My Kids Will NOT Be Attending College

This is a bit of a strawman, don’t you think?

I have met a couple of people who are nearly this reactionary. What they don’t realize, in general, is that their kids will leave at 18 and get student loans, and will simply never speak to their parents again. I can understand a parent who tells his child from a young age that he must do well enough in school that he will get a scholarship.

On the other hand, I have a friend who got a 4.5 in HS, a 1600 SAT (old scale), and “only” a partial scholarship to either Harvard or Princeton. His parents, though well off, would not pay for it. They told him to go to the state university, from which he received a full scholarship. To me, that’s unconscionable, since he did his job based on their promise of support, and they then renigged. And that, I think, is the main difference: promising your children one thing, and then capriciously changing your mind when it ceases to be convenient. Somehow, I don’t think that teaches virtue.

I am very sympathetic to parents who feel that our society makes it very difficult to raise children with virtue. However, I tend to agree with John Stuart Mill: Yes, parents and society should be able to try to mold our minds and habits… and they have until we are 18 years old to do it. Of course, that doesn’t obligate parents to pay for their children’s college education.

Well, that article really changed my perspective on things. I’m going to become Amish. Anyone know where I can get a good horse and buggy?

This is not true, adequacy.org is a highly intellectual website providing “news for grown ups”.

This is a very interesting article, when I have children, they will, God willing, be working in the industrial sector, for an honest living.

I reccommend a private Christian college to anyone who wants to learn without being corrupted by the evil of the secular society.

Admit it, college is places where young people swap nacrotics, MP3s, pornography magazines such as FHM and occasionally STD.

How much do you love your children?

I feel sorry for your kids.

To a certain extent, been there.

That’s just it - you need to give your kids the tools to cope with the real world. You cannot protect them forever. The real world is filled with assholes and idiots. Deal with it.

Is there anything wrong with that? As long as you’re open minded I see nothing wrong with bashing America.

No, you didn’t. you didn’t just call it BJ U. That made me laugh so hard my spleen hurts. More girls should go there.

Btw, when I went to college, I didn’t swap narcotics, we didn’t have MP3s, and I didn’t pick up any STDs. As for porn, I was swapping that in 7th grade.

As for the fundamental religious side of things,I have heard several crazy raunchy stories about Church camp from a friend of mine, who was the son of a Southern Baptist pastor. He couldn’t wait to go to camp each summer because he got more action there in a few weeks than he did all year in the public school system. No wonder they’re screaming “Praise the Lord” all over the place.

I admit, I didn’t get this until I was driving around an hour after reading it, thinking about some of the other posts that Fahd had written.

In my defense, with all the tinfoil slliness about vaccines and intelligent design that’s been littering this site lately, it could be true.

But, the fact remains: I’m not that bright.

DB,

I’m glad to hear from you and can you please pass a message from me to your friend about Christian™ Dating?

As a fellow believer, I have a few tips about Christian™ dating I’d like to pass on:

  1. Question her faith. Make sure she knows the exact date/time she met Jesus.

  2. Ask her whether she loves you as much as she loves Jesus. If the answer is yes, stop the date and tell her to fuck off in a polite way.

  3. Recite verses during the date. Preferably from the OT.

  4. Pray to God after the date, refuse any thoughts of masturbation. If you do, keep your mind on Jesus instead of her.

Good luck and wish your friend have fun in his next Church camp!!!

I love Christian Girls,

Fahd

That was “Christian” in you that wrote that, huh?[/quote]

No, it was the person in me who is tired of you thinking you are perfect! You bring out the imperfect human being in most people, at least around here.

Sorry, all out!

Just sold my last one to a guy who wanted to buy food by the wagon load. Something about being belittled by some egotist on a training site…

Good article. As said before, there are some crazies out there who think like this. But you can count on that whole, “Youthful rebellion” stuff to make sure that this doesn’t continue.

Although there is always that Jerry Falwell/Pat Robertson that slips through the cracks.

I just wanted to put this in bold for all to read. Part of my distrust of organized religion (and I include ALL organized religion, not any particular denomination or belief system) is that I think too many of the so called “faithful” are nothing but lying hypocrits. I’m not saying everyone is like this, and it may very well be that the majority are sincere about their beliefs. But I think it’s more like 50-50.

I don’t think he’ll be going to any more camps - he’s 40 and has been married for 10 years now.

As for quoting the OT on a date - that’s just freaky.

And you suggest that you think about Jesus when masturbating??? We’re getting into Waco territory with that one.

What do you suggest is the best way to impart “fuck off” - burn her to cleanse her soul?J/K.

Btw, the whole point of my post was to detail how ridiculous it is to segregate students from the real world when it is exactly this world that they are supposed to be learning about in college. Even the Amish allow their teenagers a chance to experience the world outside of their faith for a time before re-committing themselves to live in their communities. I think if you look broadly at Christ’s teachings, he did not subscribe to segregation from the greater world.

I don’t think you can blame organized religion for this phenomenon. I think organized religion is representative of the greater population as a whole and that there are an equal number of hypocrites who practice no religion.

LOL.

I must visit this mp3 swapping college sometime, I could use a couple new albums …

This is a little off-topic, but I just got a mid-term grade back today and I FAILED my first test ever in 3 years of college. The class average was 35 points out of 80, so it sounds like a good majority of the class failed as well. Is there any sense to this?

The Uni I’m attending (Caridff University) set a policy of treating anything above 40% a pass.

That was off topic too,

Fahd
