My Father's Day So Far

Rainjack,

I laughed at your original post and I laughed hard because it reminded me of a particular lawn mower I used to own.

What I did to that mower felt great and it also resulted in a new mower.

As far as flooring, I’ve discovered that the laminate wood lookalike stuff is not good for places where there may be water standing for any length of time. The water soaks in and causes it to swell and the edges rise up.

Also, I don’t know what happened to your washer but you can get those hoses with a check valve in them which is supposed to sense a leak and shut off flow. It’s given me piece of mind if nothing else.

Hope you can laugh about it all sooner rather than later.

Basically, the drain outlet on the washer had worn through, and it snapped off. All of the water that came out should have gone down the drain.

The washer and dryer sit in a closet-type out cropping in the room. We are tiling it, caulking around the baseboards, and building a lip at the threshold of the door.

Hopefully, that will contain another blow out long enough to get the shop vac up and running.

i’ve worked the highest paying internship for college business students(rated by forbes). the company interviews fourty thousand students internationally and selects three thousand. it was an 80 hour per week sales and marketing job for the length of a summer.

i finished top ten percent of the three thousand for sales and more importantly profit production. most people would give up just about anything to avoid working that much, especially rich kids who don’t have to.

i’ve been elected president of my universities American Marketing Association two years in a row now, and was vice president of communications before that.

i work when i don’t have to as a student but do have the advantage of investing most of it rather than paying bills or tuition.

i graduate in december and have a pretty cushy job lined up. i will earn as much as any one else but that is in the future and will only add to my current net worth.

wait until i’m fifty or however old you are and i’ll have a laundry list of accomplishments and will probably be making more than 139, inflation factored in. plus add the shit i was born in to and call it luck.

so far, i’ve made the best of the situations i’ve come across and i see no reason to stop.

parenting is a pretty subjective thing, but i don’t feel failed at all. along with the money, i was taught the value of it. i was put on an allowance early and wasn’t allowed extra money.

i couldn’t ask for things i wanted on top of it to learn a lesson. i had to save for everything from baseball cards to video games as a kid though i could have been given your house and your new washer.

pops forced me to get a job as soon as i turned 16, but i had been mowing lawns before hand with a buddy to get the video games, bikes, roller blades or what have you faster.

he did contribute to my portfolio through the years though, which won’t be cashed for a number of years and he does take care of school and all the costs that go with it, and i am very greatful for that.

it would be stupid to turn down such valuable gifts, but i do feel the most value i have recieved was to understand early that hard work is the root of the comforts he has and has given my siblings and i. he is also very generous with charities he feels worthy, and has passed the importance of warranted charity along.

sorry charlie. one day one of your blind stabs might make a mark. keep trying.

and do you want the beach or the mountains? i take both for free while working as hard as anybody. :open_mouth:

anyways, enough explaining me in response to you getting offended at my original comment. you could still build your “custom home” faster if you didn’t drop 4k likes it’s nothing on a 139k salary.

So basically, you haven’t accomplished anything on your own, other than opening your mouth while you get spoon-fed.

I’m glad someone caught the reference.

I guess I’m an oddball. I took the story at face value. I thought it was simply a funny/frustrating anecdote rainjack was sharing. I didn’t realize this was the thread to nitpick and bash rj’s income, housing, and accomplishments. Silly me.

wow I’m not sure but I think this is the angriest thread I have read on here to date.

I’m sorry that your fathers day sucked monkey balls, but hell you got a sweet ass truck out of it. (As long as it’s not the H3…those little windows kill me)

Maybe the mods can kill this thread… it’s making me feel poor

It was a good reference.

But it pales in comparison to hubris. You’re young, dumb and full of cum. Those of us with a little more life experience have seen much bigger trees than you fall.

Those footprints you put on people’s backs have a tendency to hurt many times more when they are on your back. You see, you only leave one set with each back you trod on. When the favor gets repaid, it will be dozens of sets of footprints.

My advice to you (not that you asked for it) is to dial down your self-aggrandizement and be half the dick you’ve been to this point. Don’t worry, that will still leave you with enough room to be in the top 5 list of dicks on T-Nation, but it will make life considerably nicer for the rest of us.

DB

While reading it I felt really bad for the OP. Well except for the bodyslam of the washer, which was funny. Now that I know you’re not really in the poor house, the story is way funnier. Add me to the pro-Father’s Day do-over next week.

I caught the reference too!

And you aren’t an oddball. I thought the same thing. Maybe us Wisconsinites aren’t so dumb afterall! haha

I spent father’s day much like most of the last 545 days of my life: In Iraq. The day before father’s day I watched Sunnis bury the bodies ( found in one big pile) of 23 children…killed by shi insurgents.

So, stop feeling sorry for yourself and be thankful for what you do have.

P.S.

Nascar is for suck. Stop ignoring your family and spend some time with them. Enjoy the pool in your bedroom.

I got the reference…just a little late. You have to remember I had along day yesterday

At least you took my original post in the spirit it was intended.

rainjack, you’ve got my sympathy for the washer and the crummy Father’s Day–although getting to spend part of a Sunday in Lowes is actually pretty cool for Father’s Day. I hope the kids give you a make-up date for it.

BTW, happy Father’s Day Rainjack – didn’t start well, but at least it sounds as if it improved later.

I don’t know if I get an official Father’s Day recognition yet, but we spent the day with my grandpa and grandma, and aunt and cousin – took grandpa out to his favorite local seafood restaurant (Anthony’s, a Seattle chain), and just spent time telling and listening to stories. Grandpa and grandma are both 86, so it’s good to be able to spend this time when we can - luckily they’re still sharp and spry, so I’m looking forward to more of the same next year.

