Was suprised it took so long for someone to vbring up Lance Armstrong. If we are looking at cmpetitors who r intimidating in their chosen field i would havta say Kelly Slater is pretty damn intimidating to his competitors. Always playing mindgames and psyching ppl out. 8 world titles pretty much speaks for itself!!!
Michael Peterson was apparently the most competitive animal ever to surf a heat back in the day.

I am wondering how much you would rather play golf with Tiger if you two were betting for ownership of your house, your car, and your bank account.
Most everyone would be worried about their belongings if they had to face a professional athlete in their sport and bet all of their belongings. So the only way to make Tiger Woods intimidating is to somehow force a person into a golf competition with him and then require that the stakes be their respective personal fortunes? And this is a cadidate for the most intimidating athlete? Why dont we suggest the same scenerio with Tyson. Its you vs. Tyson and if you lose the boxing match Tyson wins all your belongings? See we dont need that last part to make Tyson intimidating. Because the sport itself forces you to confront the other athlete. And in this case the Athlete is a rather terrifying boxer. Are you really going to be intimidated by Woods in the game? Is he going to talk smack? Are you going to confront him out on the green? No, of course not, there is no aspect of the game of golf where the players confront one another.
So your concern and worry is not about the other player, who cannot influence your game, but instead about your relative skill levels.
Why would it ever be wrong to make fun of golf on T-Nation? Are there alot of baby boomers on here or something?
Yes, Only baby boomers like and appreciate golf. Way to go tough guy!

I am SO sick of hearing about BJJ supermen that can somehow take down even the best heavyweight boxers in the world in their prime. It doesn’t get dumber than that.
We all know people like to have pride in what they do, but the ridiculous diarrhea-like bullshit flowing the mouths of some of these guys has taken it too far. One straight on hit from someone with the strength and force of Tyson is pretty much going to end it for most humans on the planet, regardless of how many BJJ classes you’ve been to at the “Y”.
So true. I cant stand all these BJJ guys that think they are fighting machines. Just because your a star in the dojo doesnt make you a tough guy.
I had to get over this when I first started martial arts. I learnt the hard way.
Tyson is the most intimidating person I have ever seen. Nuff said.

You obviously know nothing about competitive golf. You’re 15 posts into your T-Nation career. Congratulations on making yourself one of the fastest dumbasses in the history of T-Nation!

It’s been proven throughout the decades that Gracie Jiu Jitsu is not like other martial arts, and is, in and of itself, capable of winning street fights (or beach fights). While it is better to hybridize one’s fighting with other striking and grappling arts, it is not necessary if one truly understands the principles of Jiu Jitsu.

Very true, most street fights go to the ground, and knowing BJJ would help a lot.

Listen, go spit your bullshit somewhere else. We all know that BJJ is a great martial art. But it was not a unique creation in and of itself. It simply borrowed bits and pieces from other forms of martial arts and put them into a rebadged system. There were guys triangle choking each other out in catch wrestling before Helio was even born.
And the last bit of “not necessary to learn other martial arts” is the biggest load of shit I have ever read. All the Gracies have went ahead and proved that as of late. Maybe you should read about a guy named Sakuraba. Most intelligent people dropped the “BJJ is the alpha and omega” line after he tooled half the family, at least the ones with the balls to step up.

I hear this line repeated over and over, and yet every single fight I’ve ever been in or witnessed looked like a group of guys wildly swinging at each other, and ones who get hit hard run or go down and the fight is over. I’ve never seen anyone bust out an omoplata with some guy on a dirty bar floor with 10 of his friends around who are kicking the shit out of him.
I’m not saying that BJJ isn’t important, but saying that learning how to hit some guy in the face is more applicable in 90% of physical altercations.
Just to resurrect this hilarious argument, last time I checked Tiger wasn’t arguably insane, has never threatened to “eat yo children” and hasn’t BITTEN ANYONE in the middle of a match.

PGA - dont take this personally but you cannot in a MILLION years describe tiger woods as intimidating. He is WORLD CLASS and when on top form awesome, but this isnt intimidating.
Intimidation and what we find intimidating varies from person to person but losing at golf is not even close.
My votes go with a young tyson, fedor and Jonah lomu at his peak
Intimidation doesnt only mean fear of being hurt by them. Just look at Tiger’s record and see what other players do when he’s in first. They crumble. Tiger outlifts most of the people on this site also.
If we’re talking about intimidating T-Men, I can understand but if you’re a T-Man nobody should be intimidating you anyway…
Think about it this way. I believe golf is a sport, and Tiger is… an athlete.
But he’s not intimidating to me. Does he intimidate other golfers? I’m sure he does. They probably know they can’t win and are playing for second place. Tiger is the most dominant athlete ever.
But intimidating?
I agree with the people on here that say Fedor. Definitely Fedor. Mirko “CroCop” Filipovich is another good one.
See, if I lose to Tiger in golf, big F’ing deal. No one cares.
But fighting Fedor or Crocop? Now that would make me timid.

Fedor isn’t intimidating to me. Why would he be? If you get to discuss Tiger OUTSIDE of playing against him during his sport as if you have something to lose…then I get to discuss the people you just mentioned in terms of simply walking past them on the street.

Wow I couldnt agree more. I worked at a golf course for a year. You just dont have to be an athelete to play. I mean we had a handicap cart for people who could not walk, one guy who used it shot a fucking 80. What sport can you be competitive and handicap?
Golf is not a sport its an activity, like arts and crafts or playstation.
This “activity” has produced most well known athlete on the planet. Ruminate on that one for a while…
You’re telling me that Tiger Woods is more well known than Michael Jordan?
Just out of curiosity, how old are you?
I think the people who have seen my photos can answer that question for you…
BTW I’m talking about the present! ;)
Well the reason I asked is because I am old enough to be growing up when Jordan was in his prime. He’s died off some now that he’s retired, but honestly, I think in his heyday, and even now, he’s got to be at LEAST as well known as Tiger Woods.
Just wondering if you were younger than me and didn’t really get the full Michael Jordan effect.

Why would he be? Because if he so decided, he’d pound the living crap out of you. Of course he wouldn’t, because he’s a nice guy outside the ring, but if I met Tiger Woods in a dark alley, and a golf game broke out…
If you got into an argument with Fedor, and with Tiger… and it really got heated, with whom would you be more intimidated?
When I hear intimidation, I just think physical violence. I guess losing in golf just doesn’t scare me that much.

But this thread isn’t about that kind of intimidation. It’s about competitive intimidation. It’s about an athlete getting into an opponent’s head so much that he knows he has little chance of beating that athlete. Or, in some cases, he actually fears competing against that athlete.
