Movies You've Watched This Week?

Has everyone seen the trailer for the upcoming movie Moon with Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey?

Looks like it might be a good one.

Is anyone else getting tired of seeing Seth Rogen in every other movie that comes out? I think the guy is hilarious, but the movies he’s in all have the same feel.
I think Knocked up was his last good movie. Maybe thats Hollywood for you, always raising the bar. But Pineapple Express was lame IMO, I have never smoked pot so I just didn’t get it. I think he is talented with improv comedy, but he needs to come up with some better shit than his last few recent movies.

Pineapple Express didn’t do anything for me either, but I’m thinking of giving it another shot. My friends the other day were quoting lines from the movie and I didn’t remember any of the stuff they were talking about. It all sounded funny though, so I’m wondering if I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind when I saw it the first time.

It looks like Observe and Report is getting good reviews so far. At least with the few I’ve looked at. I plan on seeing that next weekend. I won’t have time to see it this weekend as I’m on call. :frowning:

Not bad. I would of preferred Spacey to actually act then be a voice of a computer. I enjoy a good sci-fi.

Just finished Desperado to break-in my new TV. Sometimes you have to go back to the classics to enjoy a movie.

Oh, forgot to mention Flash of Genius. Being in school for engineering, I find it fascinating how average people can come up with new ideas. The movie was good if you’re into that, but definitely not one to rush out and buy.

Pineapple Express was hilarious! that is all

Observe and Report is very similar, in tone, to Foot Fist Way. I saw it earlier this evening and I will say it’s not for everyone. Manohla Dargis of The New York Times said, “If you thought Abu Ghraib was a laugh riot then you might love ‘Observe and Report.’” Maybe she’s exaggerating, or maybe I’m too fucked up at this point to notice when something is just wrong.

Either way, I got some good cheap laughs.

Training Day - I thought it was pretty cool, it was nothing special IMO. Denzel’s performance was absolutely amazing though.

Gran Torino - Quite possibly the most awesome movie ever. Clint Eastwood is by far the most badass actor to have ever lived. His voice in this movie, is seriously the most epic thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like Solid Snake multiplied by 100. I laughed, I got excited and I was heartbroken when it came to this movie. Amazing.

Clint Eastwood’s racial slurs in Gran Torino were fucking awesome. Also, yes, he is probably the most badass person ever.

I can’t wait to see this movie!

flashbacks of a fool - once i got over the pace of the movie and let the message come through it was a very good film. i was like, oh brother. this is slow. who cares. and all of a sudden the acting and the story and characters grabbed me. one scene that turns out to be the central theme of the movie was particulary effective…it may be more of an age thing (mine), though. it had to do with how great brian ferry’s music is. the way the actress and actor were framed in this scene was perfect. there are moments that are so predictable in the movie but it is a simple film about a simple thing; growing up.

spellbound - i loved this documentary about contestants in the national spelling bee. the families were great to watch.
stanley kubrick - a life in pictures. fantastic documentary even with tom cruise narration. he was not irritating in any way in this.

I’ve watched… Taken, Gran Torino, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Traitor, Hitman, Twilight, the french film “Martyrs” from Horror Fest, The Day the Earth Stood Still and several others this week.

The third installment of Underworld wasn’t anywhere near as good as the first two but it was still decent.

Traitor, Gran Torino, Martyrs, and Taken were all incredible films IMO.

The Day The Earth Stood Still and Twilight were both pretty good as well.

Quarantine- ^^^^^

OK…I admit to watching that movie about 4 times so far but stopping it before they get into that last room in the attic.

I also tend to stop Dawn of the Dead before the final credits end. I don’t like “no hope” endings much either…but the rest was fine to me.
It seems like everyone hated Quarantine IDK why. By far the freakiest movie I have seen in a LONG time. Something about that first person camera angle that just really pulled me in.

Aside from the extremely boring first 20-30 minutes of the movie it was awesome.

And yes, the last attic scene is INTENSE!

I used to watch sometimes two movies a day, but I’ve seen most movies now, and I find anything I haven’t seen just isn’t worth my time. Quality of new movies getting released these days sucks too.

Last movie I watched was Vicky Cristina Barcelona about two weeks ago. Not sure why Penelope Cruz won an Oscar for it, but it was definitely a good movie.

x2

I’m still scratching my head over that one. I didn’t think her performance was anything special.

Man, I wasn’t expecting to laugh so hard at some points in this movie. I was in tears I was laughing so hard. What a serious classic.

Just saw “I Love You, Man.”

Fucking hilarious. Not what I expected at all. I was very surprised at being so misled by the trailer.

I saw Rise of the Lycans a few weeks back. They really could’ve have done a better prequel, but prequels are hard to do I guess.

No Kate = me unhappy.

I just finished watching Mongol. I’m happy to say that it was fantastic. I knew when buying the movie that it wasn’t a blood fest action historical epic, but I was interested anyways. I was pleasantly surprised by the good acting and the Mongolian language added another aura too it. While it wasn’t 100% historically accurate, it doesn’t bother me at all. A movie is a movie, and this is a great one without the added Hollywood crap all over it.

Donkey Punch - Some dumb ass movie about an actual donkey punch gone wrong. It’s basically about how this guy one hit insta-kills a girl by donkey punching her during sex and then all the people involved lose their fucking minds trying to deal with it. I can’t stand a movie like this, because I just don’t see people behaving like this if something like this were to really happen. Well, I guess if all the people involved were complete idiots (like they are in this movie), then I could see this happening.

Doubt - I liked this. Phillip Seymour Hoffman brings it again. He, along with Meryl Streep, have some really great scenes. It’s basically about a priest that is accused of molestation of one of the altar boys by the head nun at the church. It’s a little slow in parts and I don’t think this movie is for everyone, but I really thought it was good.
