You mean…Pel?? I would highly doubt that many people outside the US know or care who Tiger Woods is.

Errr I think the $3 million dollar appearance fees Tiger gets in England, Spain, Thailand, India and Japan kinda show, ya know, he’s known outside the US.

Name any baseball, basketball, hockey or football player that will get that much money for 4 days of work…

are you serious??? Thats funny. Hell I know of a person in New Zealand who knows nothing about sports and they know who he is.

man…i’m surprised this thread isn’t respecting the hardball. no one would feel a bit flustered looking at roger clemens on the mound 60 ft away ? nolan ryan ? 6’10" randy johnson on a mound about to throw 95 under your chin ?
Good point Swivel. I played a couple of seasons of amateur baseball in Mexico and faced a handful of 40+ year olds that knew just how to make you hesitate about crowding the plate

To add to this. I heard that Tiger will be building his first course outside of the US and I doubt he would do that if he is unknown worldwide.

Yeah, the $50 million he will probably get for it is truly a sign of not being known outside the US.

Some people are clueless…

Tyson in his prime.

I’ve actually stood next to him and hes smaller than i thought, smaller than me.

Which makes his accomplishments that much more remarkable. When he won the heavyweight crown from Michael spinks. Spinks sys it was a hook to the ribs that did it. He said he remembers laying on the canvas thinking “damn i got shot”

The other story that amazes me is the Tyson vs Biggs fight. Tyrell biggs is 6’5 and weighed 228 3/4 that fight.

After the fight tyson said. He thought is was funny, every time he hit biggs in the body he would “squeal like a girl”.
I later heard the referee interviewed and he confirmed this story.

Tyson in his prime was a bad man. Yet his two worst losses were.

Tyson vs Finances.
and
Tyson vs English language.

Tyson was damn good in his prime, but c’mon, Michael Spinks and Tyrell Biggs? They weren’t exactly A-list names in the annals of Hwt boxing. I wish Tyson had been around in the 70s with the likes of Ali, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, Shavers. Tyson would not have skated through the ranks the way he was able to in the late 80s.

Tyson’s record was not so good when he went beyond 4 rounds. I guarantee, he would not have been able to take out most of those guys in 4 rounds.

Therefore, Tyson is not my most intimidating athlete. Ray Nitschke was.

As for Tiger’s intimidation…

I’ve seen him play, here at Torrey Pines, been up close to him on the practice green, watched him talk with Stevie and all that stuff.

When he walked by, everyone shut thier mouths and stood up straight. It was incredible to see.

Of course there were a couple kids who said stuff like “go get 'em Tiger” and the like, but all in all the dude intimidated the fucking FANS. Below is an example of why he is who he is, and why he carries that level of intimidation…

Oh, Wow

Awww Cmon mate :frowning:

Willie mason is the biggest cat to play football. After he punched that pommy player he went and hid on the wing for the rest of the game.

Didnt take any hit ups because he knew he would get smashed.
When he takes the ball up normally he runs at all the small players, not like a Petro or Shane webke who have a sack and run at the other fowards.

the most overated player ever.To have him captain Australia one day will be a big mistake if they let it happen.

That dude is just cold

If by “cold” you mean “pussy”…

Being intimidating does not just mean u could beat someone up.

Most golfers who enter a major pretty much accept they are playing for 2nd place.Tiger just has a aura about him.

Calling him a pussy is just plain stupid. He is one of the greastest athletes in the world.
Saying tiger is not known world wide made me laugh.People in the nfl and baseball players are not really known world wide.
But ask anyone from your grandma to your little brother and all those people will know of Tiger Woods no matter what country u come from.

Peace

yeah tyson was more bark than bite. he was intimidating but not at a championship level. douglas showed that. and holyfield…damn holyfield just manhandled him. i don’t know what you guys consider “in his prime” to be, but he was only like 30 when that happened. that’s pretty prime time.

What the hell does that have to do with golf being a sport or not?

this is a great point. being intimidating doesn’t just mean you’re awesome @ what you do. it means your aura is able to fuck with the guy before your actions actually do. you’re throwing him off his game before actual play.

i nominate doyle brunson.

Imagine the most pissed off, raging, skilled, fast boxer you can think of. Now make him a 9 year old kid between 1/3 and 1/2 your weight. Think you could beat him? Sure he could outbox you, but I bet you could just cover up, ride him to the ground and squash the little fucker.
Sorry but that’s a horrible analogy. If that was true then why isn’t boxing dominated by 7’ beasts like Andre? And why didn’t he go into boxing instead of wrestling and make 10x as much money in one fight as he did in his entire career?

As for the topic of the thread I’d have to vote for Tyson of a few years ago as well. In the time after he lost his mind and before he became a shitty boxer. It takes some balls to go in with someone who’s nuttier than squirrel shit and can knock your ass out in one punch.

i don’t understand …why would you say tyson when he’s clearly shown himself to be a loser? he couldn’t win when he should have, douglas, and then holyfield stepped up in weight and completely schooled him. tyson was tested and he didn’t pass.

I always found Charles Barkley pretty intimidating when he was playing for the Suns…

Finding out he’s thrown people out of windows and then responded “I regret we weren’t on a higher floor.” only compounds my suspicions that he takes no BS.

Years ago we hardly had anything to eat. Now I earn more money and see every opponent as a man that tries to put me back to that poorer period.

That man has to be eliminated.
