I picked a random article at bb.com to look at to see if all threads and people were retarded as people make them seem here, and I was actually pretty surprised. The people over there are even dumber than we make them seem here.
This is the first and only thread I’ve looked at on my own at bb.com and I’m not sure if I’ll ever look again:
This 5’9", 133 lb iron savvy lifter has been in the game for 3 years, but gosh darnit, can’t seem to gain any muscle no matter how much he eats!
Luckily, he has the help of a 38 year old 5’8", 138 lb bohemuth who understands what it was like to be in this kid’s shoes when he was younger. They sure are helpful over there.

I don’t understand why you are making fun of them. As far as advice goes, the 5’9 133lb old guy was telling the kid to eat more. In fact everyone on that thread was telling him to eat more. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HE NEEDS TO BE DOING. Or are you making fun of the fact that there are a lot more clueless newbies there than here?
When I first started getting into weightlifting, I too wanted to look like Brad Pitt. I thought bodybuilders were disgusting. But after a while of being with the weights, I realized just how much muscle I really wanted to gain. It didn’t take long for the ‘snowball effect’ to kick in, until now I just want to get as huge as my genetics will allow.
Why is it not possible to think that maybe these 140lbs soaking wet teenagers want to look like Brad Pitt because their T-levels are still ripening and that they really haven’t felt what it’s like to pack some muscle on their frame? Do we need to dismiss these guys just because they currently have trivial goals? Goals develop and change, just as people change.
I am not supporting BB.com. There are a lot of ignorant shits there. But I don’t like it when someone makes fun of a kid who WANTS to put on muscle (like the guy on that thread), but doesn’t understand how.
It’s ridiculous because the kid said he’s been lifting for three years and he’s 130 lbs. He said he can’t gain weight but “thought” he was eating between 3000-4000 cals a day. Then another 130 lb guy gave him advice on how to gain weight.
My original point was that I thought that what happens on BB.com was exaggerated around here, but when I finally went there this was the first and only thread I clicked on. A 130 lb kid lifting for three years getting advice from another 130 pounder who “understands what it was like” to be in the kid’s shoes giving him weight gaining advice.
Sure the kid needs to eat, but it struck me as a bit odd how people who are barely 5 pounds heavier are telling him that.

Well, people like that are what that site attracts in majority. I doubt too many more serious lifters are rushing to post on that website. The same will happen here eventually if we keep watering down the “hardcore”.[/quote]
I’ve had nothing to do for the past two days since I’m on break, and I’ve been reading a lot of old threads from this site. Threads usually dated pre-2006. What I’ve noticed is that this site used to be a lot different, more of the ideal hardcore bodybuilding/lifting website.
People used to post their woes, and if the questions weren’t TOO dumb, they’d get help and encouragement. We also used to have intelligent debates and people would take other people’s advice on certain things, not it’s become more of a shouting game.
People come here looking for advice on how to get big or get lean, then one of two things will inevitably happen:
-
Someone will tell the dude how much he sucks, the dude gets pissed, and it turns into a “Your mother” argument, or
-
Someone actually gives the guy serious advice and the guy won’t take it and starts to argue with everyone he just got helpful advice from (because he was most likely just trying fish for compliments by showing off his inflated numbers or physique pictures to begin with). It’s become a monkey-see monkey-do thing now where everyone gets scoffed at no matter what they do.
I’ve only been here for about a year so I got sucked into this, too, but I try to be as empathetic with people as I possibly can.
It really ticks me off when I read threads like the one I’m referencing from BB.com, though, and it’s hard for me not be a dick when I see stupid crap like that.
