Most Overrated Movies of All Time

Apparently we need to make a thread called ‘What movies aren’t overrated’ for some of you guys. I’m guessing it would be an extremely short lived thread, with someone being like ‘Casablanca’ followed by ‘it insists upon itself.’(Even worse is that people referenced the Family Guy scene where they were COMPLETELY MAKING FUN OF MOVIE CRITICS THAT SAY SHIT LIKE THAT, while still using it as a criticism)
I find this remark Shallow and pedantic…

I found this comment oaky with just a subtle hint of vanilla.

The point was it is a Family guy quote. I assumed red, who referenced family guy, would get it. =p

The problem I have with Tom Cruise is he plays the same type of character in every film he’s in. You can play a game with it (ie, 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon). Example: Top Gun: cocky pilot. Cocktail: cocky bartender. All the right moves: cocky high school football player. So on and so forth.
Watch Collateral, The Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky.
I have seen all 3. Thank you for proving my point. Collateral: Cocky Hit Man. The Last Samurai: Cocky Army Commander. Vanilla Sky: Cocky Playboy.

^Bullshit.
Collateral: to say this character is cocky is to ignore the fact that he was vastly different from anything else Cruise has played.
Last Samurai: now you’re just making shit up.
Vanilla Sky: too long, did not watch

couple more films:
War of the Worlds: Cocky?
MI movies: Same character as above

Cruise has range. You sir, speak out your ass

Yeah, about 5 and a half feet worth.

whoever said “the dark knight” should have their genitals removed. that’s right. a full hysterectomy, as only someone with a vagina could make such an assanine statement. That is THE BEST super hero movie OF ALL TIME. FACT.

Whoever said “inception” is dumb. not just plain dumb, we’re talking extra strength, industrial use only dumb. If you have a problem with inception, there can only be one of two things wrong with you. 1) you didn’t pay attention, so the whole movie went way over your head. or 2) you’re still bitter over the fact that the director didn’t give you any closure at the end. Everything about that movie was brilliant. The casting, the acting, the story, originality, and the soundtrack was among the best of the best.

Chris Nolan is, IMO the best director that there is right now. He directed both of the movies previously mentioned, as well as a few other stellar films. When Dark Knight came out on dvd, I watched it just about every other day when I got home from work, and it just kept getting better. Inception, on the other hand, as soon as I walked out of the theater, I would have bought another ticket and walked right back in, if it hadn’t been for Akuma waiting for me to get to the gym.

No other director has every made a movie I could watch twice in a month, even. Let alone multiple times a week.

I agree man I saw TDK in theaters four times, and Inception twice.

Shawshank fucking redemption.

Consistently voted in the top 5 movies of all time in any list you care to look at. But what an implausible (story and characters), boring, wooden acted (except for the warden), stupid fairytale ending, crappy dialogue and above all - predictable film.

Pile of shite. How it got such status is truly beyond me. In most other ‘great’ films I can kind of see why they got there - even if I don’t agree - but this one, I just don’t get.
It’s a story of prison life and friendship. While I don’t quite think of it as one of the best movies ever, it’s still pretty damn good. In the league of a Forrest Gump or Benjamin button imo all of which I really liked.

Ummm yeah I know, which is why I have referenced it. for you to point out what an episode of family guy is trying to do is really unecessary. I dont understand why I cant have a different opinion about movies that are universally celebrated. I found the Godfather to be overrated because it was touted before I saw it to be arguably the best made movie of all time. I saw it and didnt like it. I found it to be underwhelming and quite frankly boring. When you hear such amazing critiques about a movie and watch it and are dissapointed…overrated is what it becomes.

and quite frankly it just insists upon itself.

“What does that even mean?”

Ahh family guy references in everyday life…

but yea, i mean to each their own. I loved TDK, i loved inception, i loved Shawshank redemption, I loved forest gump, i enjoyed Saving private ryan (except for when that little dbag let the Hebrew Hammer die! GDI!), i enjoyed the Last Samurai. Good will hunting, O brother where art thou, remember the titans- All movies i dont feel belong in here, but Others felt they needed to put into this thread. EH.

“This is life. So go and have a ball. Because the world don’t move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you may not be right for some. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have…my opening statement. Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog.”

Bam, 2 in one response.

FAMILY TIES!

Nobody should ever mention that pile of crap Forrest Gump in the same breath as Shawshank Redemption.

Well I think I can see our problem right there: Forrest Gump (all Tom Hanks movies) would also be on my list of overrated films - I thought it was terrible. However like I said earlier, unlike SR I can actually see why people liked it. It was quite clever with the Elvis and JK scenes etc… feelgood, heavyhanded smash you in the face symbolism so stupid people could feel clever watching it. So although I didn’t like it (read: hated it) I can respect that lots of others did for a reason. Benjamion Button - couldn’t bring myself to watch it, I like FS Fitzgerald way too much.

WRT SR though - that is not a movie about prison life. That is Hollywood’s revision of some kind of alternate prison life full of disaffected nice guys who like hanging out with their chums and just need some kind of framed intellectual to teach them to read in order to sort out there antisocial disorders -zzzzz. Yeah yeah there was some sleezy guys in there too it had every prison cliche you would care to chuck in there as I said predictable!

-Those two recent Batman movies with Christian Bale.
-All the “evil germans” movies like Schindler’s List
-All the “evil, fishy italians, cubans etc.” movies like Godfather this or that or Scarface.
-Anything by Tarantino, including the “evil germans” stuff.
-Spike Lee movies
-Bruce Lee movies
-Jason Bourne

Animal House - This is on a lot of people’s all-time favorite comedy list. I just think it’s lame, as in I barely laughed the whole movie. It probably just didn’t age very well, as I’m sure people will say the same about Old School in 20 years.

I do appreciate the fact that there were some nice tits in it though.
