Awesome squat!! Aside from core and upper back work did you add in any new lower body exercises recently to get you to 700?
Really didnt man my off season training still stuck to the same template.

Day 1
Speed Squat 5x5 with 60%
Double Pause Deadlifts: 3-5x3-8
Hack Squat: 3-5x10-15
Inverse Curl or GHR
Core

Day 2
Front Squat:3 sets of 3,5, or 6 last set AMRRAP
Block Pulls:1-3 wroksets of 1-5
Lunges or Split Squat
Inverse Curl or GHR: 3-5 sets
Calves
Core

Very simple plain and simple same as always.

I also tried that upper back cue, it definitely helps.

Nice work on that 700. Been watching you progress and you have great form. It’s always difficult to exactly judge depth when looking at a video from the front when you’re so close to being low enough or not. I think unless your doing an IPF or USAPL meet your good and even then it was a video so judging it that precisely is next to impossible. Sure another inch lower would be great but that’s an awesome display of strength and athleticism.

Grit House Classic meet?

Tell me about your cue “Break the bar”.
Yes sir that’s the one. Are you going to be there? Always cool to meet people from the boards.

Imagine taking the bar on your back and then trying to literally pull the ends of the barbell down to the floor. Like the old stongman videos where people would bend rebar across there head. I think of the exact same thing. This forces my lats and middle back to contract as hard as possible and move all into the center of my spine. I am essentially trying to pack as much support as I can into keeping my upper back and spine neutral before ever unracking. If you do it correctly you will literally not even be able to raise or move your shoulders at all on the unrack. It has to be all lower body.

re: Bend the bar. Gotcha. Now I understand what you’re doing. I try to accomplish the same thing but my leverages are a little different. I can’t mentally think about pulling the bar down on me, because mentally coming out of the hole I’m trying to press it off me (helps me drive elbows forward and keep chest up). However, on my set up I’m thinking more of wrapping the bar around me-- the tension of squeezing scaps and lats together while tucking my T-rex arms accomplishes the same thing-- just a different ‘mental cue’.

I may try to get up there. It’s about 3.5 hours. A bunch of people that lift at the APC meets in Georgia are competing that I know of. Should be a good meet. Prepping for GPA Worlds in October in Athens.
