Most Overrated Movies of All Time

thank you

No country for old men, the movie was just worthless to me, yeah I’ma just stand there as you put some metal thing up to my forehead that’s attached to a tank. OKAY!

Hurt locker, I watched it before its release in the US and it was okay, definitely didn’t deserve the hype.

Avatar? I just don’t understand why it got the hype, it wasn’t hidden that it was just dances with wolves with a billion dollars of CGI. However since I never saw dances with wolves I liked it.

Kill bill, grindhouse, all that crap, just lame.

Avatar was at best an average film. The effects and CGI were detailed but the artwork and Pandora weren’t anything I hadn’t seen before.

I was disappointed with Hurt Locker.

Big Lebowski: meh, not great.

Raging Bull: I didn’t get it, felt like it was before my time.

Citizen Kane: Again, felt it was before my time. I came out thinking it was boring.

History of Voilence: piece of shit whenever Aragorn isn’t killing people.

Dirty Harry: The character was brilliant, but the movie was rubbish.

James Bond movies: I’ve watched Connery, Moore, Brosnan, and latest one, and of all those films I enjoyed 3.

Spirited Away: you have to be high or on Ambien to enjoy this bore.

Inception: I like it, it’s fun, entertaining, and makes you pay attention, but I didn’t think it was as brilliant as my friends made it out to be.

Milk: I hate this film.

Rock n Rolla: maybe it’s the whole Lock, Stock formula wearing out for me, but I thought it sucked.

The Graduate: yeah, guess I’m too young to appreciate it, it was made in the 60’s. Either way I thought it was shit.

Tao of Steve: not even sure if this is well regarded, but I expected a lot more after finding out about the Tao: be desireless, be awesome, be gone.

Trainspotting: Meh.

Highlander: piece of shit.

Repo Man: who the fuck came up with this shit.

Twelve Monkeys: nice concept, but the action and story don’t carry it.

I am getting so upset reading these, I need to stop.

No Country For Old Men, loved it.
Million Dollar Baby, loved it, bawled my eyes out.
Kill Bill, fucking loved it.
Training Day, fucking loved it.
Star Wars, can you really cut down a series that changed film making forever?
The Hangover, fucking loved it, but I also saw it pre-hype, like opening week.
There Will Be Blood, dry as hell, but I loved it.
The Wrestler, enjoyed it.

Avatar, absolutely overrated, while it was visually stunning, fuck that movie.
The Big Lebowski, a lot of my friends are crazy Lebowski cult members, I don’t get it.

I don’t think Leonardo DiCaprio is the as great of an actor as he is made out to be. He plays a certain type of role in a lot of fantastically written and directed movies and people love him for it. But Inception is one of my all time favorite movies, so I have to give him credit for starring in it.

For me its every Tom Hnaks and Tom Cruise movie. And nobody mentioned Twilight saga, how come?

I think everyone assumes that everyone else here hates the Twilight saga, thus it isn’t overrated it just sucks.

Much like the fact no one would ever say “Bend It Like Beckham is overrated” because that movie is irrelevant, meaning it is not rated, making it impossible for it to be overrated.

I’ll second Spirited Away, and throw in Howl’s Moving Castle and everything else Hirohito Mashimoto or whoever that directer is has ever done with the possible exception of Ninja Scroll, but I don’t think he did Ninja Scroll, just Princess Mononoke, which I thought was actually pretty good. Just overrated.

Also, totally second Napoleon Dynamite. I watched it alone, in my dorm room, the year after it came out. Nothing was funny. I suppose you had to have been in an entire theater of retards (or Americans) to laugh at that. By myself, it wasn’t all that and its bag of chips.

March of the Penguins, also known as ‘Penguins walk, as Narrated by Morgan Freeman’. Cute and cuddly, sure, and there was some story there, but I think it would have made a better Discovery Channel Special than actual film. Now if it was Narrated by Vinnie Paz, I would pay good fucking money for that.

Game of Death. Seriously guys, a lot of the fights are shit. Kareem Abdul Jabar? Not only does that scene not look realistic, its not that cool to watch. And I fucking hate that yellow outfit and Kim Jong-Il glasses.

I’ll second, third, or fifteenth Donnie Darko as well. I imagine its sequel to be in the same vein.

Space odyssey 2000
Heavy Metal
the sixth sense
day of the dead
radio
remember the titans
last of the mohicans
any john wayne movie, i mean the movies are decent but nothing special besides john wayne aint shit compared to clint eastwood.

What’s the matter with kids today? There, I said it.

Citizen Kane? Raging Bull? The Graduate? Jesus. You might as well throw in A Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver and the Deere Hunter while you are at it.

And Star Wars? The Original? Overrated?

Fuck me.

The Graduate Is As Dated as a movie can get. Just did not make it past its decade. Boring as all get out.

I think the problem with this thread is that a lot of you seem to be misinterpretting “overrated.” Just because a bunch of average, stupid tweeners say a film is good does mot mean it is hyped, i.e. any Michael Bay film or Twilight, as someone has already explained. Just about any movie Bay has ever done has gotten bad reviews. So point being, don’t assume a movie is a big deal because a bunch of stupid people say so.

Big Lebowski: mediocre.
Boondock Saints: equally mediocre.

Really? Certainly you don’t think The Departed was overrated?[/quote]

I don’t, great movie. I also loved Gangs of New York, even though I think Daniel Day Lewis made it.

However, it was shorter than typing out Romeo & Juliet, Titanic, Catch Me if You Can, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, Shutter Island and Inception. Yeah I said Inception. THAT movie insisted upon itself.

^ LOL, Im gonna start using this “insists upon itself” in everything I think is overrated, i love it.

I really like Dicaprio, Catch Me If You Can is one of my faves,

Agreed…Shutter Island, insists upon itself.

Dicaprio only makes good movies.

Tough crowd in here for the movies lol. Does your judgement change on a movie if every person loved it, or it was over-hyped?

Anyone see The Town? It was hyped up tons here…I think it lived up to it’s expectations.

^ it looks good to me, I wanna check it out, all the critics I have read have killed it…I try to not let them sway me however.

I gotta give Peter Griffin credit on that one.

You are fucking with me right? I could watch this movie 6,000 more times and still come to tears in a couple spots.

I don’t necessarily disagree with this. BUT the soundtrack is great.

The Dark Knight

G.I. Jane. Never seen it until last year, a lot of people told me it was “such a good moviee!”. WRONG BITCH

Feminist BS

The 2nd and 3rd godfather sucked, the first one was great IMHO
