Name Your Gym

24hr Fitness Ultra Sport
Irvine, CA

I get a free membership since I work there. The biggest thing I dislike about this particular 24hr fitness is that they have a platform and bumper plates but its in storage since no one really used it. It kills me knowing its in the building but I can’t use it.

Its weird seeing that people on here live in the area for some reason.

24hr fitness - Salem, Oregon

I have an EliteFTS SOYG package and a GHR in my basement, plus an extra sled and a 24kg kettlebell that I take with me when I’m overseas. Right now I use a gym on camp that’s mostly garbage but it has a halfway decent power rack and a squat rack that must have been snuck in by a fellow powerlifter.

The dumbbells only go to 100 lb which me and my lifting buddy use the shit out of. They even have a couple of crap 45 degree back raises that people like to use as a place to hang towels until I throw their towels over the wall into the swiss ball area.

Lots of bicep machines and Hammer Strength machines to hang my towels on, though. The various bench presses are wobbly and they add a new dimension to the interesting mishaps for the people who like to lift without collars and spotters.

The new manager is pretty cool and knows what he’s talking about. He is working on getting rid of all the crap and installing new useful equipment, as well as run his 1000 lb club list and personal oversight for those who need s good program. Great guy!

Just keep telling your manager that you keep getting requests for that equipment. Maybe if you tell him enough times he’ll let you bring it back out.

I’m not a fan of either gym, but they are close and relatively cheap. Each has it’s plusses and minuses. (mostly minuses)

I started at the old Gold’s Gym in Middletown,Ct (DAMN I miss that place)

You are not too far from me (and I have worked out at the WoW of which you speak… machines too crowded together).

I work out at LA Fitness in South Windsor, CT. It’s not ideal, but not bad. I can use chalk (technically not supposed to, but a bunch of people do it and I have never seen management say a darn thing when they see it), deadlift, etc. Plus it is nice to have the hoops court when I just want to get in a run.

WoW is down the street from the rink I skate out of.

I lift at Gold’s in East Hartford. There’s a sweet powerlifting room in the basement, and that’s the only place I train.

The Dungeon! That’s one of Cressey’s favorite places and I have lifted there just one time (although I am tempted to figure out a way to get in there more often).
Yeah I think there’s really only one real powerlifter who lifts there. And I haven’t actually seen him. He just has this closet full of bands, chains, kettlebells, and a grappler with his name on it.

I don’t need any of that stuff now luckily, because I’d be way too afraid he’s some huge giant guy who’s going to come in and smash my face up if I touch anything! Not that I’d be uncool enough to use someone else’s gear without asking either.

I’ve been a member at 5 gyms in my days.

The best one BY FAR is the new facilities at Rochester Institute of Technology.

I know its weird to think that a “tech school” has a nice gym.

But they went top shelf on this place; its amazing.

I have yet to see a place with as much useful equipment and size to date.
Represent RIT Weighlifting! We have a better gym than the local World Gym, Golds gym, and all those other ‘fitness centers,’ (I’ve been to them all) Its really amazing and I’m proud to say I was literally the first person to train in it, did some pull ups after moving in and setting up all the equipment!
