Movies You Might Enjoy

With so much predictable garbage in the theaters I’m going to list some hidden treasures.

Hey we know this is pretty subjective and that one person’s favorite might be another’s steaming pile. In anticipation of this, I’m only going to list movies that you can rent for a low price or even stream for free. This way, you can press ‘stop’ within 15-20 minutes if the show isn’t worth your time. Helluva lot better than dropping $15-20 bucks at the theater, right?

If anyone wants to give their personal recommendations, please do. Just remember, the movie has to be easily rented or streamed. And bootlegs of first-run movies still in theaters don’t count.

And pretty please no spoilers!!!

This week’s recommendation is Headhunters. Original title Hodejegerne.

Plot. A successful recruiter for corporations has a double life. He resorts to stealing expensive paintings to pay for his lavish lifestyle. Clearly, this is a man living above his means. As his luck begins running out, his world begins crumbling down on him.

As for ratings, I’d give it R so it’s not kid friendly. It’s from Norway so you’ll have to be fluent in the language or not mind the subtitles. I’m a little surprised the U.S. hasn’t ripped it off yet.

See this movie if you’re into smart thrillers.

IMBD rating: 7.6/10

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 92% on the Tomato Meter

MinotaurXXX rating: 4 minotaurs out of possible 5

Just a word about my rating system. The lowest possible score is zero. The highest possible score is five. To give an idea of my personal tastes, read below.

5 minotaurs: The highest level of cinematic achievement. Casablanca, The Last Emperor, Gone with the Wind, Apocalypse Now. An exclusive club indeed.

4 minotaurs: Excellent movie that really should be given consideration. Some examples are The Unforgiven, Big Wednesday, Manhattan, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Blade Runner the Final Cut, The Empire Strikes Back, A Streetcar Named Desire (the Brando version), The Magnificent Seven.

Many others but most cinemaphiles are aware of these so it should be a good reference point for what I deem worthy of 4 or more minotaurs.

3 minotaurs: A movie that misses the mark just enough to keep it from getting a higher score.

In this thread, I will only list movies I deem worthy of 4 minotaurs and above. Some of the movies might get a 4.25, 4.5, 4.75 minotaurs. For example, now that I think about it, I’d give The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 4.5.

(edited to explain my rating system)

Wrong Turn 4.

The perfect horror movie.

I give it 5 Yogis

Interesting and thanks for the input. Now how many possible Yogis would be your top score?

In my rating system, 5 minotaurs is the holy grail of cinematic achievement. I would give Casablanca such a rating. And I’ll only list what I think are 4 minotaurs and above for this thread.

rio bravo with cannibals haha. good shit.

For the Asian action film buffs, look into The Man from Nowhere. 2010 South Korean offering.

Plot. A loner who operates a pawn shop befriends a little girl, whose mother just happens to be a junkie that rips off one of the most brutal drug lords in town. Bad things happen and we quickly find out the loner is one tough motherfucker.

Language is Korean with subtitles. Great action flick with creative fight scenes!

IMDB rating: 7.9/10

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 90% audience members liked it

MinotaurXXX rating: 4 minotaurs out of possible 5

I saw this one! Thanks for the contribution.

Edited so people won’t confuse dt79’s “Brother” with my recommendation “The Man from Nowhere”

It’s literally perfect. Redneck cannibals taking over an asylum, interspersed with lesbian sex!

Oops i got it confused with Wrong Turn 5. Good shit still. Funny as hell.

Headhunters recommended in my first post. I’ve seen different image used by streaming services.

Well played, sir. Well played.

Pussies… Man up. Put this in and you’ll never be the same. There’s no rating system designed so screw your minotars and yogis .

Might be promising. I’ll have to add this to my watch list.

btw bro, this ain’t a competition about who can submit the most ultra violent movie. It’s a thread about recommending movies from different genres. So unless your first comment was in jest, play nice.

If anyone loves 80s action/buddy cop/sci-fi then I highly recommend the little forgotten treasure called The Hidden

Thank you!

I had to look this one up. Will definitely add to my list.

But never never watch the shitty direct to DVD sequel.
