My Grocery Store

Okay - this is slightly off topic - but with the importanct of eating correcty I thought I would bring this up. My grocery store sucks. Period. Everything in the place is processed to shit and is designed to hook little kids and make them into fat adults. They dont even bother with anything remotely healthy (well, there are a few things that I can find if I dig but its a chore). I went a week ago and bought the last can of tuna - well I went again yesterday and they had still not restocked the shelf - whats with that??, (and get this - somehow their tuna has carbs in it - is that possible?). I know what you are thinking - FIND ANOTHER STORE STUPID!!!! One little problem - no car - my means of transport is my bicycle and the next nearest store is about 30mins away - you try cycling that far with $100 worth of food on your back - and dont forget not to crush the apples or spill the milk. Anyways thanks for listening to me complain - just one more thing - since when is chicken breast $14 a kilogram - I`m gonna have to find another job soon.

take a cab, stock up.

Id like to stock up only problem is I share a fridge with another person so I really dont have room - and the only freezer we have is the one on the fridge - small. Thanks for the idea though - I guess I just needed to complain a bit.

Since when do you need to refrigerate canned tuna or salmon. Stock up on non perishables and take ti from there. Oatmeal, beans, potatos, canned tuna/salmon/turkey, unopened mayo and many other sauces. Go to a Costco’s or Sam’s club and get a shitload of stuff and store it in the attic or basement and uncover the stuff when you need to. Improvise man, improvise.

Dayum you may as well live in Afghanistan.

Are you sure you’re going to the “grocery store” and not the local 7-11? Either you’re going down the wrong aisles or you’re not thinking of something. Grocery stores sell plenty of good things: Canned tuna, lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, nuts, beef jerky, etc). You’re telling me that you can’t find any of that there?

$14.00 for a kilogram of chicken, it sounds like you are living up in Canada with me, thats thew average price for skinless chicken breast up here.

Hey Darko - yep - Im up in Canada where chicken is expensive. And as for the rest of you guys.... My post was not an attempt to garner your sympathy. But apparently I must have sounded stupid or something because you all responded as if Im retarded.
Are you sure you're going to the "grocery store" and not the local 7-11? Either you're going down the wrong aisles or you're not thinking of something Thanks Nate Dogg but I think I can tell the difference between a 7-11 and a grocery store. I was just trying to get at the fact that there is a ton of shit being sold as food these days - and people are buying. I thought I was pretty clear that my post was just me complaining when I said Anyways thanks for listening to me complain... and I figured this would be enough to let the rest of you know not to take it to seriously, but aparently that one slipped by most of you.

Hey, you have to throw some humor in on things like this! heheh. But I thought you were actually talking about not finding good food in the store. Yes, I agree, people buy a lot of processed shit these days instead of real food. Crazy man, just crazy.

Beat this: average monthly salary = 420 US$. 1 kg skinless boneless chicken breasts = 6 US$.

I will beat it. you make an average of $420 US a month and chicken breast there is $6 US a kilo - this means you make enough to buy 70kg of chicken breast ($420/$6kg for a ratio of 70kg). I make $1000 Canadian a month which is equivalent to $640 US according to the Universal Currency Converter website. Chicken breast here is at $14.50 a kilo which is equivalent to $9.28 US at the same website. This makes my ratio $640/$9.28kg which equals 69kg rounded up. What does all this mean - it means that you make more than me in Canada, compared to the price of chicken; meaning that if you spent all your momey on chicken you could buy 70kg where as I could only buy 69kg. Sorry but I just had to show you that some of us are in a very similar position (but don`t get me wrong Sasa, there is no way that I should be complaining about anything in my life. I have things pretty good compared with some, its just that sometimes I seem to forget it).

Nate Dogg - I guess a bit of humor is probably needed here but I just didnt find it funny at the time I guess. Hope I didnt come across as to big of an asshole (cause the truth is I`m just a little bit of an asshole!!).

I’m not sure about chicken prices in the rest of Canada, but in most parts of Calgary it’s $14 or better / kilo. I went to visit my parents WAY (WAY WAY) up north in the NWT where everything is more expensive due to shipping costs. Boneless, skinless chicken breast was $12 / kilo!!

Can you say Chicken Cartel?

Chicken here in the United Arab Emirates is about the same, perhaps a little less than Canada. Turkey breast is $20 / kilo with fresh salmon steaks about the same price. Here’s the real kicker - canned tuna is (on average) $5 / can or more! And it’s all Thai stuff <remember the MM2K article about insect bits?>

On the plus side, if you know how to bargain, you can get BioTest supps at less than US retail - and I bought Nandrosol (no Andro here) for less than Androsol retail

I have a solution, eat more beef! Besides, it tastes better! I only eat chicken once or twice a week. The other days, I’m eating some sort of beef. I love it! Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.

I miss those days. Take a trip up to Canada, and even though beer is about twice as expensive, it comes out even. Not anymore.
