Movies You've Watched This Week?

My Best friends Girl- pretty good movie. Cook is hilarious in parts, but sometimes tried too hard.

Swing Vote- ok movie, kept me interested.

AV- You have some high standards for movies.

Either that or you just have really low standards for them…hehe. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Hills Have Eyes - I’m not really into these kinds of movies. They are sort of predictable. The ending was quite obvious. Good guy does away with bad guy. Drops gun next to ‘dead’ bad guy. Walks away. ‘Dead’ bad guy regains strength and uses dropped weapon (with seemingly unlimited ammunition) to shoot good guy. Good/bad little girl jumps in the way of the bullet and takes out bad guy. Ending scene leaves the assumption that there is more of the bad guys. Ah well.

Just saw it. Funny how the dude who was set up to be a wimp killed about six of the mutants.

Anyone seen the Wes Craven original? IMO the original had more of an indi feel and this one was more polished, and more bloody. The new movie followed the plot somewhat as I can recall, though surprisingly, it did not have one of the most disturbing scenes.

I sort of thought the kid (that somehow had unlimited ammo) would be the one going on a rampage.

TAKEN- starring Liam Neeson, its a movie about a spy/agent who’s daughter is kidnapped, and has to use his skills to save her. Great movie overall, I thought Liam did a great job with the fight and action scenes considering his age. Worth watching for sure.

Of course he did a great job, he’s a Jedi.

That is a movie I’d like to see, if I ever get around to watching movies.

Trust PMPM its worth it. What I found when watching it, was that it had you on the edge of your seat. The bad guys are BAD, and you find yourself almost rooting for Liam to jack them up. Sorry trying not to spoil it. The excitement reminded me of when I saw RANSOM.

Not to mention he is also Irish. You can’t go wrong with any Irish actor except for Colin Farrell.

Was hesitant to watch stepbrothers but was under the weather and needed a good laugh. I though it was funny as shit. They were complete idiots and pretty damn raw.

“I’ll drop that motherfucker”. I had to catch my breath I was laughing so hard.

hannibal rising.
yes I know it’s been out for a while.
I was thoroughly impressed (which isn’t hard to do, I love movies) but the kid playing young hannibal lecter did a great job of using some characteristics that anthony hopkins portrayed in the previous movies.

Saw V

I liked this one better than most of the others. There has never been a group of sequels that all start the next movie minutes after the last one ended like this. You sort of have to give them credit for drawing out a story line like this.

The Bucket List - I really liked this flick, I was looking for something under two hours and I found a good one. I thought it was funny, heart warming and sad as well. Jack Nicholson did great, I loved how his character changed through the movie. Morgan Freeman was also great, as usual.

RockNRolla- I didnt like this movie at all. The plot was meaningless and difficult to follow. I thought with Gerard Butler and Jeremy Pivens it might be good. NOT.

Gran Torino- I loved this movie! Clint is hinting that might be his last acting role. If so, he rides off into the sunset with a good role.

Children Of Men- This might be my Clive Owen movie…I almost forgive him for Shoot Em Up.

The Warriors- The Tigress and I have almost memorized this movie. If you don’t like it you suck.

very “busy” weekend

MAX PAYNE - if you’re not familiar with Max, he originated from a 2001 video game. The cool factor in the video game was a feature called bullet time. Bullet time allowed the user to shoot and dodge bullets in super slow motion, a la Matrix. Very cool and unique at the time. My poor old PC struggled with the effects at the time :frowning:

I was expecting an action-packed movie full of revenge and bullets. This was sort of fulfilled, but only until the very end. I really liked the action sequences. The problem is that they were the last 20 minutes of the movie. I was hoping to see more bullet time sequences then just one scene. I’m hoping this movie will spur on some sequels. Mark Wahlberg and Mina Kunis did a good job acting.

