Movies You've Watched This Week?

Fearless.

another Jet Li flick that kept my attention with the action more than the story. It was $4.00, saw it while I was getting groceries and figured what the hell.

Saw The Wrestler last night. OK, couple interesting bits, but not nearly as good as the reviews/hype. Don’t bother.

Finishing up Return of the Jedi right now and watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall (“my wife” “my husband” “ol ball and chain”) and Wedding Crashers earlier today. Great day of movies after gettin out of class this mornin and hittin the gym around noon.

Had “Catch me if you Can” recorded on my TIVO and watched today since I was snowed in.

Dammit, that is a terrific movie, I’d say easily one of my favorite movies of the last 10 years.

I would consider it a modern classic, that, along with Secondhand Lions, both feel like they were made during an earlier time. I just dont get that feeling when I see many modern day movies, they just completely suck me in.

Munich.
about the retribution assasinations following the killing of the Israeli Olympians in 1972.
Not neccesarily anti-semitic, but definitely anti-war.
good acting, will probably watch it again.

Defiance.

About the Jews during the Holocaust who escaped and created a secret community in the forests of which 1,200 survived by the end of it all. I thought it was a great movie with many touching moments. Knowing it is no fictional story made it that much more emotional.

Not to mention, a family friend (whom I’ve never met) is allegedly the last original survivor of the forest dwellers. No joke. She met the whole cast and all.

pineapple express - had some real funny parts. franco was funny.

wall-e - B-l-e-a-k. there was a love story of sorts and it was supposed to be uplifting in the end but i couldn’t get over the multitudes of fat people. not a good thing to see or think about.

“i didn’t know we had a pool” and when the captain was informed about the bone loss he had to have suffered; that was more upsetting to me than the garbage.

Pineapple Express a couple days ago.

watching anchorman later tonight probably

I just saw “Let the Right One In.” Most original vampire storyline I’ve ever heard. It’s Swedish(subtitled) and is centers on this white as fuck kid that has no friends, gets bullied, all the usual shit. He is befriended by the girl that moves in next door, who turns out to be a blood sucking monster killing up the town and shit. Great fucking flick.

Gran Torino - had it’s moments but overall it was fairly shite. it played like a made for tv movie at times. how can a 70 year old man go around scaring and beating up gang members? silly. Clint was in pretty good form, but the supporting cast was awful.

The Reader - not sure about this one. why the fuck did she do life in prison, just cos she didnt want to admit she was illiterate? couldnt get my head around that one.

Slumdog millionaire - good movie but waaaaaaay overated. not exactly oscar material.

The Lives of Others - fucking brilliant.

crank- guy flick. kind of like a turbo-toon. statham is crazy, and believably tough through absurdity. when he steals the motorcycle…pretty funny.
getting to watch the king of kong.

The Lucky Ones - It was okay. I thought it was well acted overall, but the story was just kind of forced. It had its moments though. Tim Robbins was good as usual and I LOVE Rachel McAdams, so I enjoy watching her anyway.

Mirrors - I thought the movie was lame, but it did have one of the best death scenes I’ve seen in a while. The story just wasn’t very good and the ending was pretty awful.

Hamlet 2 - Kind of funny, but it felt like they pulled their punches on this one. It seems like this could have been way more out there and it would have been better. For a movie that was billing itself as controversial, nothing in the movie really struck me as over the top.

Lakeview Terrace - Kind of disappointed in this. I didn’t really like the characters at all and I didn’t like the ending.

College - From the people that brought us Waiting…, a movie that’s not as good as Waiting…. Some funny parts, but there are much better, raunchy, college frat comedies you’d be better off watching than this crap.

City of Ember - Blah. Really disappointing. It seemed too short and I really didn’t feel like they told a very good story here considering the setup. I didn’t care at all about the outcome.

RockNRolla - It was okay. Not as good as Snatch or Lock, Stock…, but better than some of the other recent Guy Ritchie films I’ve seen lately.

The Rocker - I’m always disappointed in movies like these for not making fun of 80’s hair metal more. Rainn Wilson’s character is basically an overgrown child through most of the movie, except he doesn’t do a very good job with that role.

Taken - One of the more bad ass movies I’ve seen in a long, long time. The story was bad ass, Liam Neeson was bad ass. Have I mentioned that this movie is bad ass? Cause it is. You can add Liam Neeson to the list of actors I’d like have a beer with. The movie was very tense and fast paced. I caught myself clenching my fists many times throughout the movie.

Hulk Vs. - I liked this overall, but I thought that Vs. Wolverine was better than Vs. Thor.

Repo! The Genetic Opera - Thought it was weird and stupid. It’s basically a bad musical about a futuristic world where they have repo men that will repossess organs from transplants if you fail to make payment. There’s a little more too it than that, but it’s just not very good or worth watching. Paris Hilton is in it. That should tell you a lot about it.

The Express - As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for sports dramas. Again, not exactly reinventing the wheel here. They were just telling Ernie Davis’ story this time. I thought it was well done though and well acted.

Braveheart
Tombstone
Wyatt Earp (for comparision sake, Wyatt Earp is the better film)
Pineapple Express
Balls of Fury
Doomsday (Rhona Mitra is hotter than fire - movied sucked)
Transformers (my son’s favorite, great for repeated viewings)

you don’t know many retired Marines then, do you? A local guy in my town is 77, a retired Marine, and had a little ankle biter Pomeranian.

He was attacked last year by two pitbulls while walking his dog. He beat the pits off barehanded. At 77.

You forget, some of these soldiers killed people. And armed with a 1911 does help things a bit. I’d be more scared of Leo, his name than anyone posting on this site. He’s killed people in Korea, while most here, well, haven’t.

come on, i dont know any retired marines. but we’re talking about a character in a movie who was portrayed as sick and unable to move a washing machine without the help of a teenager.

2 scenes spring to mind.

First, the one when the 3 big guys are harrassing the girl. He steps out of the car and confronts the thugs within arms length, and starts threatening to shoot them. In reality they would have jumped him and kicked the shit out of him.

Second, when he busts that gangbangers door open, throws him to the ground and pounds the shit out of him. Yet, the guy old as hell and sick. Silly.

I watched “Righteous Kill” with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and I didn’t like it.

I thought the story was disjointed and I am just not a fan of Pacino.

Robocop 3- Even though there’s some appauling acting and choreography (stop the sword waving and cut Robo up Otomo!), this movie is still awesome. Wait, how could it ever not be awesome, Robocop flies in it for cryin’ out loud.

There Will Be Blood - Big disappointment. I bought this because I like DD Lewis and thought that a historic drama about the early days of oil discovery in the USA might have some interesting information.

Well I was right about the interesting info. If that really was how they used to prospect and work the shafts, then they were some seriously brave/desperate/foolhard fellows.

However, I wathced this with a buddy, and we turned it off after 1:30 when we realised there was still 60 minutes to go. We just couldn’t face another 60 minutes of the same shite.

What was wrong with it? Well nothing really happened of any import. The son was deafened, a long lost brother turned up, a local preacher gave some bother, the lead character went slowly mad.

I can only assume that the rest of the film involved the developing madness of the lead character. Whoopee.

Perhaps I will force myself to watch the last 60 minutes, but realistically, I doubt it.

If you skipped the last 60 minutes, then you basically skipped watching all the best parts of the movie.
