10 & 8.
Rebounds will probably be the thing that holds him back if he doesnt get a triple-double, but if he does or gets close enough he will be an MVP candidate for sure. But unlike the last two years, hes not the clear-cut favourite.
He could easily lose to Durant or Kobe at this point, even if he averages a triple double–assuming the Lakers get the first or second best regular season record, or the Thunder make it to the top 4 in the west. Even though most fans put too much weight on stats, I`m more confident in the writers and others who vote on the MVP award.
