good points…however, you are way off base on one major thing…the game you know as “football” was actually created out of rugby, and rugby did originate in europe (britain). So if it wasn’t for rugby, we wouldn’t have the chance to see a bunch of roidal athletes make millions of dollars. Where do you think the word “touchdown” originated from? (just in case you didn’t know, rugby players must touch the ball down in the endzone for the score to count). Rugby has been around much, much longer than football…did you know that the CFL’s Grey Cup was once competed for by rugby teams? Probably not. However, I will give you credit for your unusual “punch or bump” analogy…just busting your chops, bro :P.
Hockey…
While football and rugby and both tough sports neither compares to nhb. Two extremely well conditioned atheletes going toe to toe with very few rules for 15 - 30 minutes. In Brazil they have hardcore vale tudo (i.e. IVC) with no padding and virtually everything legal (for a while they included nut shots - ouch). If I had to choose a sport outside of nhb it would probably be hockey or amateur wrestling. For those who say war you must have never been in one to call it a sport.

Golf,only if u can beat the crap outta your opponent with the golf club…I think one of the Sultan’s in my country hit his caddy or something with his club because he was angry…
Waterpolo - a game for complete psychotics, and the women are worse than the men…where else can you get booted in the groin, clawed all over the rest of your body and have a ball hurled directly at your face at of 70kph???

(played it this weekend for the first time in ages… AWESOME position!) i think i gave their fly half a heart attack!!!

I play full contact football every weekend, no pads. Hey it’s a bunch of friends. Some would say it’s stupid, I say use your muscle and explosiveness for something. The hits without pads are no where near as violent as they are with pads on. It’s not so much the actual pad helping, but you’re alot more fearless throwing yourself into someone else at full speed.
Oh and Michelle, when Rugby players start making millions of millions of dollars, all the current players will lose their jobs to former NFL LB’s and FB’s who are 255 pounds, 6’4 and run a 4.3, or 4.4 40. 
Michelle, I don’t know Rugby from Lawn Hockey, but I’d be proud to flank your position anyday. Or was that position your flank? Either way, I know I don’t much care for football. So rugby’s gotta be better.

ahhh…hockey. nothing beats armadillos with sticks and a flying rock. grin they have some great fights too!!! hockey is WAY WAY WAY up there on the list of aggressive sports, but you need way to much equiptment for it unfortunately… (and i can only turn in one direction so i have never learned to play!)
The whole world, bar America, watches European sports. You can say that soccer never made it in the US, but this is for the same reasons that neither baseball or football has made it anywhere else, except for Cuba and Japan. American society is too insular in regards to sport, how can they call a tournament the ‘World series’ when it only includes teams from the USA?