The cherry on top was that I saw this in HD.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army - I was expecting an action/fantasy that’s exactly what this movie is. The acting is so-so, the plot is pretty basic. Actually, the movie reminded me of the third Mummy movie. This did seem to drag on a bit. I really liked how colorful the scenes and characters were. Again, saw this on a HD tv.

First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part Two - I ‘grew’ up on these movies. Ok, I was a little young when they first came out. But these are just great man movies.

One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is at the end of First Blood when John Rambo is essentially emotionally unloading on Colonel Trautman. You can really feel his pain and turmoil that he has been experiencing. Extreme highs of being important, having friends, and using multi-million dollar equipment. Extreme lows of being a wanderer, can’t keep a normal job, an outcast.

Anyway , both great flicks.

Saw Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, AND The Wrestler over the weekend.

(Christmas Movie Passes)

I really liked all of them, probably connected best to Gran Torino.

The one that’s made me think more about it though, was Wrestler. It’s a pathetic story, sad, and I went away from the film not really feeling anything for The Ram.

But Rourke’s protrayal as well as the way that it was filmed (lots of following him around, lots of back shots) was interesting. Made you feel like you were all up in his business when I personally didn’t want to be.

Slumdog is going to get a lot of acclaim, but I think it’s more about how women are going to go nuts over this story. It’s a good escape type movie, but it seals up perfectly in the end and then there’s a dance number. Just not my style I guess.

North Country - Liked it. Good performance from Charlize Theron again and the rest of the cast was strong as well. Felt like the of the courtroom scene at the end of the movie was cliched though.

Appaloosa - I liked this although I think Renee Zelwegger was miscast. She was my only real problem with the movie. She just felt out of place. Other than that, it might have been a little too long and slow in parts. I liked how it ended though.

Max Payne - Already talked about this in the Geek thread. It was weak. I never played the game, but it seems like they didn’t do a very good job of explaining the story to those of us that aren’t fans of the game. I do remember the ‘bullet time’ feature when the original game came out though. Seems like it would have been cool if they had put that in the movie, but maybe they were afraid of drawing comparisons to The Matrix.

Also, I’m getting tired of Wahlberg scowling and mumbling his way through films. I also thought Mila Kunis was miscast.

Saw V - Had some interesting deaths, which is always entertaining to me. I got to hand it to these guys for the way they are stretching this franchise out by making all the sequels explain how the things in the earlier movies played out. Jigsaw died two movies ago, but the franchise keeps chugging along and now he’s the good guy. I wonder what they’ll explain in the upcoming Saw VI? Maybe go into Jigsaw’s teen years. I’m sure they could take a movie or two to explain that.

Igor - Nothing special. A good idea, but not really executed well. Will appeal to kids, but not really adult enough to be entertaining for anyone else.

Gangs of New York - I really liked this. Daniel Day-Lewis killed as he always does. Felt like Cameron Diaz was out of place here though. Also, the very end kind of bugged me. I was hoping for more of a real fight between Day-Lewis and DiCaprio’s characters, but that was a real let down.

I’m about halfway through From Hell which so far I just haven’t been able to get into.

It’s like they get better with the story telling in each movie. I am actually looking forward to the next one after this one. Considering they made the entire first movie on the budget it takes to make one set for the sequels, I am impressed with how they linked all of this together.

Now we just need to know…what’s in the box?

yeah. not one of my favorites, but it didn’t suck completely.

Yeah, that’s pretty much my thoughts so far. It doesn’t completely suck, but it’s just not holding my interest very well.

We should make our guesses now and then reconvene once we watch Saw VI.

I know that it’s probably not a human head, but if it turned out to be Gwyneth Paltrow’s head in that box, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Since she only took a quick look at it and then closed it, I’m guessing it was the Jigsaw mask.

Casino - One of my all time favorite movies on the tele last night. Bobby and Joey do another outstanding job as mobsters.[/quote]

I remember seeing this on TV when I was young but could never remember the name. Took me a long time to track it down. I watched it again not long ago. De Niro was made for these roles imo. Great Movie.
