It seems that blended food is one of the hallmarks of weightlifters. I have never really thought that I needed a blender, because after all, protein powder mixes with a spoon.
I finally got the bright idea that I would try blending stuff.
So I went to wal-mart and got me one of those single serving travel blenders. (Like Mr. Shugart talked about). I put in some milk, peanut butter, oats, and berries for a breakfast shake. The first day, it smoked a bit. The second day the damn thing smoked and then quit working.
So I took the thing back. And I went down the blender aisle again. There were more single serving travel blenders. For 10.00. I passed, after all, mine quit working on second use. Then there was a slightly bigger blender. A “durabrand” meaning crappy wal-mart trash. I passed. Then there was the 19.99 hamilton beach blender. I thought real hard, but after all, a blender is a big investment, so the cheapest model may not be the best. I finally made my way to the big, glass (not plastic trash) 12 speed hamilton beach with some sort of WAVE system to drag the stuff on top to the bottom. All that for 30.00. I snatched it up. And this morning, I am having me a nice breakfast from it.
Barney’s breakfast-
1 serving blueberries.
3 apples
2 cups oats.
1 scoop protein powder.
2 cups milk.
Several spoonfuls of peanut butter.
This made a lot. So I may have to have two breakfasts, one after class and one before, or split it up over two days.
If any of you all have good recipes, please tell me.
Two questions- I use the cheapest peanut butter I can find. Is this ok? (limited budget, college student)
Secondly- I thought about either dumping a bit of broccoli in there, or maybe buying some spinach, and tossing a couple of leafs in. Will the other ingredients mask the taste?
