Movies You've Watched This Week?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - After watching this again, I decided it’s my favorite movie. I’ve never been able to decide on a favorite movie in my life. The dialogue is just awesome. I am a film noir fan, but I find it is often too serious to watch unless you are in the right mood. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of the only film noir movies that combines the typical style with humor to lighten it up. And the humor is always clever and never forced. Anyways, I could write a lot more about how great this movie is, but I’ll move on to the next one.

While not my favorite movie, I agree that it’s a great one. It’s one of the few movies I’ve watched in recent memory, where I rented it knowing almost nothing about it going in, and then felt immediately compelled to go and buy it after watching it. I’ve seen it 4-5 times now.

I thought Val Kilmer was excellent in it.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is probably one of the best movies out there that is seems no one has heard of! I love that movie!

i thought it was great. i went to see it when it first came out. in the theatres. when it came out on dvd, i brought it to work and watched it with a co-worker. she hated it and would not stop talking about how bad it was to whoever would listen to her.

walz with bashir. super sad film/doc. animated like a scanner darkly but with more steady lines. it was a man’s concern about his loss of memory from the period when he was a young soldier at war. it was powerful. it will make you feel bad.

Anyone noticed the newest rendition of Robin Hood is around the corner. The good part is that it’s directed by Ridley Scott, but here’s the kicker:

Russell Crowe plays Robin Hood AND The Sheriff of Nottingham.

I was excited about it until I read that in this version the Sheriff and Robin are not only played by the same guy, but are supposed to be the same guy.

Be cool - I have seen this before but got it outagain. I fucking love this movie. Great cast too.

Invincible - I like true story based movies but this didn’t really do alot for me. It was alright.

Event Horizon. I’ve seen it several times since it’s release, but it still creeps me out.

Great movie. I watch it at least twice a year.

Bubbahotep. My ex gf jacked this one from me a couple of years ago and I just re-bought it. Awesome flick for fans of Bruce Campbell.

Just saw Bruce Campbell and his movie “My Name is Bruce” back in December. I also saw him when was promoting “The Man with the Screaming Brain”.

The guy who owns the theater across the street from where I work knows him, and he always stops here when he promotes his movies.

Fucking sweet. I’d love to meet him–been a fan since I saw The Evil Dead like 20 years ago. I’ve never heard of the screaming brain movie. I’ll have to look that up.

The Wrestler - Awesome, but I would wait til it’s out on video. Not necessary to see it in the theater.

Juno - This was a funny fucking movie.

Stepbrothers - This had its funny moments but overall it was a disappointment because it’s not even close to Talladega Nights. It’s watchable though.

Walk Hard - The worst “comedy” I’ve ever seen. The only thing that kept me watching was that I was consistently amazed by how hot Pam from The Office looked with makeup on and her tits out. I honestly don’t think I laughed once.

Into The Wild

It was okay. Hal Holbrook was stellar.

I had read the book last year and it was way better.

Bruce Campbell is awesome. I am going to watch Bubbahotep this weekend with my brother in law. I still have not seen it.

Watched Lost Highway again. Weird movie for those who haven’t seen it. It’s a David Lynch film, so it’s very hard to follow but is very very worth watching, twice at least just to fully understand what happened. David Lynch films are crazy as hell but awesome.

Spellbound - Maybe it’s because I’m kind of a nerd, but I love the Scripps National Spelling Bee. I know some people are bothered by it being on ESPN, but fuck them. I love the Spelling Bee. Every May it’s like I get to watch another Superbowl.

I really enjoyed this movie. It’s just a quick chronicle of 8 spelling bee competitors getting ready to compete in the National Spelling Bee.

Glory Road - It’s Remember the Titans, but for basketball. It’s not a bad movie and I was entertained, but it’s nothing great.

Speaking of Remember the Titans, I just realized last week the Avon Barksdale is Julius from Remember the Titans.

Cinderella Man - Underdog/second chance sports story. Ran a little long for my taste.

Dr. Strangelove - Continues to be one of my favorite movies. General Buck Turgidson’s is hilarious and I’d watch the movie again if only to see his facial expressions.

I saw Dr Strangelove this week too. The President’s phone calls with Dimitri are classics.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Spellbound, but I really liked it. I remember feeling bad for a few of those kids though. The pressure they were under and some seemed to have overbearing parents. Plus, that one kid that lost, but still thought he spelled the word right seemed a little ‘off’.

At least that’s how I remember it.

You know, it’s funny. Ever since I started watching The Wire, I seem to play ‘spot the former The Wire’ actor in any movie or TV show I watch now.

Like when Bubbles and Marlo Stanfield were on Heroes. Marlo had a scene in Max Payne as well.

Omar has a cameo in The Incredible Hulk and was also in Gone Baby Gone. I remember when I saw The Incredible Hulk in the theater and he made his cameo, some guy in the theater yells, “OMAR!”

Chris Partlow was on a show I watched recently.

Stringer Bell was in RockNRolla (speaking in his native, British accent) and Prom Night.

Beadie was on The Office for a few episodes.

And let’s not forget that McNulty was the leader or Steel Dragon from Rock Star (also speaking in his native, British accent).

There are more examples, but I’ll stop here. I think I’ve gone too far with my movie nerd trivia.

Dear God, Vader. You need help.

The Man Who Wasn’t There

I liked it. It was really slow-burning and subdued, but in a good way. The black and white worked wonderfully, and Billy Bob Thornton remains one of my favorite actors. This one was of the few movies I’ve seen recently that i actually wanted to finish, rather than turning it off forty minutes in. Tony Shalhoub was hilarious.

I was, however, very disappointed that Billy Bod turned down road dome from a nubile young Scarlett Johansson. It worked well for the story, but after all the sexual subtext it felt anticlimactic. I think he deserved a break.
