Glad to know I’m not the only one to have seen zoot suit outside of my family… Edward James Olmos at his best.
What is it about mexicans and spaghetti westerns? I’ve yet to meet a chicano that doesn’t love “The Man with no Name” trilogy.
I saw Glenn Gary Glenn Ross on broadway when I was in NY 2 weeks ago… I haven’t seen the movie, but IMO it’ll be damn near impossible to top Liev Schreiber.
As to my favorites (in no particular order)…
10.) The Return of the Jedi (the best one of them all, that last battle between luke and darth in the shadows, when the chorus rises, is just priceless)
9.)Heavy Metal
8.)Rush Hour
7.)Anything with Cantiflas (pure genius)
6.)The Leone/Eastwood Trilogy… no one will ever make as good westerns
5.)Lord of the Rings trilogy
4.)Matrix Trilogy (notice a patern?)
3.)Clockwork Orange
2.)Chinatown
1.)Birth of a Nation
Well no time to make a long list, so on top of loads of other good flicks, i’ve gotta second Memento, which someone mentioned a few posts up, and then another i haven’t seen posted is Gattica. I’ll always find myself stoppin on that one if i find it while flippin through the channels. Guess it’s just something about the hardcore dedication he had and his absolute refusal to be satisfied with the hand he was apparently genetically dealt. Seems like a pretty common theme seen around here in the T-Nation too, gotta love seein people who constantly push their own limits.
Hoosiers. Always makes me stop. And I own the damn movie, too.
That may be it for me. I’d have to stop and think about it.
Where Eagles Dare
Big Lebowski
Office Space
Mallrats
Tommy Boy
Dumb & Dumber
Stripes
Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back
Super Troopers
Hoosiers
Breaking Away
Necessary Roughness
Fight Club
Falling Down
Reservoir Dogs
Usual Suspects
Goodfellas
Young Guns
Any Rocky
Cobra
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
Glory
Boiler Room
Glen Gary Glen Ross
and even though it’s usually on WE…
Officer and a Gentleman
The Princess Bride - “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die”
I just love the lines in that movie, that and I watched it as a little brat so its stuck w/ me all these years.
The Chronicles Of Riddick
Fast & Furiouse 1,2
Ace Ventura 1
Suth Park - The Movie
Lord Of The Rings (all)
Home Alone 1,2
The HULK
Superman - All
Ali G In The Pearlament
vision quest
seabiscuit
the big lebowski
bull durham
Good pics all around…
The one movie that I will totally adjourn anything to watch if it comes on is 13 Warrior…
“This sword is too heavy!”
-“Grow Stronger!”
That movie kicks ass, and I’ve watched it more times than I can count.
Anybody mention “Once Were Warriors” Jake was badass.
There are some really good picks for top pics.
I just have to add my list.
BRAVEHEART “It’s my f*&#ing island”
DIE HARD “Welcome to the party pal”
PREDATOR “This stuff will make you a sexual tyranasorous…just like me”
any Schwarzenegger film (except Last Action Hero)
FIRST BLOOD “. . . they drew first blood . . . they drew first blood”
RESEVOIR DOGS “Why do I have to be Mr. Pink”
any Quentin Tarrantino film.
12 MONKEYS - anything Brad Pitt says in that movie is hilarious.
PUMPING IRON - when Louie’s dad says “good workout” and Louie rolls his eyes and walks away.
any John Hughes film.
any Clint Eastwood ‘spaghetti western’
There are only two movies that I have seen more times than I can remember and will probably never get tired of…
Pulp Fiction and Tombstone
Gotta be the teenage classics
Weird Science - “Bigger Tits!”
Any James Bond (that guy got ALL the chicks) with Sean Connery or Roger Moore, Timothy Hutton is a pussy (how could they let Bond get married anyways!). I don’t mind Pierce Brosnan but that aint classic.
Mad Max 1 or 2.
Any ninja movie with Sho Kosugi.
Rambo - First Blood (maybe the others)
Lots of flicks I love have already been mentioned…
…here is a few that haven’t (or I missed)
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
“Christ, Harley, if you were shooting for shit you wouldn’t even get a whiff!”
Blood of Heroes – Joan Chen and Rutger Hauhger(sp??) low budget but great “after the bomb” movie. Awesome scene where Chen drives her elbow into the back of a guy’s head and then bites his ear off, all in the name of sport. She kicks serious ass.
Fifth Element – This movie is sooo…over the top!!
Men of War – Another low budget flick. I love this movie cause Dolph Lundgren actually gets a decent script for a change. Great supporting cast.
Hellboy – Nuff said
Reign of Fire – Dragons destroying the planet…no contest!
Equilibrium – Another low budget gem. Basically Christian Bale in a Matrix rip off. Some great gun fights. Movie gets even better with directors commentary “OK, so we were running out of money, again, so this is what we did…”
Highlander (the original, not the sequels)-- The Kurgen is my favorite bad ass, right behind Darth Vader. “I took his head, and raped his woman before his blood was even cold!”
Near Dark – Total opposite to that Puffy-shirt-wearing-Tom Cruise vampire movie. Nothing but grungy southern vampires with guns.
Prince of Darkness – John Carpenter flick. Still scares the crap out of me.
And when I am in a Christmas mood nothing beats
A Christmas Story
“The Oldsmobile is froze up again! That god damn Olds would freeze in the middle of summer on the equator!”
That about it,
Cheers

Could have been better. That movie had more potential and it pisses me off that they didn’t push it further.

Agreed. Even though it was a huge Matrix rip off, Bale’s performace, along with Taye Diggs (sp?) made up for it. If it wasn’t for the acting from both of them, that movie would have sucked.

I can’t stand this one. I remember seeing it as a kid and liking it. I bought it on DVD because it was on sale and I obviously let a lot of shit slide back then.
I don’t know if its been mentioned yet but “The Patriot” is excellent. Makes me proud to be a future American.
Thanks to Prof’s endless Goonies endorsements, I talked my husband into renting it a few months ago. My movie picking privileges have now been temporarily suspended. I’m sorry, but the Goonies sucks.

You are wrong. I’ve finally gotten my kids into the Goonies. Classic movie.
Falling Down is a brilliant and hilarious movie. Anybody else here notice how it models The Odyssey?
