To my knowledge, especially on this forum, the external may get quite a bit more contractions in. “Hold the fart in” exercises along with “flex the terd into the bowl” have more than likely become standards in the average bodybuilder’s training arsenal.

The lowly smooth muscled internal anal sphincter has had to deal with many centuries of neglect. I personally would have given up long ago.

Sounds like you might have an overactive anal sphincter.

Seriously, my best lifting buddy yet was in a frat. In fact, I’m still friends with almost every member who I knew when I was in school. I used to make the same jokes with him all the time, except he would laugh.

lol. I’m really not upset. I was just saying. I actually think a lot of the frat jokes on here are funny. Somtimes tone does not across right via the internet.

She’s definitely a beautiful woman.

Underrated would be Hands/Fingers, Obliques, and Anaerobic work.

Overrated would have to be chest, biceps, and abs

I think the most under rated are the forearms and calves. The most over rated muscle group is the chest. The chest and chest exercises (bench press) are way over rated in my sport, wrestling. Mind you, in wrestling nobody cares if u can bench a ton, bc if ur lying on ur back pushing up against someone… ur a loser.

I’d have to say chest is most overated. I know too many dumbasses who spends hours and hours in the gym trying to build a big chest but who don’t exercise any other muscle group whatsoever except for abs.

Underrated is more difficult. But plenty of people don’t do compound work the way they should. Ignorant people often exclusively stick with isolation. So, I’d say compound, multi-joint movements are way underrated by a large percentage of lifters.

the most overrated is abs. wonder why i didn’t say chest or bis? because the bench press and curl are very popular and very good for you. ab or “core” exercises are a pile of worthless for most.

Abs are not overrated. Maybe as a vanity muscle. But core strength is important and will help you will plenty of other lifts you do.[/quote]

sure, but hip flexion and trunk flexion exercises wont make your core strong enough to do really hard lifts.

You’re right about that. People waste time on exercises like that when they would better be served doing something else. But weighted crunches, hanging pikes, etc… can truly add to any lifting program.

The heart.

WOW didnt quite expect so many respones, thanks for that.

Seems to me that back ,forearms and posterior chain is winning in the most underated catagory.

As i thought Arms(bi,tri) and chest seem to be winning the overated bodyparts.

Funny how u people say heart muscle as well, reminds me evertime i talk to my mom she says" i dont know why u lift really heavy weights, its so bad for your heart,u will have a heart attack one of these days" :frowning:
Then again my mom thinks anything over 25 pounds is heavy.

Peace

I’ll break it up into two categories: aesthetic and functional.

IMO, for function, the chest is most over-rated. How often do you need to use your chest muscles in the real world? Not very often at all. Hand strength is most under-rated. Most people have incredibly weak hands, even if the rest of their body is strong. Notice I didn’t say forearms, because you can work your forearms all day and still have weak hands. Forearm curls and extensions do nothing.

For looks, biceps are over-rated. People train their biceps WAY too much, and they may end up with big biceps, but their arm isn’t very big because they have pathetic triceps. Shoulders are the under-rated part. I haven’t seen anyone in my gym do anything worthwhile for shoulders. Most do extensions, and the ones that do any pressing use such a low weight it has no effect. And I don’t know of a girl who doesn’t love big broad shoulders on a guy.

i’ll still consider zercher squats the ultimate ab strengthener. also, i can crunch a lot of weight. a lot more than when i started lifting, and ive never done them in any program. looks like their role as a spine stabilizer has paid off for me.
