Talented Mr. Ripley, The Departed, Goodwill Hunting, All the Pretty Horses???

The problem I have with Tom Cruise is he plays the same type of character in every film he’s in. You can play a game with it (ie, 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon). Example: Top Gun: cocky pilot. Cocktail: cocky bartender. All the right moves: cocky high school football player. So on and so forth.
Watch Collateral, The Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky.

I’ll second Spirited Away, and throw in Howl’s Moving Castle and everything else Hirohito Mashimoto or whoever that directer is has ever done with the possible exception of Ninja Scroll, but I don’t think he did Ninja Scroll, just Princess Mononoke, which I thought was actually pretty good. Just overrated.

Also, totally second Napoleon Dynamite. I watched it alone, in my dorm room, the year after it came out. Nothing was funny. I suppose you had to have been in an entire theater of retards (or Americans) to laugh at that. By myself, it wasn’t all that and its bag of chips.

March of the Penguins, also known as ‘Penguins walk, as Narrated by Morgan Freeman’. Cute and cuddly, sure, and there was some story there, but I think it would have made a better Discovery Channel Special than actual film. Now if it was Narrated by Vinnie Paz, I would pay good fucking money for that.

Game of Death. Seriously guys, a lot of the fights are shit. Kareem Abdul Jabar? Not only does that scene not look realistic, its not that cool to watch. And I fucking hate that yellow outfit and Kim Jong-Il glasses.

I’ll second, third, or fifteenth Donnie Darko as well. I imagine its sequel to be in the same vein.

His name is Hayao Miyuzaki and he didn’t do Nija Scroll newb, he is also considered the best anime creator of all time.

Brother, I was going to Hate on Tyler Perry and His movies by saying he could chug a pitcher of nut-sacks but on 2nd thought he might just enjoy that. His movies suck to the 3rd degree of suckdum, a 1975 50yr old prostitute fresh off the duece had no where near the amount of suction that a tyler perry moive has. But he is getting rich off of pissing off every woman in my life. who after they watch his crap I get the side eye for a week like I was just seen banging the Kim Kardashian and her sister.

^ LOL, Im gonna start using this “insists upon itself” in everything I think is overrated, i love it.

I really like Dicaprio, Catch Me If You Can is one of my faves,

Agreed…Shutter Island, insists upon itself.

I gotta give Peter Griffin credit on that one.
Yeah I know…I agree with the Tao of Griffin with regards to the God father lol.

Fight Club
War of the Worlds
Batman

Sure there are more, but can’t think of any at the moment.

I can’t stand 2 and 1/2 men, I can’t even find the jokes to be funny. And they show it here on TWO fucking channels (different series). Useless show. Thanks for bringing it up, I know how much I hate this show.

Yes, all of those movies suck.

Jarhead is great, because of the story, not because of him.

die hard

Dicaprio only makes good movies.

Tough crowd in here for the movies lol. Does your judgement change on a movie if every person loved it, or it was over-hyped?

Anyone see The Town? It was hyped up tons here…I think it lived up to it’s expectations.
I saw it and liked it. I tend to enjoy most movies though, apparently a lot more than some of the others here. I’ve seen and enjoyed just about every movie mentioned. Some of them multiple times.

The Town was a lot like Heat.

Every show on network TV sucks.

A&E, FX, and HBO have the monopoly on quality TV shows.

I agree with BOTH of your posts Steel Nation. Would ya look at that lol

Shawshank fucking redemption.

Consistently voted in the top 5 movies of all time in any list you care to look at. But what an implausible (story and characters), boring, wooden acted (except for the warden), stupid fairytale ending, crappy dialogue and above all - predictable film.

Pile of shite. How it got such status is truly beyond me. In most other ‘great’ films I can kind of see why they got there - even if I don’t agree - but this one, I just don’t get.

Apparently we need to make a thread called ‘What movies aren’t overrated’ for some of you guys. I’m guessing it would be an extremely short lived thread, with someone being like ‘Casablanca’ followed by ‘it insists upon itself.’(Even worse is that people referenced the Family Guy scene where they were COMPLETELY MAKING FUN OF MOVIE CRITICS THAT SAY SHIT LIKE THAT, while still using it as a criticism)
