My New Tattoo

Can’t say I didn’t think of the Leviticus verse…but good thing I don’t judge people quite that much.

What verse is the ‘set free from the law’ quote? Because I kind of want a tattoo and was afraid of what I’d read in Leviticus.[/quote]

I can’t point out one verse because it is all through the New Testament. Maybe some other Christian can help me out here?

I got a tattoo too,it has a goats head with a star around it…

Leviticus 19:28

Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

He also said something about not judging others… be a sport and quote that verse for me as I’m sure you’ve memorized it.

Why thank you for pointing that out sic. There are many verses which say this but here is my favorite:

“Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” - Romans 14:4

Just wanted to make sure someone new to the Word out there who heard you say “freed from the Law” didn’t take it as a blanket justification to ignore the law and begin doing things contrary to scripture just because it was spoken of in the Old Testament. People who are new to the faith are prone to many influences, and it just scares me what they might think about things sometimes.

JP, nice tatt.

Sorry to deviate from the intent of the thread but JP I dont think that you will mind my question, but if so please just ignore it.

I am curious as to how christians decide which of the laws and directions given in the bible they choose to follow and live by. I am aware of the previous posts made regarding being set free from the laws in the Old Testament, but I remember some time ago when I was in a church service having a discussion with one of my female friends regarding another friend of mine who is gay.

This female friend of mine was saying that homosexuality is wrong because the bible says so in both the old testament and is then repeated in the new testament, however, when I questioned this female friend of mine as to why she did not follow the directions of 1 Corinthians 14:34 which forbids women from speaking in church she did not have an answer.

I am not trying to cause trouble with this, but I only ask out of genuine curiosity. I just want to know how people decide what parts of the bible are relevant and which are not.

Can’t speak for all Christians, but I believe the term for Catholics is “Cafeteria Catholicism.”

Wow. JP, Modok, and others sure do seem to know Bible. It’s quite surprising, and actually cool to see that other’s are knowledgeable. It’s often quite disheartening to see how ignorant many “Christians” are when it comes to the Bible. I definitely agree with taking the Bible as a whole, rather than picking and choosing verses out of context. Two thumbs up!

I could care less about the Christian end of it. As for the tattoo, nicely done. I like the script. Of course. people will always be sidleing up to get close enough to see what it says…

Pretty shoulders, too.

did jesus have a tatoo?

Indeed!

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s law. I have learned a great deal, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than
homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Jesas is the way?

Who’s “Jesas?”

I wasn’t sure about the “a”, but after zooming in the image and comparing with the “u” in “truth” and the “a” in way, it’s definitely written “Jesas.”

Nothing a little Liquid Paper can’t fix, though.

LOL, no offence to JP I’ll never knock faith but that was good.

Here is a close up of the picture taken yesterday. It is a brand new tattoo so the outer layer of skin is still flaking off. Today the u is much clearer than it was yesterday. I am not going to take a new picture though because I know that you don’t care, you are just trying to discourage me.

from what I understand alot of the Old Testament stuff(like the beard trimming and the burnt offerings) were negated when Jesus died on the cross and the veil in the temple was torn in two(symbolizing that the separation between God and man).

Now we can pray directly to God without having to go through another Holy man. Alot of the stuff in the OT is no longer applicable but some stuff is, like the 10 Commandments, and other basic doctrines. It confuses me. I don’t know if I have made any sense.

Also from what I understand, not only did jesus close the gap between man and god by his sacrifice. Also the book of Leviticus as a whole is looked at as the prophecy of the coming of the messiah. Jews still hold to the book of leviticus being laws. While christians believe that leviticus was written to precede the cruxifiction, after the death of Jesus the book of Leviticus was nullified, and then superceded by the book of Hebrews.

Sweet, I kinda did make sense then.
