I’m at my wit’s end and could really use some advice.

Anyone else here had to deal with anything like this…and found a cause/solution for it?

Hey last1, hang in there

I’ll respectfully disagree with Dr.PowerClean’s recommendation’s for such an overly expensive work up at this stage. I’m not saying he’s wrong and I’m right, just that we have different philosophies. Most importantly - listen to your own doctor. You’re symptoms, while frustrating, are extremely common and shouldn’t get you too worked up at this point.

Go Orange, I’m glad to see another doc here and have no problem with dissenting opinions from mine. Except for one thing…DID YOU READ HIS OP? He said his doctor was NOT listening to him anymore and kept only telling him to decrease the intensity. And this was not working after TWO years of last 1 being patient. The man is having exercise induced syncope, or something very similar, even if it is hopefully a mild case with correctible etiology. You casually mention a second opinion, but understating the importance of this while emphasizing conservative measures is only doing this gentleman a disservice.
I truly wish I was wrong on this one. Would you take this risk with your loved ones, recommending only more conservative measures in the face of a potentially serious problem? Doc

Thanks to everyone who has taken time to respond. I heard once that the true measure of a man is in how he treats people who can do absolutely nothing for him, and I really appreciate the fact that people here that don’t know me at all actually seem to give a damn about my problem.

So far… I took the advice of Dr. PC, Dawg, Bushi, and others, and “changed docs”, going with a recommendation from a local trainer. New doc seemed to take my situation a LOT more seriously than my old one. Results from the first round of blood tests showed that I’m hypoglycemic (plasma glucose level 44 mg/dl after 15 hr. fast), and he’s referred me to an endocrinologist now to find the underlying cause. Actually, this explains a lot of things (fatigue, “shakes”, headache, etc.) that up until now I’ve passed off as unavoidable “post workout” stuff.

New doc was also pretty thorough about making me understand that this kind of thing lead to problems a lot more serious that just embarrassing myself at the gym. Again, thanks to everyone here who kicked me in the ass and convinced me to get some answers.

last1: thanks for the update. I’m glad you’ve got a good doc and a reasonable explanation. I was wondering whatever happened.

Good luck with the endocrinologist. Hope this becomes a very manageable situation for you.

Well, it looks a bit late to post up now, but when I was having these issues (extreme nausea & “the sparkles”, but never a full-on faint) it was all related to my glucose levels, manifesting itself more if I did large muscle exercises (squats and leg presses in particular) too far into my workout for that day (having burned up too much of my “available fuel”)

I also have a history of low BP when a teen (I fainted several times getting off the couch to change the TV channel!) and have a 37" inseam (of my just-shy-of 6’3" height) so my legs consume a lot of my available hydraulics

@ L1S: glad you got that sorted, I’m sure they’ll get you fixed. Heck, you might find results with some sensible dietary changes. Good luck.

For a newb to the board I have to say the response in this thread was impressive. Think I’m gonna like it here…
