is that a serious question?

kid let D. Williams go off last night. he still had a decent night stat wise but elite PG’s in the league must be able to guard other elite pg’s in the league. in varsity high school basketball in some parts of the country, the pg must be competent enough to walk the ball up the court and make the first entry pass. in the nba, you’re expected to be able to pressure the ball (if you’re elite).

and sorry, if he can’t defend now, it’s not something that will drastically improve at this point in his career.

again, i didn’t watch the game, but i’m reading about this defense problem. “did not defend williams” - NY POST

Dude, why don’t you just tune into a single NYK game?

Cause I’m a JLin hater (kidding)

Unrelatedly rajraj, I was in your town this past weekend for a family wedding. Reception was at that Atlantis spot (sweet venue, views) and downright decent weather throughout, good times…

some would argue that those 2004? rule changes (ie. outlawing hand-checks on the perimeter) have made it impossible to guard the truly elite PGs

and they would likely be correct when they cite this latest golden-era of PGs as evidence

That’s pretty cool. I just googled the building. You can’t go wrong with a facility off the lake.

Although I’m sure you had fun, next time you visit the folks who live here, try to plan it for the summer if possible of course.

The city comes alive in the summer, almost feel a night and day difference.

BTW one thing you all have to keep in mind when talking about all-star appearances is the ridiculously high level of talent at PG around the league right now. There are 10-15 guys who could be top3 or top5 PGs 10yrs ago.

In other words, saying Lin is a top 5 pg means you think he’s better than three guys out of Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Westbrook, Nash, Parker, and D-Will. Not to mention Kyrie Irving is going bonkers as a rookie (speaking of doing it with NO talent on your team) and could join that group soon.

Anyway yeah I’m tired of talking about Lin. He scores a lot of points, gets a lot of assists setting up teammates and turns the ball over like he gets paid for it.

OK one stat I can’t resist posting. I was farting around on basketball-reference’s streak index. In the last 26 years (only goes back to 86-87) no one had ever turned the ball over 6 times more than 5 games in a row (about 4 or 5 guys had done it 5 games in a row). Lin did it six straight times in starts number 3-8. So it took him a total of 8 games starting to accomplish the longest streak of games with 6+ turnovers in 25 years.

trololol

rule changes definitely are a factor. impossible? no. very difficult? yes. but the fact is, most NBA guards can get their shot one on one whenever they want; factor in the new era of the “shooting PG” and you get what you have now.

D-Will scored like 3 3-pointers on Lin in the first half off of high ball screens. In the second half they put JR on him. He was hot from 3 - saying he scored 38 because Lin couldn’t defend him is a half truth at the maximum.

Lin only had 3 TOs last last, which shows how easy it is to fix that line on the stat sheet.

Bottom-line is that he can ball fo’ real. Ya digg?

NO one disagrees with that.

Yep but I felt like sounding black.

I think we know the real reason you don’t watch pro ball anymore.

yea, why wouldn’t it be? o.O since you mentioned you played pro before, you must be have had/have skills! (:

i’m actually trying to get into my university team.(although sports in singapore actually…sucks. alot more emphasis on education. i believe most good college teams could destroy our national team ): but i still love the game!) maybe something you felt helped you most? shooting, ball handling etc.

skill work is very important - see “10,000 hour rule”. if tremendously talented pro players are hoisting 500 jumpers a day, what is your excuse? fix any mechanical flaws before embarking on that work. same with ball handling - do the the variety of drills, they work. basketball IQ is important - how to set picks/screens, spacing, where you should be on the court etc. (fundamentals). And the biggest? ALWAYS PLAY WITH AND AGAINST THE BEST COMPETITION YOU CAN FIND. work on quickness and physical factors to within your genetic limits. become a student of your position and learn how to play it.

I often talk about how many bad defensive point guards there are these days, but I wonder how much of that perception is really because of that rule change.

This is your monthly reminder that Michael Jordan once averaged 37ppg in a season that allowed hand checking.

Yes, no one who’s fixed a problem for one game has ever reverted to their previous norm after that single game.

edit: Like when Calderon fixed his problem with scoring by putting up 30 and now he does it every night.

I think I figured out why everyone focuses in on my comments w/ respect to Lin and not yours. It’s the avatar.
