My New Tattoo

Just my advice to all you BAC’s out here in T-Nation-land trying to impart wisdom to the muscle-building masses:

Proverbs 26:4-5

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.

Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Read it, learn it, live it.

There are a # of individuals out here who really can’t fully understand the Word of God (not because they’re dumb) but rather because of the current nature of their spirit; the WOG is foolishness to them.

Think back; remember how obtuse the Bible seemed to you BEFORE you were born again?

Additionally, they really are not ‘seeking’ anything; other than a sense of knowing that they were able to send another ‘stupid christian’ down a logical rabbit trail, to endlessly debate an issue they know nothing about!

Speak to them in love, as Miss “JPBear” has done, but don’t engage them - To do so would be contrary to scripture (see above).

Having said all that, if they truely want to know, they’ll probably PM you, not flame you in a public forum.

As for the pro / anti tatoo debate; I must admit, for a number of years I was (past-tense!) of the Levitical law mindset. But, I have come to understand that the over-arching purpose of Leviticus was NOT to give the Jews a list of instructions / does and don’ts for achieving personal purity, but rather to detail how insermountable the task is of being holy, pure, blameless, and acceptable before the Lord. To make the followers of the Creator God say “It’s too much! I can’t possibly do ALL this!” This would then allow God to say “Exactly, that’s why you need me to do it for you.”

Just my $0.02 -

MIKE

P.S. - As for the “wicked piercings” line - all I can say to that is “Ouch!”

Here is a close up of the picture taken yesterday. It is a brand new tattoo so the outer layer of skin is still flaking off. Today the u is much clearer than it was yesterday. I am not going to take a new picture though because I know that you don’t care, you are just trying to discourage me.
I know you’ve been through some rough times and that this whole Jesus/God/Bible thing is helping you through it.

I don’t want to diminish what you’ve accomplished so far.

But to me, it just seems like you went from being drunk on alcohol to being drunk on Jesus. A little moderation might be advisable.

But I’m not you, and I’ve never had the kinds of problem you’ve been writing about… So whatever works for you. If a “Jesas” tattoo makes you happy, go for it.

I am not trying to cause trouble with this, but I only ask out of genuine curiosity. I just want to know how people decide what parts of the bible are relevant and which are not.
Because people always think the rules should apply to other people but not to them. It’s human nature.

Notice how car drivers react when someone goes speeding by. Swear words, “never a cop when you need’em”, etc.

When they’re speeding, though, that’s ok, because they have a good reason.

It the same with the Bible. It’s a lot easier to spot people who are doing something wrong than to live your own life according to it. It doesn’t matter the source of the rules, laws or directives, everyone does that.

Why does it bother you so much?

Probably the same reason it bothers me that I can’t read a fuckin thread around here without seeing another goddamn Bible quote.

On the other hand, nice tattoo. When you getting another one? It gets addictive

This is actually my second one. I got one on my ankle when I was 13 but I hate it now. I think people should wait until they are adults until they decide to permanently etch something on their skin.

I am going to get my husband’s name inside a heart probably on my lower back once I am finished loosing my pregnancy weight. (I have 15 more lbs to go.) He has had my name across his ring finger so I would like to get his name.

I’d hate to see you do that…I’ve seen far too many people with former significant other’s names engraved on them…

Get your kid’s name instead…never a spouse.

Q. What is the difference between jesus and a picture of jesus?

A. you can hang a picture with one nail.

Well, God knows I laughed at that, so I may as well admit it.

Such a lovely christian way to make a quick judgement of a persons character and desires.

I apologise for posting my question in the public forum, I guess it is wrong to assume that others may have the same questions and a desire to increase their knowledge.

I will from now on only use PM’s (as I have used, particularly in relation to religious matters) and ensure that someone else who may be questioning the same thing does not have the benefit or viewing the thread.

JP, I truly am sorry for hijacking the thread. No more posts from me on this one.

In JPB’s case I’d say it’s a powerful statement. Not everyone endures a failed marriage you know.

I hear you. But its just one of the cardinal laws of the tattoo community…the only names you get tattooed on you are dead friends and kids. Because relationships can turn at any time.

Hi all, just wanted to show off my new tattoo that I got yesterday. I think it turned out beautifully!
Are those tear drops on the Hs or just extra loops?

The quoted verse from Lev. was intended to separate Israel from its Canaanite neighbors; some believe that the cuttings in the flesh and tattoo marks to which the verse refers were part of idolatrous Canaanite worship.

The context of the verse favors this interpretation. The preceding verse reads, “You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard” (Lev. 19:27). Most of us don’t seem to have a problem with this.

The key is what the tatto is… I may not be a scholar, but I don’t think that her tat is of pagan idolatry.

Obviously you haven’t even read the thread, or its over your head. Either way go read up, and you’ll understand.

I’ve read the thread. I’ve read the bible, the koran and quite a bit about buddhism. Religion is quite fascinating but I read “with an open mind”.

Regarding faith, yes, I have it but in myself. If there’s a god (s)he will help those who help themselves.

But to each his own, if you’re happy believing in something…be my guest.

Because having a typo on your back for the rest of your life sucks?
