Well, leftists have identified Nazi’s as Alt-Right to associate them with conservatism to demonize the right. It’s all fair play. I blame twitter.
It’s more that I’m selfish and put more stock into things that effect me or my loved ones than I do what impacts the rest of society.
I’m also a realist. So things like single payer aren’t a libertarian/authoritarian topic anymore. It’s a long term only option to stem increased costs
Then given the impact of the anti gay marriage movement vs the gay baker movement, you should probably lean left on this one.
Actual, real change is ugly, dirty work. It takes someone willing to go out on thin limbs to achieve it. Obama ran on change, but he was pretty much the same as everybody else. He was a Democrat president who did democrat things.
Trump is actually changing things. You may like him or hate him. But he is changing things.
Basically, if nobody is too pissed off, your not changing much. If everybody is pissed off at somebody, things are changing. Why? Because change is hard and it makes people uncomfortable.
Given how Shapiro was treated by the alt right when he left Breitbart, the lefties might have a point.
Fascinating!
Thanks, @Jewbacca!
It also is interesting how close of us all in this Forum. Many more “Libertarian-Like?”
(I was close to JB and USMC…about 1 block to the right of center…)
Change isn’t inherently good due to change. Hitler changed things. As did ghandi. Change as a concept is useless
I was thriving in Obama’s America, mostly because I’m not an idiot. Just because I’m also thriving in Trump’s America doesn’t mean any of the change has benefitted me.
What exactly has Trump changed?
My contribution.

I didn’t mention whether or not it’s a good thing. Just recognizing it for what it is. Whether or not these are good things will be judged by history.
People always say they want change. What they really want is a leg up on everybody else. Nobody wants real change.
Go ahead and make a major change to your life. Like quit your job and setup a business. It’s a change. it may be good it may not be, but it will be is really, really hard.
It’d be fascinating to get the scores of the Congress and POTUS.
I guess I don’t understand the intent of the comment then? Had I signaled that change was easy or something of that nature?
I like this one.
No, I was making an observation, not arguing a point. Just taking a step back from the national conversation and try to look at everything as a whole.
Everything is so noisy because things are changing. And the left has lost it’s ever-loving mind cause of it. I mean look at the conversations coming out of the left. Impeach, get rid of ICE, it’s ok to be socialist, one-payer healthcare… And my favorite “I am 1:1024 native american!”
My guess is we all are that. It’s so dumb… Why is the whitest woman in the U.S. claiming she’s native? She’s got more monkey than Native American in her…lol
No, I lean non-authoritarian. The baker can do what he wants. Gays can do what they want.
In fact, I’m opposed to any government involvement in marriage. It’s a religious rite and a contract between two people. Government has little or not business regarding it.
It’s a financial contract between two people too. That’s why the government is involved. There is money there.
Sure, to the extent governments need to be involved in any given contract (e.g., to enforce the provisions by judgment).
But otherwise, no.
What exactly is changing? Apart from the corporate tax rate?
Probably for the same reason the richest guy in DC claims he’s self made. All about the ego.
So given the GOP was anti gay marriage (authoritarian over gays) and the Dems are anti gay baker (you know what I mean) that shakes out to you lean towards the GOP?
Controlling people’s lives is bipartisan as hell
Let’s see, ISIS is all but gone, Iran deal is gone, China is reeling over tariffs, NAFTA has been replaced, there has been a tax cut, immigration enforcement is up, the supreme court has changed, the economy is surging, North Korea is currently less of a threat, there is war in Yemen that hardly anybody talks about, etc, etc, etc… Just listing things off the top of my head, not a complete list. And not saying it’s good or bad just different than it was.
Is someone controlling your life?
Yes, but at least the GOP has some elements in it that are non-authoritarian (e.g., cutting regulation), limiting gun control, etc.
The current Democrats are socialists and want to control the means of production, wealth, personal beliefs, what you teach your kids, how your raise your children, etc. They are far more authoritarian – “you think like us, or we crush you.”
A lot of Republicans are like that to, but much less so.
When I was growing up, Israel was more-or-less socialist. It sucked. Every aspect of your life was controlled. It’s why I went to MIT for school; I was seriously considering bailing.
