What a great documentary! Seriously, anyone who has played or still plays video games has to check this out. The story of 1 guy chasing the Donkey Kong high score is easy to relate to, and Billy Mitchell (who holds the score, then loses it then mysteriously gets it back) plays a great antagonist.
Embrace your inner nerd and watch the movie.
That’s a popular movie in this thread. I think you’re like the fourth person that’s posted watching it recently. Seems everyone has liked it, but what’s not to like, right?

Here’s the problem with that movie. Everyone looks like a complete loser except for one exception. The science teacher who *SPOILER * got cheated out of the record by uber geek with the long hair. SPOILER
I watched it and thought to myself: “I’m cooler than everyone in this movie. Only two people are as cool as me and that’s the science teacher and the old lady.”

This morning I watched Starship Troopers. It was brought up in another thread so I got the urge to watch it again.
It’s still cool in my book.
Think about the CGI in that movie for a moment.
That movie was made in '97 making it over a decade old. THAT is pretty cool.
Totally! That’s one of the things I noticed about it when watching it. The effects still hold up well. It doesn’t look like a 10 year old movie at all.
Plus, that movie has some great quotes.

Starship Troopers, aside from being a pretty badass movie, is my reference point for computer animation. Whenever I’m having an argument about whether or not a movie’s CG animation sucked, I say “Come on, Starship Troopers looked better than that, and it came out 10 years ago!”
I know this movie isn’t very popular, but I love it and think its ambiguously funny. NACHO LIBRE!
“NAAAAAACCCCCHHHHHHOOOOOOOoooooooooooo”
Oh and anyone who liked Hancock? Uggghhh please. It would have been amazing except for the terrible twist with Jason Batemans wife in the movie. That threw a bad wrench in the film and IMO never recovered.

So we’re not even gonna put “Spoiler Alert” in that post? I know the movie came out 10 plus days ago, but not everyone has seen it.

Well, it is a documentary about guys still trying to break the Donkey Kong high score…in 2005. I wasn’t exactly expecting the people involved to be ‘cool’.

I have to agree. Within 2 weeks of a movie’s release (and possibly longer), you need to give some kind of spoiler warning when discussing details or plot points.

I see your point, but I was hoping that maybe…just MAYBE they would put someone on TV that looked human. Even the supposed King of Kong looks like a douche bag with that hair. And he’s all high and mighty about playing Kong.

I didn’t give specifics whatsoever. I made sure not to because of that. Although I see what you’re both saying. Sorry if this does ruin it for you although I would spend my money elsewhere if I were you. The movie really sucks.
I’d say Hulk is the best flick yet. I am sure Dark Knight will blow it out though. We’ll see.

One could argue that Starship Troopers is obviously the exception. But then again if one movie can do it, why not all of them?
.

.
.
And the answer is the budget.
I bought this a few weeks ago on a 2 for 1 special and feel like I got ripped off. Watching Marisa Tomei (who’s holding up VERY well:-)) getting worn out by Phillip Seymour Hoffman is really the only thing worth watching, and that’s the first scene. I’m contemplating throwing the DVD in the trash when I get home.
Superbad - I thought it was pretty funny at times, but the middle chunk of the movie at the party and the other guy hanging out with the cops was kind of slow. Aside from that it was pretty good.
“Ohhhh…I’m so wet!”
“Yeah, they said that would happen in health class.”

When that middle part came up in the commentary, either Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill was yelling out “lame!” Apparently even they didn’t like doing it.

LMFAO!
That absolutely slayed me when I heard it. Her line a little later was even more priceless:
“I don’t why you’re being such a little bitch about it.”
Hahaha!

I find the more I watch it, the more the little things in the movie make me laugh. It certainly does drag in parts though. It had almost a 2 hour run time, so it seems they could have cut out a few parts here and there to quicken the pace.
I had high hopes for Pineapple Express, but the trailer for that looks stupid to me.
The Ruins - I thought this sucked for the most part. There were some interesting gory parts, but it was pretty slow and not scary at all.
Stop-Loss - I liked this. It’s funny cause I used to hate Ryan Phillipe, but he’s been in a few movies lately that I’ve liked. Channing Tatum was good too. After seeing him in this movie, I think he’ll do well in G.I. JOE.
Sleepwalking - This was just okay for me. It’s a little too slow and depressing for my tastes.
Superhero Movie - Just plain shit. I still think Meet The Spartans was worse though.
Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control - This is a companion piece to Get Smart, which I still haven’t seen. I actually didn’t think it was that bad.
Hellboy 2 - I just thought this was okay. Visually the movie was great, but the story was just kind of blah.
I saw Hancock yesterday and I thought it was a bit of a disappointment, the ending at least. While I generally like Will Smith and think he is very talented, the plot and story lacked enthusiasm IMO. This wasnt a movie that I thought to be life changing by any means, but it just left you hanging in the end. More of a rental than an in-theatre experience.
The Great Debaters was much more appealing. Denzel again delivers with this feel good movie. I would recommend this if you need a tingly feeling or just having a shitty day.

Well, one guy did wear a weightlifting glove to prevent calluses on his hand while he played games that had a track ball. That’s pretty cool.
Another guy was doing wrist curls while watching tapes of guys trying to set high scores.
