Taken - Damn good. They should have had him in far more action movies judging by how he did here. I watched the unrated version so I don’t know how the “theater version” was.
Underworld Rise of The Lycans - Done like a wannabe Lord of the Rings. The love story was uninteresting to say the least. The best actor again was the lead vampire and while the special effects are better than in any of the others, the speed of the entire film is slower and less visually stimulating. Nothing beats the leather outfit in the first two.
The Spectacular Spiderman (Animated) - this is actually pretty good if you can get past the basic style of drawing they do here. the story itself is deeper. I got “chapter 4” where Venom shows up and how he gets the symbiote off is done better than in the movie…showing that what saved him was the support of his family and friends, subconscious support systems from everyone in his life helped him win a mental battle with it.

The theatrical version was damn good, too. I’ve been meaning to buy it since it came out on Blu-Ray.
Kind of sad when the best part of the movie when you see that 2 second clip of Kate Beckinsale at the end.

I know the big black guy who played one of the lycans came up with this idea and it looked like he was really going for some epic movie approach…but the characters just weren’t there to fill this out. No one really cares about their love affair anyway so having the whole movie center on it was a waste since we all know how it is going to end.
I’m not even sure you can call this one an “action movie”.
Watched Ace Ventura:When Nature calls the other day…
Not his greatest movie but damn Jim Carrey is funy. I had to re-watch the Rhino scene about 12 times
Also watched Superbad last night. Hell of a funny movie…
And Zeitgeist. Part 1 is brilliant. Parts 2 & 3 are best left to the conspiracy nuts(true or not)
I’ve been watching a lot of horror lately. I’m not a fan of scary, just disturbing.
Imprint - It’s a Takeshi Miike film (he did Ichi the Killer), and if you like disturbing, you’ll love it. It’s stomach turning done beautifully.
Let the Right One In - It’s in Swedish, but I didn’t notice the subtitles at all. The guys keep calling it a disturbing horror movie about vampires, but I don’t think we saw the same movie. I thought it was romantic and happened to have vampires and carnage. Regardless, horror fans must watch.
Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist - It’s a documentary, the title says it all. Wickedly interesting (deviation from the norm always is) but you have to have a really strong stomach, it’s got some hardcore BDSM.
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Aliens
Cool Hand Luke
I forgot how fucking intense Aliens is, as I haven’t seen it in a few years. The last hour and 20 minutes of the film is pure, unadulturated action.[/quote]
Agreed,
I think Aliens is very much underrated as far as an action movie, and Sigourney Weaver took it home with her badassery.

With all due respect, is it possible for Aliens to be underrated? It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. At the time it was released, it was amazing and I think it still holds up over the years. I can still watch that movie and get tense about the action.
I think it was one of the first examples of a sequel surpassing the original.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop - The fact that this movie did well either speaks to the fact that there was nothing else out at the time or people’s expectations for a comedy are just low these days. It’s not terrible, but not particularly funny either. It’s very tame and safe. This could have been on TV without any editing.

I say that because it’s rare that a sequel can live up to the original film. How many movie sequels suck compared to the original. I wish they would have done a prequel to develop the story about the alien ship and the origins of the alien from the first film.
Watched “Rogue” yesterday Fucken really good monster movie. If anybody likes those kinds i recommend it, its set in Australia the cinematography is awesome.
