Muscle Milk Before Bed?

If you have never tried a high quality casein or any protein for that matter, I suggest you do so. I’ve found a lot less of the high quality is needed, as other posters stated, just thought I’d reinforce this.

To get some good fats in, as well as a little fiber even, take some walnuts before you go to bed. 12 oz goes for about $2.50 some places and even less in bulk. Additionally, TC listed them as one of the power foods due to the antioxidants.

On a side note, I’m surprised nobody said to this guy, “Stop buying the booze, it’ll save you tons.” That statement is true, not accusing you of anything though.

I’ll restate what I said earlier. Muscle Milk isn’t bad as a night time protein if you want to bulk. Add the oil and milk, and you’ve got a good, high calorie, high fat shake that will take you through the night.

Is a good casin protein like Metabolic Drive better at night? If your bulking, probably. If your cutting, definitely. That’s kind of why it costs more.

Nighttime is tricky. You’ve got to burn protein for 7 or 8 hours, so you either need lots of cals or good protein. You can choose and let your body decide.

FYI - when I burn through some of the other stuff I’ve got, I’ll probably go only the Metabolic Drive route for nighttime protein. It is worth the health benefit for me for $70 a month.
Is it really that difficult to wake in the middle of the night to have another shake???

Haha i appreciate the advice but i actually don’t really drink, maybe once a month, to busy with school and working etc. What oil would you suggest i add to it? I take 4 fish body oil caps a day as it is, would Flax be a good idea to get some Omega-6’s in? 1TBS a good general amount? I’m going to order one once i get payed and hopefully i can find a way to afford it on a regular basis.

Personally, I won’t touch Muscle Milk. On other forums, I heard a lot of hooting about how great it tastes, so I ordered a bucket a LONG time ago to try it out. Cookies n Creme tasted like someone ate a few oreos with milk and then puked it up. Yummy. I can buy a pack of oreos, feed it to my dog, and get that same great taste for $3!

Yep, the Cookies n Creme flavor tastes like ass, especially mixed with water. It’s nearly palatable mixed with milk. If you hold your nose and drink it real fast. However, the Banana flavor is awesome, and the Chocolate/Peanut Butter is pretty good. The Strawberry is so-so. I haven’t tried any of the other flavors yet.
Moacha Joe is good so is Mint Choc chip. But I’d eat dogshit if it had large amounts of protein so I may not be the best taste tester.

I don’t know if I’d call it difficult. I used to wake up for a shake, and I would still do that if I so desired.

But, I would always prefer to stay in a deep state of sleep than break the sleep pattern. I guess I’m just lazy that way.

It’s not the waking that’s difficult for me. It’s the getting back to sleep part.

Thanks for the info. I’d actually been wondering about those particular flavors, especially the Mocha Joe. And hey, dogs eat cat shit for the protein!

Can anyone give me advice on this please?

Olive oil would probably be “one of the best”; however, flax provides some decent fiber and a 2:1 ratio of omega 3:6, I believe. Buy walnuts, they’re not that expensive online, I use the NOW foods, just GOOGLE it. But yes, in terms of oils, get olive or flax.