How have you been, BB? I haven’t seen or heard much at all from you since I began my “Republicans are more liberal than Democrats” boycott of politics.

I hope the wife is well - and is that an obscure reference to your entry to the parenting industry?

Today was one of those days you will never forget - and is surely to become the barometer by which all future Father’s Day will be judged.
You, BB and the Prof have to come back. The political forum has disintigrated into shit. Need the old troublemakers back to have some fun again.

Sorry about the fathers day man. Don’t worry it comes around every year again.

I had a washer on the second floor that flooded. My solution after fixing the fricking first floor ceiling was to buy a pan from Lowes with a drain hole in it. Get a plastic PVC fitting and connect the washer hose right to the fitting and run a 6" section of pipe right into the drain. It should never come out or break loose…I hope.

The trip to Lowe’s would have been more in the Spirit of Father’s Day had I been allowed to look at the riding mowers, gas grills, and power tools.

But standing in the Pergo aisle and having a discussion with my wife about whether “Golden Oak”, or “antique oak” best matched our doors is really not that much fun. My eyes glass over, and I my mind wanders over to that linoleum cutting machine, wondering if anyone has ever lost a finger in it.

It was an obscure reference, because it hasn’t happened yet in the legal sense – the little guy is due to make his debut on August 1. The wife is well though, and about as happy as a woman can be who is 7 1/2 months along.

I’ve been busy lately – cross-country move, new job, closing on a new house and the impending addition to the population on the way. I can only assume I’ll be seeing more of you (and hopefully having some time to chime in more) once Hillary is firmly established as the 2008 Dem nominee. Some one needs to make sure she doesn’t win in Texas, after all…

As for your Father’s Day – some would say you will now be able to appreciate the truly good days that much more due to this experience. =-)

Even more stupid rich college kid bullshit.

I don’t really care about how good some college prick does in his/her internship.

If you think I am jealous of anything you have bragged about it just shows how stupid you are.

This thread is about something that happened to me this morning - not how rich your granddad is, or how poor and stupid you think I am.

ProfX is right - I didn’t think I could have less respect for you than I already did. I was wrong.

What is it again I am supposed to be jealous of? Oh…I think it was how rich your granddad and your dad are.

On a side note - what is it about me that dipshit college kids find so attractive? And why is it always one these spoiled brat prick faces instead of the hot co-eds?

oh no! puuleeeaassssseeee! respect me! i don’t think i can carry on!

and i still smell jelousy. i’ve been smelling it pretty much all my life.

it’s cool. why don’t hot college chicks like you?

probably because you are an old tool bag.

lighten up and you’ll get laid more.

and you can attempt to avoid my own accomplishments. i expected it really. once the jelousy sets in, that is all there is to it.

i work hard, i accomplish more than my peers and by the time i reach your age i’ll be plenty accomplished on my own accord, plus i’ll have the stuff you don’t.

if asking what i’ve done on my own and then ignoring it causes you lose respect for me that’s fine. illogical, however very common.

jelousy is a monster.

It’s spelled “jealousy”. I guess all that money can’t teach you to spell.

You are a prick.
ha ha owned. then again this is the guy that says hockey is a sport for homosexuals because 17 year old prospects can only rep 150 lbs an average of like 5 times. some how this is linked to homosexuality. hockey players are also pussies and homos because they are required to wear padding and a helmet to prevent injury in a sport that see’s frequent collisons on ice at speeds exceding 20 mph.

little does he know your average untrained 17 year old can’t bench 150 lbs even once. also apparently hockey players are those who failed at playing any real sports so they turned to hockey. and thats not because they enjoy the sport at all it’s because they were not good enough to basketball or football players.

i try not to get in pissing contests over the net but this guy is so opinionated that i don’t even know if he realizes how blantanly rude he comes oof as even in his first post.

RJ - good to see you and sorry about yesterday. But nothing some whiskey-sipping can’t fix.

And Hedo was right - the Political Forums have disintegrated.

As for Texasguy - sounds like his dad and grand-dad were studs. Must skip a generation.

I much preferred the particular brand of hummer that I received over that of the 4-wheeled variety.

LOL! Great one!

RJ- Shit happens, and when it rains, it pours. I know you’ll pull through this, and by now, you’ve probably forgot about most of it.

You are a real man who has beliefs build on living a life as a man needing to make his own through all circumstances.

Life throws you shit, and you deal with.

Happy late Fathers day.

To Tex-ass-child:

You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a thread regarding Fathers day events, then you come out and challenge what others do with the $$ THEY have, they try to belittle them.

Did you wish him a happy Fathers Day?

Are you a Father?

The scum of society to me are rich pricks who feel they can do and say anything without consequence. You feel you are better than others because of an inheritance.

You’ll never truly grow up because of this. I’ve seen it too many times. You’ll end up a big prick who will likely never truly find happiness or know what it is to be a self made man.

You one day will feel small in the shadow of your Grandfather.

It is because of heroes like you that I am able to pot about my day in an internet forum.

My deepest thanks, and respect go out to you and your brothers in arms for putting your life on the line each and every day.

But with that said - have you never had a day that pretty much went wrong from the get-go? That’s all this was supposed to be about.

And just for the record - I spend a good 20 hours a day with my children during the summer, and about 15-17 hours a day with them during the school year.

My accounting practice requires only a few hours of work per week - excepting tax season - and my other business is pretty much taken care of by my partners.

SO I have tons of time to spend with the kids. It is the extremely rare occasion that we are without both of them at the same time. So, when I get a chance for some “me” time - I take it without even so much as a twinge of guilt.

Once again - Thank you for your service, and I hope you get a chance to come for good very soon.
